(2004) "Edge Of Nothing" was first released in a cassette edition of 5 (!) copies on Jackman’s Aeroplane imprint, and then included on the legendary “The Elephant Table Album” DLP in 1983 (feat. Coil, Nurse With Wound, SPK, Lustmord etc). Both tracks presented here are the January 2003 mixes of the original material, which was derived from variously stimulating a cymbal with bows, knuckles, loops etc. An extremely dense piece of experimental noise where (allegedly) the B side is the A side reversed. Regular edition of 400 copies.

FIRST HUMAN FERRO - 'Guernica Macrocosmica' CD (Eibon Records)
(2003) Who said dark ambient has nothing to share with melodies? Who said it is not possible to combine dark, deep and dense drones with traditional music and melodies? These phenomenal Russian musicians are here to prove there are seemingly undiscovered ways to conceive and create dark ambient. Put your imagination to work, and try to figure out something like AMON meets Red Army choirs, LUSTMORD meets sad Russian popular music. Very hard to explain with words alone. Digifile.
FOUNDATION HOPE - 'A Call To Redeemers' CD (Divine Comedy)
(2006) Debut album from this act who later signed to Cold Meat Industry. The music of Foundation Hope creates pieces of dramatic film music. The band is influenced by dark ambient acts like Raison D’être, Lustmord, or Robert Rich, but also post-rock acts such as Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Low and Mogwai. Sad and bleak soundscapes for a depraved religious institute, pretending to give comfort and light. This release comes in a limited digifile (500 copies), presenting landscapes illustrated by choirs, echoing and heavy menacing atmospheres.
GRUNTSPLATTER - 'The Aberrant Laboratory' CD (Dark Vinyl)
(2006) The fourth release from Gruntsplatter builds a more transcendent atmosphere, weaving together a sustained darkness that conceals the grimy implements of the taboo nestled in the din. The brooding ambience and cutting frequencies combine with odd melody and an enveloping, fluid mix that lead you through the dirty laboratories and hovels of forbidden science where genius and atrocity meet on level ground. The familiar components of subtle detail, amorphous depth, and seething moods of Gruntsplatter are intact and further evolved here to allow the listeners thoughts to wander. Comparable to Blackhouse, Hunting Lodge, Throbbing Gristle, SPK, Lustmord etc.

INADE - 'The Crackling Of The Anonymous' CD (Loki Foundation)
(2001) This dark and hallucinatory masterwork, is constructed via the never heard utterances of the void, while tapping into the psyche of the impossible. A stunning dark ambient release that defies all logic because it creates its own! Gorgeous 6-panel digipak by the masters of Dark ambience!! A must-have for fans of Lustmord!
(2007) "...Hamre's work has an ambience that always feels nautical. There is ever a sense of vast, oceanic space... [he] takes a minimalist approach to his typically lush (albeit delightfully creepy) soundscapes. The result reminds of works such as "Biosphere", with bits of Lustmord and K.K. Null thrown in for both ominous rhythm and outer darkness" [Lunar Hypnosis]. Vlad Jecan manages to combine distorted sonorities with profound calmness. Cosmic images placed in front of your eyes reflect the grey emotions lurking inside yourself. The music of an emotional paradox, depressing yet mirthful, distorted yet calm.

LUSTMORD - 'First - A Document Of Early Acoustic & Tactical Experimentation' CD (Dark Vinyl)
"First" was released as the first (untitled) Lustmord album on Sterile Records in 1982. The earliest Lustmord recordings show the project's industrial roots with a sound not far from Throbbing Gristle. This record incomparably represents art, ideology, uncompromising consequence and sound tactical proceeding of one of the most interesting, still existing members of the industrial music movement. "First" features John Balance of Coil and additional voices by Nigel Ayers of Nocturnal Emissions, and Nigel Dunster. The CD version features longer edits of some of the LP material, along with additional material (compilation tracks) not on the original.

LUSTMORD - 'Other' CD (Hydra Head)
Brand new release from the master of Dark Ambient! Lustmord has been creeping out the music world since 1980, prior to joining industrial forefathers SPK. By the time he started scoring films like 1994's "The Crow", he'd already worked with English experimental luminaries Nurse With Wound, Current 93, and members of Coil. His latest collection of night terrors and Lynch-ian atmospherics features guest appearances from Adam Jones (Tool), Aaron Turner (Isis) and Buzz Osborne (The Melvins). Presented in a stunning 6-panel digipak with booklet.
LUSTMORD - 'The Place Where The Black Stars Hang' CD (Soleilmoon)
"The Place Where the Black Stars Hang” was first released in 1994 on Side Effects, and while the earlier Lustmord album "Heresy" gave birth to the "Dark Ambient" genre, it is “The Place Where the Black Stars Hang” that defines it. It’s a work regularly cited by critics, audiences and musicians as being amongst the very best and most influential albums of its decade. This new edition has been re-mastered and given new artwork. The differences are subtle yet powerful, giving the album a more nuanced feeling of space and detail than ever before. Oft imitated, but never equalled, Lustmord: The Power of Sound.
MOLJEBKA PVLSE - 'Sadalmelik' CD (Cold Meat Industry)
Imagine someone delicately rolling out a dough comprising both the subtler moments of Maëror Tri and the hypnotic ambience of mid-eighties Lustmord, incorporating low frequency factory sounds and you might come close to this minimal / dark ambient drone party. One track at over 70 minutes. Ltd x 1000 copies in a gatefold sleeve.

