BIRCHVILLE CAT MOTEL - 'Gunpowder Temple Of Heaven' CD (Pica Disk)
(2008) Birchville Cat Motel is the project of New Zealander Campbell Kneale, who many of you will know from his doom / drone project Black Boned Angel. "Gunpowder Temple of Heaven" is a 40 minute long-form piece that keeps building and unfolding; heaven for drone-noise enthusiasts. The CD comes in a digifile containing a booklet with a complete Birchville discography as well as liner-notes by Bruce Russell.
(2000) This is a collection of Norwegian improv noise collective DEL's live performances between 1998 and 2000. The seven man unit seems to use all manner of junk, and drums, guitars etc and created vaguely rhythmic experiments, that often combine to create sounds that can be gentle and excellent drifting ambience, or even gel to create SKULLFLOWER / RAMLEH workouts. Remixes from Lasse Marhaug, John Hegre (both members of Jazkamer / Jazzkammer) and Jon Birger Wormdahl (KA).

HIJOKAIDAN - 'Polar Nights Live' CD (Pica Disk)
(2008) "Polar Nights Live" documents the historical and astonishing performances from this Japanese Noise duo at All Ears festival in Oslo Norway, January 2006, made all the more significant as the duo rarely perform outside Japan. The duo of Jojo and Junko performed as Hijokaidan on the opening night. On the second evening they were joined by Norwegian guitarist Per Gisle Galåen (DEL, The Birds), unleashing thick layers of psychedelic and distorted guitar fog. The final night saw Junko hooking up with noise-nik Sten Ove Toft (Ryfylke) for a hellish collaboration of twisted electronics and the most intense voice in music. Unlike most other noise acts Hijokaidan has not spoiled their fans with a huge number of releases, which makes "Polar Nights Live" an even more unique statement of pure noise sound. Presented in a digifile.
(2008) Incapacitants need no introduction. The duo of Fumio Kosakai and T.Mikawa are veterans and originators of Japanese noise music and are cult band number one for noise fanatics worldwide. In January 2007 Incapacitants performed live, for only the second time in Europe in 25 years, at the All Ears festival in Oslo Norway (the band later described the two shows as highlights of their career). "Burning Orange" documents these concerts. The CD consists of two complete sets; one Incapacitants as a duo and on the second joined by Finnish noise connoisseur Tommi Keränen (Testicle Hazard, Gentle Evil), who describes incapacitants in the liner notes as "...an inspiring, pure, all-encompassing, ecstatic storm of sound that has a power of near-religious proportions". JAZKAMER - 'Balls The Size Of Texas, Liver The Size Of Brazil' CD (Purple Soil)
(2007) What a great title! Jazkamer / Jazzkammer is the joining of two Norwegian composers / musicians: John Hegre and Lasse Marhaug. "Balls The Size Of Texas, Liver The Size Of Brazil" follows in the landscape of "Panic" (2006); slow-moving passages of weeping guitar, overlapped with textures of turntable surface-noise and distant location recordings. "This is one for the rainy days, or when you're longing for the prairie". Presented in a very nice 6-panel digifile. Czech import.

(2004) With 74 minutes of music and numerous collaborations (including Frans De Waard, Phroq, Lasse Marhaug and Mattin amongst others - some 'telepathic'), this split release covers many areas of electronic and experimental music, from chilling ambience to high energy noise freakouts and from trapezoidal rhythms to plain weird alien atmospheres. Dissections of directions abound, and this disc is well named: what do you do after music is out there? Try ripping its heart out. Live recordings by Lasse Marhaug (Jazzkammer) and Tore H Bøe (Origami Republika / Galaktika etc) torn apart, with no overdubs. The music ranges from dense, 'old school' noise to raw, fundamental noise. Kapotte Muziek, brings proceedings to a heady close - remixes, cut-ups and experiments. A great noisy assault on the senses!
