This album is considered a classic, yet defies easy categorisation. The music is lilting, hypnotic, and aesthetically quite pleasing to the ear. It features restructurings of works by The Carpenters, Rod McKuen, and Ragnar Redbeard, as well as original vitriolic and humanist pieces and misanthropic tunes by Rice. This album was inspired by Jackie Gleason's romantic recordings from the 1950's. Last year My Own Little Label released 'Haze Shrapnel', a new piece by Bass Communion and a remix of that by Freiband as a 3" disc. For 'Headwind' Freiband returns to the guitar playing by Martin Luiten (Pick-up) and produces a spacious computerized remix of his elaborate playing. SKROL - 'New Laws / New Orders' CD (Twilight Records)
The return of one of the most amazing industrial acts! The conception of of Czech ensemble Skrol arose from the visions of its spiritual father Vladimír Hirsch in autumn 1995, when he was joined by Martina Sanollová-Sweeney and Tom Saivon. Skrol employ original principles of composition, with the added depth of classical influences. Their inspiration derives mainly from Slavic melodic and harmonic systems. "New Laws / New Orders" was originally an instrumental suite of Vladimír Hirsch, created in 2000, later reworked alongside some unreleased pieces from 1996-1999. Skrol's majestic and uncompromising music is based on specific melodiousness and orchestration of contemporary neoclassical music, situated in the arch of industrial ambient and brutalised by noises and modern technological sounds. This album represents the “swan song” of the band, being its last activity. Digipak.
"Visions Of Ecstasy" by controversial director Nigel Wingrove was intended as an exploration of the real life “visions” of St. Teresa of Avila. It’s well documented that these visions are erotic in nature so the project was on thin ice from the outset. The film was and is still the only film banned in the UK on the grounds of blasphemy, but the soundtrack by Steven Severin is available and features another ex-Banshees, Martin McCarrick on cello. A 45 minute ambient instrumental album at times reminiscent of the film scores of Michael Nyman and Philip Glass. Presented in a stunning 6-panel digisleeve (featuring a lenticular cover) with slipcase. Released on Severin's own label.
