The TenHornedBeast rises again. Five new compositions from
black ambient / doom overlord Christopher Walton - three remixes
/ expansions / contractions of songs from the debut album
"The Sacred Truth" and two totally new pieces that
are in a similar style to this dark masterpiece. Walton has
stripped some of the songs to their bare bones and allowed
them space to breathe again. This album is all-new but continues
the atmosphere of the debut and can be considered a companion
piece. Presented in a matt-laminate, spot-varnished digipak.

Reissue of the stunning debut BHN album from spring 2008 (Ltd
x 200). Working with a constantly evolving autumnal orchestra
of layered cellos, repeating piano melodies, hushed vocals
and mutant textures of sound and noise, Bleeding Heart Narrative
has constructed a unique, haunting and compelling album. BHN
is the work of sole composer, artist and producer Oliver Barrett,
working in the live spectrum as a septet. Presented in a digipak
with the new and exclusive bonus track 'Blueskywards'. We
can't recommend this highly enough!

Blurring the lines between Dark Ambient, Industrial and Noise,
Sistrenatus storms forth, shifting between oppressive aggression
and unsettling atmospheres. "Sensitive Disturbance"
is the third offering from this now legendary Canadian act,
whose debut "Division One" was issued on Cold Spring
in 2007. An aural journey through the urban decay of abandoned
factories, scorched landscapes and underground passageways.
"Sensitive Disturbance" is an abrasive rendition
of the industrial revolution in its darkest phases.

ATRIUM
CARCERI - 'Souyuan' CD (Cold
Meat Industry) - £11 / £12 / £13 |
 |
After
careful psychological observeration of test listeners,
Simon Heath has done it again - renewing the genre
through careful planning and painstaking attention
to each fragment and detail, however minute. With
fresh atmospheres, and a depth previously unfathomable,
"Souyuan" will amaze initiates and pundits
alike with its complexity and pureness of form. Never
before has the artists innermost recesses been so
sublimely conveyed to any medium. "Heath creates
a world where time collapses, where the ancient world
of conjured spirits, the physical limitations of being
all too human, and the infinite outreach of potential
futuretech, all coexist".

CORRUPTED
- 'Paso Inferior' CD (Nostalgia
Blackrain) - £11 / £12 / £13 |
 |
"Japanese
underground icons Corrupted create droning, sludgy,
painfully slow death / doom metal and ambient music
along the same lines as bands like Earth, Boris, and
Sunn O))). Formed in Osaka, Japan, circa 1994, the
reclusive group has issued an inordinate number of
singles, EPs, split discs, and full-length albums
over the years, but always under their own idiosyncratic
terms. These include holding anything remotely resembling
rock stardom in utter contempt, mysteriously writing
all of their lyrics in Spanish, and refusing to even
take promo shots, so that the only known images of
the group are those snapped by fans at their concerts"
(All Music Guide). Originally released in 1997 on
CD by Frigidity Discos, this 1-track, 40 minute CD
has now been remastered. Ultra heavy, ultra recommended!

 |
Another
in the “Cleanse The Hand That Feeds You”
Leprosy Discs series, this exercise in exorcism is
a sonically double edged ritual. Whilst the original
2001 release saw the return of the classic Death In
June instrumentation of acoustic guitars and trumpet,
with the addition of guest vocals from Boyd
Rice (NON) and accordion by Andreas Ritter (Forseti),
industrial elements also permeate half the album.
Out of print for several years, the reissued CD comes

FAUST
- 'Patchwork 1971-2002' CD (Staubgold)
- £11 / £12 / £13 |
 |
"Faust
will forever be heralded as a pioneer in the electronic/rock
avant garde, emerging in the early seventies branching
off from Brit/American commercial rock bands, employing
the use of alterior sonic landscapes to create a new
musical tangent" (Alternative Press). For this
release Markus Detmer (Staubgold) and Hans Joachim
Irmler (Faust) compiled unreleased Faust recordings
from 1971 to 2002, covering the legendary Wumme Years
(1971 - 1973) and the time at Virgin's Manor studios
(1974- 1975) as well as their new start in the early
80s and recent years. "Patchwork" unfolds
the core qualities of Faust and gives a deep impression
of their working method. Appearing: Werner Diermaier,
Hans Joachim Irmler, Jean-Hervé Peron, Rudolf
Sosna, Gunther Wüsthoff, Arnulf Meiffert, Steven
Wray Lobdell, Lars Paukstat and Michael Stoll. Digipak.

