ARNICA - 'Numancia' MCD (Ahnstern)
Numancia was a small castro (Spanish for Celtiberian village). The inhabitants of Numancia fought against the Roman Empire for more than 20 years. In 133B.C. Rome sent their best general Escipion to create a siege and destroy Numancia so they could control the entire peninsula. However, when the Romans entered the village, the survivors decided to kill their own children, set their own belongings on fire and end their own lives. If the Empire controlled Celtiberia they could not control their people. Musically Numancia is a invigorating trip from the magnificence of the village to the final decision of choose to die instead of being conquered. Solid drums and ritual elements are mixed with Heathen tunes for the recognizable Ur-Folk sound. All texts are written and sung in Spanish and in the ancient Celtiberian language. Outsize sleeve.
The second collaboration between Japanese noise legend Hiroshi Hasegawa (Astro) and duo Cornucopia from Puerto Rico, though the first one released on CD. Each of the two artists has created a lengthy track from sounds by the other artist. A totally psychedelic record, often in extreme frequencies and dynamics. Features some of Cornucopia's trademark pulsating sounds, while Astro's track is and unstoppable stream of deep, heavy and slow as hell noise magma. Physical, brutal and meditative - the pure beauty of modern extreme electronic music. Ltd x 500 copies in an outsized gatefold sleeve.

ASTROWIND - 'Kaidanovsky' CD (Greytone)
This Latvian sound designer creates amazing, deeply emotional and romantic music with help of vintage analogue synthesizers and an open-reel tape recorder. There is a feel of escapism with huge chords of hissing analogue synthesizers, and a special kind of Baltic melancholia. This first Astrowind CD is a tribute to Aleksander Kaidanovsky, worldwide well known and seminal Russian actor and film director. The album consists is eight tracks filled with mind-floating constructions and de-constructions that will bring the listener to a wider dimension. ”Kaidanovsky” sounds like an oppressive, yet captivating, music experience surfing from a lysergic and mutant electronic textures to a degraded samples and hypnotic voices of the universe. A really amazing and impressive album for one of the most talented artist coming from Baltic area. Digipak.

BARBAROSSA UMTRUNK - 'Wehrwolf Dharma' CD (UFA Muzak)
A grandiose album by the French Military pop / Esoteric industrial act Barbarossa Umtrunk. Ethnic elements, cymbals, shamanic singing, heavy drones, synth lines and lots of vocals blend together into an insane mix of apocalyptic, ritual and orchestral neoclassical. The album contains tribute songs to Runes Order and Celtic Frost... Cold merciless ambience of a forest where secrets are buried in soil itself, dark paths that protect and wreck... in darkness it starts the dreadful game of death, and the sound of broken bones and the wild howl of wolves become a new catastrophic belief. EMME YA - 'Atavistic Dreams & Phallic Totems' CD (Cold Spring CSR127CD)
40 minutes of dense astral emanations and magickal paradigms transmitted through the ritual mantras generated by Emme Ya. Emme Ya's "Atavistic Dreams & Phallic Totems" is based on the mysterious African Dogon tribe and their secret oral tradition. In the 1930s two anthropologists gained their trust enough to be told these remarkable secrets. The Dogon seemed to possess advanced astronomical knowledge beyond their means, without any instruments. They revealed that the star Sirius was orbited by the 'smallest and heaviest of all stars' and drew its elliptical orbit, which spans 50 years. This white dwarf (Sirius B) is so invisible that the first image was only obtained by scientists in 1970. But the Dogon also told of a third star in the system named Emme Ya (now Sirius C). This was only discovered in 1995 and only with the use of advanced infrared imaging. The Dogon say that their information was given to their ancestors through contact with beings from the star system of Sirius, calling these beings Nommos or 'the monitors of the universe'.
FILIVS MACROCOSMI / CHARADRIIFORM - 'Ex Vivo' CD (A5 Production)
One long collaborative dark ambient / drone track from two Ukrainian projects. "Since the beginning of time mankind has been fascinated by Space. In 1961, the technical genius of Soviet scientists proved that man can master the cosmos. But how many people think about the fact that in addition to the celebrations, glory and indescribable feelings, a flight beyond Earth may bring pain, suffering, madness? In our work Ex Vivo (Lat. "from life"), we would like to reveal all the faces of flights, which are not talked about - loneliness, isolation from the usual things, the incredible closeness of death and an endless cold abyss of the universe, which stares at an astronaut. We have tried to convey and express the feelings that a person experiences at start of the machine and to the point where he can no longer distinguish the picture generated by his imagination from reality. The tranquility that ends the album in any case should not be understood as an obituary. It is rather a hymn of praise to the birth of a man who understood and took for himself a place that was defined for him by the universe." Ltd x 500 copies in a clear clamshell case.

JENNIFER GENTLE - 'A New Astronomy' CD (A Silent Place)
Official re-issue of the ultra rare 2005 Sub Pop release (Ltd x 100 copies), now in a digipak. This album is dedicated to Giovanni Paneroni, amateur astronomer and misunderstood genius. "A new astronomy" is probably the most eccentric and out-there JG release to date. Recorded mostly in Marco Fasolo's bedroom on a 4-track cassette machine, the album was conceived as the imaginary soundtrack for some of their most bizarre, vivid dreams - obviously interspersed by the occasional nightmare. It's made by grainy, hallucinated musical scores trying to depict the beautiful, the scary, the annoying and the simply absurd inhabiting dreams. It runs the gamut from ghostly ambient drones to brain-damaged acoustic sketches, covering everything in between - furious guitar freak-outs and a homage to British 60's producer Joe Meek included.

