Aaron Dilloway AARON DILLOWAY - 'Beggar Master' CD (Hanson Records)

CD reissue of first full-length LP (Ltd x 300, 2005, Hanson Records) by ex-Wolf Eyes member Aaron Dilloway. Tape manipulations, feedback, crude field recordings and Nepali dirt. "...two tracks of hate-ridden explosive noise utilising tape loops, feedback, and featuring an image of a woman stabbing her husband / lover on the back of the disc. A frightful sight indeed, but not something which goes in any way to describing the kind of audio assault that's carried on the disc itself, really that has to be heard to be believed. Those of you who found yourself salivating over the Carlos Giffoni and Merzbow collaboration, or even Prurient's earlier work should give this a much closer inspection... Totally crushing stuff!"

Debut release by this new computer music artist from Hamburg, Germany. An exciting mixture of dark, slowly evolving drones, beautifully distorted melodies which have been compared to early Fennesz, Pimmon and the like, obscure hard rock sampling meets raw data manipulation sounding like Earth jamming with Merzbow, digital noise and computer improvisations.   Gerritt / John Wiese GERRITT & JOHN WIESE - 'The Disappearing Act EP' MCD (Misanthropic Agenda)

It's Wiese - brace yourself. This 20 minute EP sees the noise maverick working with Misanthropic Agenda label boss Gerritt, hardly a shrinking violet himself, having gone head to head with Merzbow, D Yellow Swans and Sunn O))) in the past. 'The Disappearing Act EP' starts out with two short, sharp shocks of mashed-up sound, sudden jolts of electricity and the worrying rush of what sounds like toxic gas escaping from a canister. The final track is one 15 minute fade up of unbearably caustic jet engine whine. It'll have you pinned back in your armchair while your face gets pummelled by its horribly intense power. Digipak.

Government Alpha GOVERNMENT ALPHA - 'Sporadic Spectra' CD (Ground Fault)

Extremely harsh Japanese noise that changes enormously from track to track, and also changes within each track, into several different experiences. Reminiscent of a combination of Merzbow, with his rumbling, crushing noises that cycle, and KK Null's penchant for high pitched, piercing scree via guitar. A satisfying, punishing listen, quality extreme noise for those who know the difference and need the real stuff. Government Alpha delivers, and this is some of the best. "This CD sees them playing with noise and feedback, despite the use of some water sounds and short outbursts of rhythmical elements.   Jesus Of Nazareth JESUS OF NAZARETH - 'The Shame Of Being A Child' CD (Dotsmark)

Second release from this US (mostly) extreme Noise / Gabber unit. Beginning with punishing drill n' bass breaks and blastbeats with monstrous psychotic vocals and HARSH noise, "The Shame Of Being A Child" progresses into ghostly drones and white noise. Add in some Merzbow-meets-Boredoms insanity, mashed up grindcore debris, heavy machine beat action underneath swirling drones like ala Troum or Final. Overall, this album falls somewhere around the intersection of Discordance Axis, Muslimgauze, Japanese Noise, Nasenbluten and Winterkälte(!). Highly recommended to avant-grind and heavy noise fans. Also features a stunning, very creepy cover of "Willow's Song" from The Wicker Man! 20 untitled tracks with bonus live action (Washington DC, 2004). Japanese import.

Keplers Odd KEPLERS ODD - 'GRO J1655-40' CD (Desolation House)

Keplers Odd are a unique drone project comprised of bass, guitar and noise, headed by Daniel Jansson of Deadwood. The band's debut album is a raw sound affair performed and recorded live in the truest sense of the idea. Keplers Odd create textural soundscapes of harsh atmospheric noise which show an uncanny Merzbow-ian sense of tension and release. It's this innate ability to harness noise's primal ebb and flow that allows "GRO J1655-40" to be as disturbing as humanly possible. 6-panel digipak.

Mizutani / Shimada / Kuwayama / 310810 KIYOSHI MIZUTANI / HIDEAKI SHIMADA / KIYOHARU KUWAYAMA - 'Gambetta' CD (Monochrome Vision)

£5 Meltdown During the 80s, Kiyoshi Mizutani was a member of Merzbow with Masami Akita, beginning his solo work in 1989. Mizutani's sound is characterised by use of primitive electric feedback and field recordings. Soundscape theory is integral to his work. Kiyoharu Kuwayama began working with sound in the late 1980s, using half-scale violin and contact mic, daily junk and found objects. In 1999 he started improvised acoustic duo Kuwayama-Kijima. Hideaki Shimada is a Japanese violinist. In the late 70s he became interested in the European improvised music scene. Since 1980, he has been involved in violin improvisation. In 1985, he started solo project, Agencement. His solowork has been described as both noise and music, avantgarde and minimalist, nervous and mellow, frantic and still, hectic and calm. Recorded at Gambetta, Tokyo in 2001.