 |
Killer!!!
Gallhammer is three extreme Japanese females (headed
by Vivian Slaughter), heavily influenced by Hellhammer,
Burzum and Amebix. And, as is often the case with
Japanese acts, this is obscure and unusual metal,
somewhere between black metal, doom and sludge. This
debut 8 track album was a dedication to their influences
but also created a new, unique and dark sickly sounding
atmosphere of their own. The album's themes are based
around isolation, oppression, and a world without
colour. The band signed to Peaceville for subsequent
recordings. **Watch out for the forthcoming Sehnsucht
(Vivian Slaughter / Maniac) album on Cold Spring!**

A
single, hour-long work. Recorded on January 18, 2001
in Udine, the Red Room Sound-source: Rattle-harp (drift
metal, string, wire, bells, bone, wood). Treated &
composed on February 9-12, 2002 in Udine, the Black
Room. "This hour long work is a trademark piece
for Toniutti. The acoustics of the piece, the dragging
of metallic sounds, the analogue treatment of the
material, the minimal changing of the equalization
to make the piece sound different, it all sounds like
comfortable Toniutti music" (Vital Weekly). The
very occasional faint crackles are digital faults
from the original recording; as part of the document,
they have not been erased. Gatefold digifile with
16-page booklet.

Berlin
artist [-Hyph-] (aka Nicolas Wiese) composes his electro-acoustic
music using instruments played by others. There is
xylophone, double bass, alto saxophone, bass clarinet
as well as field recordings from Canada, police helicopter
and human voices. There is always something happening
here. No second silence seems to be permitted. Wiese
uses the computer to treat his sounds beyond belief,
or rather: beyond recognition. Very vibrant music,
very free in approach and result. Composed from the
original ideas of musique concrete, but with a strong
touch of his own. Perhaps not entirely new (either),
but it's all done with great care and style. Comparable
to Brume. Ltd x 300 copies in a digipak.

INVERCAULD
- 'Deamhan' CD (Clinical
Records) - £10.50 / £11.50 / £12.50 |
 |
Invercauld
has resurfaced from the murky depths of the abyss
after years of virtual silence since his debut "Tiamhaidh"
(2004, Cyclic Law). D. Finley offers up a powerful
opus of masterfully crafted dark ambience with a continuation
of deep, droning explorations inspired by his ancient
Scottish ancestry. With songs titled in the primitive
Gaelic dialect, accompanied by English definitions,
this latest work is a logical progression of this
slowly evolving behemoth of drone. 14 meticulously
layered tracks, with soul jarring drones that heave
and dirge, erupting into noise laden saturations.
Where “Tiamhaidh” harnessed more of an
Earth bound and overall organic feel, “Deamhan”
seems to transcend time and space. Taking the listener
on a fascinating journey through infinite realms of
dark matter and aural sorcery. For true connoisseurs
of Dark Ambience!

JAZZKAMMER
- 'Sound Of Music' 3" CD (OHM
Records) - £6 / £7
/ £8 |
 |
"The
title of this Jazzkammer (Lasse Marhaug / John Hegre)
release is a very nice reference to their tactics:
they create sound out of music. With the help of electronic
equipment and a guitar, they blast their way through
definitions of the term that shocks so many. This
little disc leaves no questions about Jazzkammer's
intentions: they want noise and they'll make it happen.
In twenty minutes time they offer the whole spectrum
of the genre as we know it: fierce rumbles, glithches,
hisses and piercing tones. And not to forget: some
looped melodic elements, heavily distorted and, more
often than not, buried under an avalanche of other
noise... Way to go!" (Vital). Comes in a
little gatefold digifile.

KEITH
ROWE & OREN
AMBARCHI - 'Flypaper' CD (Staubgold)
- £11 / £12 / £13 |
 |
These
recordings depart wildly from anything that either
Rowe or Ambarchi have produced before. This speaks
volumes when you consider the combined weight of their
explorations to this point. Amazingly, neither player
falls back on past gestures or comfortable proven
techniques. The result is four startling electro-acoustic
environments. Only David Tudor's "Rainforest"
has gone so far to create a world that is at once
highly electronic, yet totally organic, without resorting
to base mimicry of natural sounds. It evokes the sea,
an immovable mass of fluidity, in a way that Roland
Kayn would admire. But having said that, there is
little to compare this to. The four pieces on this
disc could be field recordings from lost civilizations.
Comes in digipak with artwork by Keith Rowe.