KARL BOSMANN feat. JAN VAN DEN DOBBELSTEEN / ULTRA MILKMAIDS / HIROSHI HASEGAWA - 'Levoton - RED / BLACK MARBLED' LP (Psych.KG)
"The original on one side and the remixes on the other side. Karl Bösmann plays zither, bows, voice, hammer, ventillation, timpani, trumpet and trombone in the twenty minute title piece. I usually quite like his work and this new piece is no different. It seems to creating a hiatus with his older work in that it all seems to be derived from acoustic sound sources, rather than electronics. Its slowly building up, layer by layer and from a certain point on a moire like effect takes place, of shifting sounds, moving in and out of the mix. A fine complexity of dense sounds arrives and has a weird, almost avant-folk like character. The first remix is by Jan van den Dobbelsteen, The Netherlands' more conceptual composer. I have no idea what he did to the material, but 'radical rework' surely applies here. A static beep, like an alarm clock, repeated over and over. Ultra Milkmaids also do a form of reduction but in a more musical way, bringing everything down to just a few meandering organ like sounds. Hiroshi Hasegawa (Astro), on the other hand does what he does best, which is putting down a fine psychedelic mix of noise like sounds. Three entirely different remixes, none of which resembles the original at all. Now that's what I call a great remix project" (Vital Weekly). MAURIZIO BIANCHI - 'Hibernum' CD (EE Tapes)
New work by the Italian Industrial legend. "A marginal division of the whole existence in four palpable seasons, marked by pestilential changes in emotional hemisphere. Seasonal differences in the reformistic exposure turn on the climatic sounds for a thermostatic solstice while modular equinoxes transit along the nodulous diagram of astronomical devices. Usually considered as ephemeral like consciousness neurectomy which includes a mixture of chronological elements. The principle of living originates from electric sources of materialistic disturbances for unequivocal substances. NICK CASTRO & THE POISON TREE - 'Further From Grace' CD (Strange Attractors Audio House)
"Further From Grace" bewitches with an intoxicating mood sustained throughout. The instrumentation is lush and exotic - flugelhorn, lap dulcimer and mijwiz are deftly melded into a pan-cultural elixir comprised of American and British folk traditions, classical balladry and Middle Eastern. Masterful songwriting, ornamented by Castro's ardent vocals and dreamlike lyrics, are relieved by hypnotic instrumental passages. Induced by flourishes of psychedelic 60's folk bards like Tom Rapp (Pearls Before Swine) and Bert Jansch, laced with flashes of Amon Düül-like acoustic communal atmosphere, "Further From Grace" is an acid-folk masterpiece advancing today's sound into sparkling new frontiers.
NICK CASTRO & THE YOUNG ELDERS - 'Come Into Our House' CD (Strange Attractors Audio House)
Gracefully immersing 60's/70's UK acid balladry with Middle eastern traditional music and communal jams, Castro succeeds in reaching otherworldly vistas and ocean-spanning folk transcendence. The Young Elders is a truly stellar cast of musicians who played in folk and avantrock ensembles like Current 93 (Joolie Wood), In Gowan Ring (B'Eirth), Cul De Sac and Damo Suzuki's Network. A mixture of folk ballads, psychedelic folk rock, Middle eastern traditional music and Neofolk. The result being astonishing, challenging and utterly psychedelic. A modern Acid Folk masterpiece! Beautifully presented in a 6-panel digipak with gold print.

SCOTT HULL - 'Audiofilm 2' 3" CD (Crucial Blast)
Scott Hull (Pig Destroyer, Agoraphobic Nosebleed) has been gradually revealing another side of his musical persona over the past few years; an obsession with cinematic soundscaping and dark evocative film scores, mutant electronic textures and pitch-black isolationism. On this second Audiofilm 3" CD, Scott creates a much more frantic and energetic soundscape, this one alive with minimal bass-shuddering pulses and tone manipulations, layered swarms of insectile electronic chitter, swells of shadowy ambience, brain-melting plasma blasts, and vast tectonic drones. A brief but amazing dose of abstract dark ambient/noise that will appeal to fans of Bastard Noise, Astro, and freaked-out 70's sci-fi synth soundtracks. Ltd x 1000 copies in a mini gatefold sleeve with artwork from Seldon Hunt.

THE PSYCHOGEOGRAPHICAL COMMISSION - 'Patient Zero' CD (Acrobiotic Records)
This album is an attempt to psychologically portray the mind of a Patient Zero, wandering through their urban surroundings infected with the solar downturn at the Summer Solstice and tracking the advancement of symptoms as the sun goes from the height of its earthly power to its astronomical nadir. Feelings of old are transformed as the autumn progresses, infecting others and feeding back into the shared experience, changing perceptions and projecting a new reality as signifiers take on different and separate meanings. Written throughout the six month period at times of lunar or solar significance and in multiple locations across the UK, each song portrays a thought, experience or mood of the time and place of its conception. A true and faithful relation of the Sun's dark passenger. "Fans of Coil and Nurse with Wound may stumble upon a familiar brilliance here..." (Zero Tolerance). Slimline DVD case with insert.