NOISEGATE - 'Suspended Animation Ambient Vol. I' CD (Tumult)
For their second full length album, this East Bay ambient act abandon the violent, corrosive noise that peppered their first full length and instead have created a dark and barren dronescape of ominous, almost imperceptibly shifting, deep, resonant rumbles. Shimmering luminescent shards of low end flow effortlessly through the glistening darkness while hazy tonal reverberations reflect microscopic textures, grey and austere. Breath-taking arrangements of hum and buzz, chime and soothe. Reminiscent of the isolationist experiments and drone investigations of Lustmord, Organum, Zoviet France, Andrew Chalk and Jonathan Coleclough.
ONIROT - 'Augusta Taurinorium' Enhanced CD (Inner Gravity)
Onirot is a malignant project showing the darkest side of human isolationism. 8 tracks of pure insane sonic anxiety will bring the soul in the infinite fear of natural essence of nothing. A great mixture between early MEGAPTERA and LUSTMORD musical experience. Included a bonus video track full of extreme realities of human weakness.

PHAENON - 'Submerged' CD (Malignant Records)
The debut release of Polish-born artist Szymon Tankiewicz, 'Submerged' is a dark ambient tour de force. Visually and sonically enveloping, this is an album of space and texture, slowly revealing a psychoactive soundscape of majestic, arcing timbres, circadian buzzes, and expansive drones. Heavy, and cosmically weighty in the beginning, 'Submerged' evolves into something more minimalist and serene, radiating a celestial beauty, yet becoming even more bleak and suffocating as it progresses over it‘s 66 minute time frame. A must for dark ambient purists. 6 panel digipak, with artwork by K. Enderlein (LOKI). Mastered by Thomas Garrison (Control). File next to Yen Pox / Lustmord / Inade / Caul.

SLEEP RESEARCH FACILITY - 'Dead Weather Machine' CD (Manifold)
Dark exquisite ambient, simply perfect The titanic waves of impenetrable sonics slowly swing from out of the far-away darkness like the tentacles of some galaxy-sized beast, moving through clouds with the power of a silk-covered sledgehammer, thudding at the other side of the world. Several tracks of slightly differing technique are just chilling, huge and deep...scary deep. Like the electrically-charged shade of Lustmord's 'Place Where The Black Stars Hang'. Monstrous. Somehow threatening. The previous SRF record, 'Nostromo' (CSR34CD) used the first few seconds of the film 'Alien' to create an expansive, chilling work of ambient. Here, the artist was living in a small flat in the UK with a heating/ac unit that was slowly breaking down, clogged with dust, slowly choking on it's own decay. Dead Weather Machine tells monstrous tales of things and places and feelings that it's common beginnings would never seem to suggest. But then imagine being as small as a piece of dust, trekking through some enormous, dying mechanical landscape, the sounds of world-sized storms swirling all around you. A microscopic entity, floating for ages through the channels and chambers of an enormous, dying machine, a machine that makes the weather for an entire world. A machine that is slowly dying.

SVARTSINN - 'Devouring Consciousness' CD (Eibon Records)
Brilliant debut album from this Norwegian legend, who has since released albums on Cyclic Law. Imagine a crossing between Amon and Lustmord, enriched with some dreadful melodies here and there. THERMIDOR - '1929' Enhanced CD (Brume Records / Thisco)
Portuguese act Thermidor pays homage to the eternally unknown and translates into soundscapes (and other media) an inherent feeling of timeless desolation, nightmarish dreams and loss. “1929” is a deeply immersive exploration of what lies beyond the wall of sleep, showing glimpses into timeless vistas where the boundaries between fantasy and reality are blurred. Musically reminiscent of the Dark Ambient works of Lustmord, Herbst 9, First Law or Coph Nia, “1929” also features 2 remixes by Flint Glass and Empusae, as well as a video track for “Obituarium” by António Sabença. Ltd x 500 copies in a slimline DVD case with inserts / stickers.
VESTIGIAL - 'Translucent Communion' CD (Cold Meat Industry)
Having developed a strong cult following with their limitedEP, a split LP, and compilation works, Vestigial (Italy) come forth with their debut CD poised to establish themselves among the dark ambient elite. 'Translucent Communion' is a reflection of the hollow and imaginary archetype of our civilization... a blackened view of humanity falling into a perfect nothingness of technocratic illusions... a refined and well designed disharmony for our next generation. 6 tracks that arise from the shadows, then spread and sweep across a barren, wind swept landscape, creating a sound so thick and texturally deep it swallows the earth like a venomous fog. File next to Raison D'Être, Lustmord and Bad Sector. Spot-varnished digipak.

7 years after their acclaimed debut 'The Creatures Of The Wind', Where (Zario of organic ambient project Olhon and Darvulia) return with 'Wererat'. Utilising field recordings taken in sewers, this release revolves around the idea of rats conquering the earth. Hyper-obscure, deep, cavernous Dark Ambient and Drone for followers of Lustmord, Thomas Köner, Kerovnian or Amon. Highly recommended!