Malachi surrounds with two uncompromising orchestral
compositions that are both stunning in their appeal.
The Bastard Noise line up is joined by a debut of
l. Rauf and it delivers two altogether delicate compositions
that seem an attempt at describing nature on a universal
scale with the vast distances between objects only
traversed by light itself; a glittering of long-since
moribund stars from eons before it was seen by man.
Both units strive for the epic in their own manner.

SETH
NEHIL / JGRZINICH
- 'Stria' CD (Erewhon)
- £10 / £11 / £12 |
 |
Seth
Nehil and John Grzinich have been sound collaborators
since 1994. The exploratory focus here is the idea
of resonance; the phenomenon of natural vibrations
that give rise to intensified or stable structures
within sound bodies and fields. The composers approached
resonance in both the acoustic sound behaviour and
the social phenomenon in group interaction and/or
participation within the context of sound generating
activities. It was again applied to the studio in
the use of massive multiplications and layerings,
resulting in deeply transforming, evolutionary sound
fields. These pieces invite the listener to find his
way through the reticulated and stratified development
of a subtly unfolding, organic sound-body. Presented
in a gatefold digifile.

LEGENDARY PINK DOTS - 'Alchemical Playschool'
CD (Caciocavallo)
- £11 / £12 / £13 |
 |
“Alchemical
Playschool” is one of the most unusual Legendary
Pink Dots albums ever released. Based on the Soleilmoon
double CD “Indian Soundscapes”, these
recordings are best enjoyed with a cold glass of Bhang
Ki Thandai. This a trippy, psychedelic album, in the
tradition of the Dots’ “Chemical Playschool”
albums, but it’s been dusted with magical powders
from The Orient, making it an altogether different
experience from its predecessors. As experimental
and esoteric works go, this is the band’s definitive
work. First
released in 2006 CD in a hand-carved soapstone box,
and again in 2007 as a double 10" record in a

their debut album "Gnoia", Finnish band
Umbra Nihil present "The Borderland Rituals:
- 5 long obscure, frosty compositions of hypnotic
doom metal. The album was inspired by the brooding
horror novel The House on the Borderland. In order
to achieve a suitable claustrophobic sound and eerie,
forbidding atmosphere the album was recorded in an
isolated and quarantined abandoned house, sullenly
crafting the band's sound into a more organic and
gelatinous direction. As the troupe's sound went through
changes amidst the locale of rural decay, so did the
initial Hodgsonian concept of the album - turning
from a mere literary reference in lyrics into a much
more personal account of borderland existence.

VARIOUS
ARTISTS - 'Nor Noise - 12 Portraits About
Noise Music' DVD & CD (OHM
Records)
- £18 / £19.50 / £21 |
 |
"Nor
Noise" is a documentary about Noise music - perhaps
the most exiting and innovative form of music to evolve
in the last few years. Since 2001, film maker Tom
Hovinbøle interviewed some of the most central
artists, both Norwegian and international. The artists
speak about their relationship to NOise music: What
is it? Where does it come from? How do you work with
pure sounds? Noise is also put into an historical
context spanning from the Futurists and Luigi Russolo
before the First World War, through the first experiments
with electronical music in the 1950s, avant-garde
in the 60s, the Industrial and Punk movements in the
70s, before Noise establishes itself as a music in
its own right in Japan during the 70s. The film also
contains a lot of rare concert footage with the artists:
Tore H. Bøe (Origami Republika), David Cotner,
Masami Akita (Merzbow), Lasse Marhaug (Jazzkammer),
Tashimaru Nakamura, Arm, Asbjørn Flø,
Maja S.K. Ratkje (Spunk og Fe-mail), Kjell Runar Jenssen
(DEL), Francisco Lopéz, Helge Sten (Deathprod)
and Otomo Yoshihide. PAL DVD, Region 0.

GOLGATHA
and DAWN
& DUSK ENTWINED - 'Sang Graal' CD
(Cold
Meat Industry)
- £11 £12 / £13
’Sang Graal’ is an opus magnum, built
in symbiotic collaboration during the last two years
by the French masters of martial neo-classic Dawn
and Dusk Entwined and the German Ritual-folk-band
Golgatha. Both bands worked on all tracks together,
combining their styles and forces to create a powerful
neo-classical-folk-opera with occasional glimpses
of soundtrack pathos and dark ambience. Martial tunes
like ’The Messiah’ or ’Cross of
Lorraine’ and majestic folk hymns like ’Crusade’
and ’A Seeker Divine’ will rule the darkest
dance floors worldwide, while introspective ballads
invite those interested in a deep listening experience.
The title refers to the myth of the Saint Graal, the
’holy grail’, and the ’sang réal’,
the bloodline of Jesus Christ. ’Sang Graal’
is true aural mythology! Digipak. |

