Death In June DEATH IN JUNE - 'Live In New York' DVD (Tesco USA)

This beautiful and unique documentary piece, recorded at the Walker Stage in New York City on November 10, 2002, is a career-spanning collection of 29 tracks, each receiving a definitive live performance in DIJ's more recent stripped-down acoustic arrangements. Death in June has been the vehicle for Douglas P. to create a unique fusion of electronics, martial drumming (from John Murphy), and esoteric lyrics and visual symbolism. His work has spawned a new musical genre of its own, which some have called "Neofolk." While this disc will help the uninitiated to catch-up with one of the most important musical voices performing today, fans will appreciate that this DVD memorialises a concert that was nearly 21 years to the day that the band made its live debut, opening for The Birthday Party in London. The intimate setting allows Douglas P. to interact directly with the audience, taking spontaneous requests from fans and providing charming background stories for each song. Comes in a DVD digipak.

PAL, Region 0 (will play in all European DVD players).

Lovak LOVAC - 'Apes Of A Cold God CD (Soleilmoon)

Swedish folk / industrialists Lovac is a new band with old roots, having already released a full-length CD of Death in June covers on Douglas P.'s NERUS label under the name Down in June. With a distinctive "totenpop" vision they re-invented the songs to the delight of both Death In June fans and music journalists who discovered the treasure of Douglas P. songs anew. Lovac’s music evokes a night-of-the-world mood that deftly calls down the nostalgia of romanticism and overlays it with a war machine blowing a cold breeze of death into the dawn. Lovac is part of a larger movement of modern European pop music that draws inspiration from traditional folk music and brings it to new life in a fertile clash with the contemporary minimalistic industrial scene. Combining this music with text fragments from Karl Marx, Antonin Artaud and Percy Bysshe Shelley, “Apes of a Cold God” invites the listener to take a deep look into the abysmal underside of civilization. Lavishly printed mini-LP style sleeve with gold foil blocking and an eight page booklet.

Pale Roses PALE ROSES - 'Fear Of Dawn' CD (The Eastern Front)

Debut album from this French Neofolk act. Ten songs about war, melancholy and the pagan roots of Europe. Two reworked versions of traditional British ballads ('Lord Gregory' and 'Two Ravens') make the album complete. Pale Roses have done their best to keep the instrumentation minimal, stripped down to the core, free of all non-essential arrangements. However, slight variations between songs keep the album from being repetitive. Although Pale Roses are ready to pay their dues to the founders of the Neofolk genre (Sol Invictus, Death In June and Fire+Ice), it is not far off to also mention Nick Drake, Nico or Richard Thompson as influences. Ltd x 1000 copies.
