Live collaboration between these two Canadian musicians - Aidan Baker (Nadja) and Brandon Valdivia (Picastro) - recorded at the Lab30 Festival in Augsburg, Germany, November 14, 2008. This is a live improvisation with guitar and drums, detaching from what is the trademark sound of Aidan Baker and going in a krautrock / psych direction. Artwork by Mories (Grafika Obskura / Gnaw Their Tongues). Ltd x 323 hand-numbered copies in mini-DVD packaging. 3" CD proper (NOT CDR). ACT FAST!

AIDAN BAKER & THISQUIETARMY - 'Orange (Extended)' CD (Lunasylum)
"Orange" was the first collaboration between the two Canadian drone-doom guitarists Aidan Baker (Nadja) & Eric Quach. After sharing a bill in 2005 with their respective bands, they exchanged files by mail, which were then mixed by Quach in Montreal during the summer of 2006. The result was released as an EP through Quach's imprint (TQA Records). "Orange" is now reissued, re-edited, remastered and extended into a 47 minute CD, with the addition of 4 extra tracks from the same sessions that were left behind five years ago. Ltd x 400 copies in a mini-LP sleeve.
The fourth installment of “Bach Eingeschaltet” by Canadian guitar-drone hero Aidan Baker (Nadja) is a double-edged sword: his interpretations of the maestro are both the closest to the originals, almost academic in execution, and in the end the most deconstructive. The live arrangement for electric guitar of the famous cello suite 'Prelude' slowly but surely drowns in a mist of effects abuse, while the epic and lush metal-drone version of a menuet is carried away by Nadja-esque lumbering guitar chords in streams of boundless distortion. Packaged in a cardboard foldout sleeve and limited to just 166 (!!) hand-numbered copies on clear silver grey vinyl.
AIDAN BAKER - 'Blue Figures' CD (Basses Frequences)
This massive live album from Aidan Baker (Nadja) consists of two live sets (70 min+), one with 'Figures' and the other with an 'Untitled Drone' and 'Gathering Blue'. Aidan Baker's live performances are always surprising, not to say amazing. His previous live albums are perfect examples of what he is capable of when he's on stage. You already know the songs but it's always a bit different; there are variations, extensions, improvisations. Aidan dug in his own material to find a new vision... and you won't be disappointed here! Last but not least, the sound quality is stunning. Ltd x 300 copies in a gatefold digisleeve.
AIDAN BAKER - 'I Fall Into You' CD (Basses Frequences)
Reissue of the limited 2002 release from Canadian artist Aidan Baker (Nadja, Arc), originally issued on US label Public Eyesore. "Mixing drone with post rock and experimental electronics, this 5 track, 50-minute release takes inspiration from tons of different sources and stirs them together into one drifting mass of sound... heaving layers shift over one another like a Stars Of The Lid track, but instead of letting the washes go wherever they want, he introduces a very subtle beat behind it all... Combined, the first three tracks on the release are some of the best work in the area of drone and ambient that I've heard this year... if you're a fan of drone and ambient music, definitely seek out this release, as Baker is definitely doing some great things (Almost Cool). Ltd x 500 with new artwork including lyrics.
AIDAN BAKER - 'I Will Always And Forever Hold You In My Heart And Mind' CD (Basses Frequences / Small Doses)
CD reissue of this album previously released in an extremely limited edition on Small Doses. This is a stunning new full-length solo work from the man behind Nadja and Arc. A 51 minute work of shimmering, pulsating drone broken into twelve parts (one for each word of the title) that come together to form a seamless, wordless narrative. Ltd x 300 copies.
AIDAN BAKER - 'Lost In The Rat Maze' CD (ConSouling Sounds)
This prolific Canadian classically trained multi-instrumentalist has generously contributed to the doom / drone / ambient genre under the guise of Nadja, Arc and Whisper Room. Having been known for his extensive ambient soundscapes, Baker chose a different approach here to his sound weaving - albeit true to the "Bakersound". Instead of a densely layered and broad sound palette, Baker has almost embraced a "post-rock-ish" method of composing. More compact, pointed and clear progressions can be discovered, together with a diverse array of instruments, sounds and techniques. Captivating, fascinating and repetitive mesmerizing sounds, but with a different twist to it. Ltd x 800.

ATAVIST / NADJA - 'II:Points At Infinity' CD (Profound Lore Records)
Spanning two epic elongated tracks (around 22 minutes each), 'Points At Infinity' goes much further substance and depth wise than the first experimentation these two acts converged in. Taking this experiment between both acts to the next level, 'Points At Infinity' takes the doom / drone / ambient experiment into new territory as both acts continue to push new sonic ground. 'Points At Infinity' also marks the first Atavist recording featuring the new Atavist line-up which consists of new vocalist Matt Bartley and ex-Narcosis bass player Oliver Turner. Of course Nadja is and always will be Aidan Baker and Leah Buckareff. 6-panel digipak.