JAZZKAMMER
- 'New Water' 3" CD (OHM
Records) - £6 / £7
/ £8
Jazzkammer's Lasse Marhaug and John Hegre, captured
live in Singapore in 2003, during the height of
the SARS epidemic. "This CD sees them playing
with noise and feedback, despite the use of some
water sounds and short outbursts of rhythmical elements.
For the bigger part it's still Merzbow influenced
noise music" (Vital). 20 minutes of beautiful
broken sounds and horrendous feedback! Comes in
a beautiful little gatefold digifile.

JOHN
HEGRE / LASSE
MARHAUG / HELGE
STEN - 'The Comfort Of Objects' CD
(OHM
Records) - £9 / £10
/ £11
A one-shot collaboration CD recorded over two years,
where the three artists (John Hegre of Origami Replika
and Jazzkammer, John Hegre of Der Brief and Jazzkammer
and Helge Sten of Deathprod) reworked the same source
material, not knowing what the others would do with
it - resulting in three very different solutions.
From the intense and loud to the subtle and beautiful,
"The comfort of objects" is Norwegian
electronic music at its best.

LUSTMORD
- 'The Place Where The Black Stars Hang' CD (Soleilmoon)
- £11 £12 / £13
"The Place Where the Black Stars Hang”
was first released in 1994 on Side Effects, and while
the earlier Lustmord album "Heresy" gave
birth to the "Dark Ambient" genre, it is
“The Place Where the Black Stars Hang”
that defines it. It’s a work regularly cited
by critics, audiences and musicians as being amongst
the very best and most influential albums of its decade.
This new edition has been re-mastered and given new
artwork. The differences are subtle yet powerful,
giving the album a more nuanced feeling of space and
detail than ever before. Oft imitated, but never equalled,
Lustmord: The Power of Sound. |

MERZBOW
- 'Collapse 12 Floors' CD (OHM
Records) - £11 / £12 / £13
One of the earlier lap top style releases from Merzbow,
more gentle than many of his releases. "Collapse
12 Floors" is a blistering, hypnotic float
down a river of scrap metal. Three long tracks recorded
in early 1999 of digital computer sound manipulation,
with more emphasis on ambient and mysterious sounds
then harsh noise.

MERZBOW
- 'Mini Cycle / Yoshino Tamago / Yonos Bigfoot'
3" CD (OHM
Records)
- £6 / £7 / £8
"The basis of this work was recorded in a radiostation
in Oslo and later reworked in Merzbow's bedroom
studio. I must admit I don't know where Masami's
love for chickens comes from, but a whole chicken
chorus is present on this work. They are their in
the form loops, and on top Merzbow improves with
computers. A dense, cloudy swirl of sound is what
the result... Despite the work done later on in
the studio, the 'live' element is still present
here" (Vital). Comes in a
little gatefold digifile.

MERZBOW
- 'Puroland' CD (OHM
Records) - £11.50 / £12.50 / £13.50
This disc from the Japanese master builds after
many minutes into noise, but this is structured,
rhythmic, surging blasts of localised power. Reminds
of old Skullflower, Holland Skin Tunnel, a loud
Nurse With Wound. This is because it feels so instrumental,
almost as if a guitar or two are involved in this.
From there we return to Akita's early style where
the walls of noise were not so loud and thick. There
are very obvious variations and mechanical changes
within the piece, creating patterns and moodst.
Digipak.

ORDO
ROSARIUS EQUILIBRIO - 'Apocalips' CD
(Cold
Meat Industry) - £11 / £12 / £13
Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio continue their march amongst
seeming polarities - of creation and destruction,
of dark and light, of joy and sorrow, of sex and
war - toward the Coniunctio Oppositorum, the conjunction
of opposites. Their seventh full-length album, true
to the ethos of The Order of Roses and Balance,
is an opus of decadent beauty, of shining darkness,
of fierce eroticism, of dreams, of blood, sperm
and fire. ORE continue in their tradition of sound,
the instruments ranging from drifting acoustic guitars,
piercing percussions, lush pianos and strings to
the fittingly decadent samples and above all the
deep voice of Tomas Pettersson. Brilliant. 2nd edition
in jewelcase.