KK Null KK NULL - 'Prime Radiant' CD (Blossoming Noise)

"Prime Radiant' is noise as a spray of blood-red roses, a vast wash of colour concealing six inch thorns. Kazuyuki Kishino has been at the forefront of the Japanese noise scene for over 20 years, both as guitarist/leader of extremist sludge rockers Zeni Geva and as a solo artist exploring the outer territories of electronica. Along with Masonna and Merzbow, he is part of a trinity of noisemakers whose work seems to operate at the very limits of human endurance. Like theirs, Null's work transcends its surface violence and reveals something rich and strange at its core. What makes this montage of live and studio work marginally less forbidding than usual is its abrupt change of mood and texture; rather than pummelling an idea into the dust, he covers a lot of sonic ground here, albeit a terrain of savagely blasted extremes. Kishino has said that he tries to imagine through his work what music from other galaxies might sound like. If the little green men are all listening to this stuff for fun, 'Prime Radiant' is a scary prospect for sure" (The Wire). Card sleeve

  Merzbow MERZBOW - 'Age Of 369 / Chant 2' 2 x CD (Extreme)

"Age of 369" was originally released on cassette in 1984. The lesser known "Chant 2" is also from this period and complements the sonic intensity of the other. Of further importance is the influence of Maurizio Bianchi (MB) and the mail art that was integral to the industrial underground. These reissues document significant works from Japan's Noise master. Made with a cheap tape recorder and a lot of tape loops, which were then manipulated by hand. "Lowest Music 2" was a very early example of that. Then Merzbow mixed more tape loops with more harsh noise. "Age of 369" (Mlroku No Yo) and "Chant 2" are the finest early examples of that. The Japanese title of "Age of 369" was inspired by the Omoto Cult, founded by Onisabura Degughi. The double CD re-release of "Age of 369" (miroku No Yo) and Chant 2" combines both the music and the Mail Art of this period and is a fitting document of Merzbow In 1984. Australian import. The first track on Merzbow's latest opus was recorded at Tin Pan Alley studios, London, on 20th April 2008 - the day after his momentous performance at ULU. Akita created an astounding and very unique 20-minute track, playing freestyle drums over his trademark noise. The final 2 tracks were created at Munemi House in Tokyo. Ouroboros is an ancient symbol dating back more than 4000 years. A snake or dragon eats its own tail, and represents eternity, or the circularity of life. A more modern interpretation might suggest that mankind will eventually consume itself once it finishes consuming all the life and resources on Earth. Masami Akita, recording under the name Merzbow is considered one of the preeminent artists in the field of noise music. In recent years his output has centered on animal themes, following his concern for the protection of animal rights. Albums for chickens, whales, seals and dolphins have been released on a variety of labels. "Ouroboros" is presented in an exquisite handmade screen-printed eight-panel roll-folder featuring original artwork by Mr. Akita, and is limited to 500 copies.

This disc from the Japanese master builds after many minutes into noise, but this is structured, rhythmic, surging blasts of localised power. Reminds of old Skullflower, Holland Skin Tunnel, a loud Nurse With Wound. This is because it feels so instrumental, almost as if a guitar or two are involved in this. From there we return to Akita's early style where the walls of noise were not so loud and thick. He was the founder of Heldon, a band whose violent fusion of electronics and guitar in the '70s rivalled the German electronic school. Merzbow is the forerunner of Japanese electronic music, and for the last 20 years plus, has been at the top of his game ploughing more and more extreme sonic territories. This release will surprise a lot of people in its sheer beauty. This is a collaboration that works in the true sense of the word, with each artist complimenting the other over six long sprawling tracks each occupying the whole of a side. Housed in a gloss laminate sleeve and limited to just 1000 copies.

Scremola / 31080 SCREMOLA - 'Dirt' CD (Three Plugs Records)

£5 Meltdown Debut album from Jun-ichi Takahashi's noise project. "Dirt is six tracks and 40+ minutes of an amalgamation of power electronics and rhythmic noise that wouldn’t be out of place on the Ant Zen record label. Comparisons to P.A.L, Hypnoskull and Converter spring readily to mind… with a little touch of Dissecting Table and Merzbow thrown in for good measure… all wrapped up in typical Japanese brutality and originality... Thundering beats compete against electronic distorted squeals and grunting vocals in a fight to the death as the orgy of noise reaches orgasmic proportions." (Aural Pressure). Japanese import.

Epitaph For John VA - 'Epitaph For John' CD (Korm Plastics)

Compilation with Asmus Tietchens, RLW (Ralf Wehowsky), Merzbow, Freiband (Frans De Waard) and John Watermann. "On April 2nd 2002 John Watermann died suddenly of an infection resulting from his ongoing treatment for cancer. Having in the final year of his life returned to artistic pursuits, he still had vast plans for future projects. Among these unfulfilled projects were plans to collaborate with Frans de Waard on a new release. Although only preliminary discussions on the collaboration took place and Watermann never completed any work towards the project, Watermann's source material that was to be the basis of the work now serves as a basis for this tribute release. This release serves as a record of Watermann and his influence, documenting the respect he reserved from his peers and, hopefully, introducing his work to a new audience." [Frans De Waard] Outsized sleeve with inserts.