BETA CLOUD - 'Lunar Monograph' CD (Laughing Bride Media)
Latest disc of blissed out soft focus dronemusic from this longtime aQ fave. After past collaborations with Lull as well as Aidan Baker, Lunar Monograph is the first disc we've head from BC on his own, and it's definitely a divine bit of ethereal and ephemeral drift. Field recordings are deftly woven into soft swirling shimmering tones, guitars are spidery and delicate, spinning crystalline webs of hushed melody... pealing tones, and barely there melodies, drifting weightlessly through a field of minimal effects, and slow shifting whirs, as well as some mysterious field recordings, that make the end of the record feel like you've just come out of a trance, and found yourself back in the real world, which is not all that far off the mark. So nice." (Aquarius). Mastered by James Plotkin. Digipak.

NADJA - 'Desire In Uneasiness' CD (Crucial Blast)
"Desire In Uneasiness" is an album of all new material from acclaimed Canadian dreamsludge weavers Nadja. Five colossal jams of eternally-fuzzy, ethereal dirge that are powered by the interlocking bass guitars of Leah Buckareff and Aidan Baker, who set loose a wave of monstrous grinding bass riffs amidst a fog of beautiful, swirling electronic effects. "Desire..." also marks the first Nadja album to feature a live drummer in place of the drum machine programming that has driven the band's previous recordings, and the difference in the band's sound is apparent from the first crushing beats of album opener 'Disambiguation'. Hardback digifile.
NADJA - 'The Bungled And The Botched' LP (Blocks Recording Club)
The Bungled And The Botched is Nadja’s most scorching and most achingly beautiful set yet, pushing the boundaries into ever greater washes of distortion and crystalline silences. Originally available as a limited release (ConSouling Sounds, 2008), Blocks now presents a re-edited version of The Bungled And The Botched in a deluxe vinyl edition. Nadja is a duo of Aidan Baker and Leah Buckareff from Toronto, making music that encompasses experimental / drone, ambient, shoegazer and doom metal. Canadian import.

NADJA - 'When I See The Sun Always Shines On TV' CD (The End Records)
Toronto ambient / shoegaze / drone duo Nadja (Aidan Baker / Leah Buckareff) illustrate their diverse roots by covering some of their favorite artists: My Bloody Valentine, Codeine, Swans, Slayer, A-Ha, Elliott Smith, Kids In The Hall and The Cure. "... more than a simple tribute album. It's one of the best Baker byproducts in years" (Pitchfork). "Nadja carve out great slabs of sound, throbbing and trudging to melodic resolution with incredible slowness, over an entire side of vinyl at a time; you want to say “tectonic” and “chthonian” but not “glacial” because the fuzz-bass is so warm, rising through your feet, and the layered drones are so disorienting" (Drowned In Sound). VA - 'Escaping From Color - Rapoon Recomposed & Remixed' CD (Quasi Pop)
The conception, the idea, realisation and sound sources of this CD are all based on original sound material (loops and sounds) from Rapoon's “Tribal Sci Fi” release. Not the entire original Rapoon's tracks have been re-mixed or re-composed, but the general “sound” (or the sound aesthetic of Rapoon's music) instead. All the artists have provided their own original compositions, more or less based on the audio-sources from Rapoon: Aidan Baker, Anla Courtis, Cisfinitum & Rapoon, Family Underground, Francisco Lopez, Gert-Jan Prins, Heimir Bjorgulfsson, Jorge Castro, Machinefabriek, Mike Shiflet, Paulo Raposo, Ronnie Sundin, Steve Roden, Troum and TV Pow. VA - 'Saite An Saite' CD (Licht-Ung)
Guitar-based CD with long tracks from Aidan Baker (Nadja), relapxych.o and M. Sandbleistift (Licht-Ung). "Sandbleistift's gauzy drones hover above a thick amplifier hum, coupled with metal-on-metal scrapes, electrical interference directed into the pick-ups, and spidery textures that wiggle into the mix as he plucks away at the bridge of his guitar... Aidan Baker steals the show on this album. Even with his esteemed catalogue of ethereal ambience and doomdronedirge excursions, "One Step Ahead, One Step Behind" is pretty exceptional. A desolate guitar melody repeats throughout the entire track, alluding to the doom of Nadja had he kicked on the distortion pedals. But without, there's a sadness which permeates the track, accompanied by ghostly flickers of complimentary drones, bursts of static, and a slow-burning roar of distant distortion that eventually consumes the entire piece. Relapxych.0 holds his own in creating a series of guitar-meets-the-laptop abstractions that looks to Fennesz and Tim Hecker for inspiration, and does a pretty good job in the way of an homage." WHISPER ROOM - 'Birch White' CD (Elevation Recordings)
Whisper Room is a trio based in Toronto, Canada and Berlin, Germany featuring Aidan Baker (Nadja), Neil Wiernik (NAW) and Jakob Thiesen (Students). These three creative minds had moved in similar musical circles in Toronto and Montreal for years sporadically sharing stages but did not actively come together to play as a trio until Dec 2006. Since then they have worked as a improv unit and combined their disparate musical backgrounds to create music which explores the conjunction of electronic rhythms and textures with the pulsations and psychedelics and shoegaze and krautrock music. Ltd x 2000 copies in a digipak.
