KEPLERS ODD - 'GRO J1655-40' CD (Desolation House)
Keplers Odd are a unique drone project comprised of bass, guitar and noise, headed by Daniel Jansson of Deadwood. The band's debut album is a raw sound affair performed and recorded live in the truest sense of the idea. Keplers Odd create textural soundscapes of harsh atmospheric noise which show an uncanny Merzbow-ian sense of tension and release. It's this innate ability to harness noise's primal ebb and flow that allows "GRO J1655-40" to be as disturbing as humanly possible. 6-panel digipak.
During the 80s, Kiyoshi Mizutani was a member of Merzbow with Masami Akita, beginning his solo work in 1989. Mizutani's sound is characterised by use of primitive electric feedback and field recordings. Soundscape theory is integral to his work. Kiyoharu Kuwayama began working with sound in the late 1980s, using half-scale violin and contact mic, daily junk and found objects. In 1999 he started improvised acoustic duo Kuwayama-Kijima. Hideaki Shimada is a Japanese violinist. In the late 70s he became interested in the European improvised music scene. Since 1980, he has been involved in violin improvisation. In 1985, he started solo project, Agencement. His solowork has been described as both noise and music, avantgarde and minimalist, nervous and mellow, frantic and still, hectic and calm. Recorded at Gambetta, Tokyo in 2001.
"Prime Radiant' is noise as a spray of blood-red roses, a vast wash of colour concealing six inch thorns. Kazuyuki Kishino has been at the forefront of the Japanese noise scene for over 20 years, both as guitarist/leader of extremist sludge rockers Zeni Geva and as a solo artist exploring the outer territories of electronica. Along with Masonna and Merzbow, he is part of a trinity of noisemakers whose work seems to operate at the very limits of human endurance. Like theirs, Null's work transcends its surface violence and reveals something rich and strange at its core. What makes this montage of live and studio work marginally less forbidding than usual is its abrupt change of mood and texture; rather than pummelling an idea into the dust, he covers a lot of sonic ground here, albeit a terrain of savagely blasted extremes. Kishino has said that he tries to imagine through his work what music from other galaxies might sound like. I must admit I don't know where Masami's love for chickens comes from, but a whole chicken chorus is present on this work. They are their in the form loops, and on top Merzbow improves with computers. A dense, cloudy swirl of sound is what the result... From there we return to Akita's early style where the walls of noise were not so loud and thick. Although only preliminary discussions on the collaboration took place and Watermann never completed any work towards the project, Watermann's source material that was to be the basis of the work now serves as a basis for this tribute release. This release serves as a record of Watermann and his influence, documenting the respect he reserved from his peers and, hopefully, introducing his work to a new audience." VA - 'Manifesto Rumorarmonico Post Futurista' 2 x LP (Old Europa Cafe)
Vinyl compilation devoted to “Luigi Russolo” the father of Futurist music and the first man theorizing that music has to be composed mainly by rumors and not by harmonic sounds. His music was played with a self made instrument named "Intonarumori” or “Rumorarmonio”. For this project, OEC invited four artists known for being very close to "Futurism" since their beginnings and for their true and uncompromising “Industrial” involvement: GX Jupitter-Larsen, Merzbow, Rapoon and Sacher Pelz (Maurizio Bianchi). Ltd x 765 hand-numbered copies on heavy white vinyl in a very nice textured gatefold sleeve.

"Nor Noise" is a documentary about Noise music - perhaps the most exiting and innovative form of music to evolve in the last few years. Since 2001, film maker Tom Hovinbøle interviewed some of the most central artists, both Norwegian and international. The artists speak about their relationship to NOise music: What is it? Where does it come from? How do you work with pure sounds? Noise is also put into an historical context spanning from the Futurists and Luigi Russolo before the First World War, through the first experiments with electronical music in the 1950s, avant-garde in the 60s, the Industrial and Punk movements in the 70s, before Noise establishes itself as a music in its own right in Japan during the 70s. The film also contains a lot of rare concert footage with the artists: Tore H. Bøe (Origami Republika), David Cotner, Masami Akita (Merzbow), Lasse Marhaug (Jazzkammer), Tashimaru Nakamura, Arm, Asbjørn Flø, Maja S.K. Ratkje (Spunk og Fe-mail), Kjell Runar Jenssen (DEL), Francisco Lopéz, Helge Sten (Deathprod) and Otomo Yoshihide.

Third edition of Whitehouse's 1998 studio album. "The fainthearted should be warned of the recordings of Whitehouse. Noise music freaks will find even the most abrasive works of Merzbow, C.C.C.C., and the like to pale next to the extremity of these recordings... Fans of the group should know that this recording presents quite a departure from the analog sound of earlier works. In its place is an equally abrasive wall of digital noise made up of hammering beats and high-pitched drilling-tone punishment, over which the trademark dialogues of depravity and sickness are delivered in clipped distortion.
