These songs were recorded live to a 1940's Webster Wire Recorder. Wire recorders were originally invented in the late 1800's and recorded sound to a hair-thin strand of stainless steel wire. This was the predecessor to magnetic tape as a recording medium. The wire is extremely fragile and fickle, and the machine itself adds certain audio elements to the recording; pitch shifts, bleed over from previous recordings on the reused wire, a clanking sound from the cylinders turning, tonal colorings and distortions, etc. These elements very much colour and contribute to the recordings. Therefore, this record is considered a 'collaboration' between the artists and this antiquated machine. Ghostly and disconcerting but also uplifting... a unqiue record. Ltd x 600 copies on grey marbled vinyl, with a different design per record label (200 of each - this is the altvinyl edition) plus an insert. Highly recommended!

Sirius is the canine planet, the brightest star of the northern sky. Known since the ancient times, it has left an imprint on forming outlooks, beliefs, religious centres in many cultures. Even the ancient Egyptians worshipped Sirius as a deity, built their calendar on Sirius' cycle closely connected to the Nile tides before the summer solstice. In the 20th century the interest in the magical aspect of Sirius did not die out. Thanks to the Discordian groups with R.A. Wilson (the great philosopher to whom the compilation is dedicated) and T. Aidan Baker steals the show on this album. Even with his esteemed catalogue of ethereal ambience and doomdronedirge excursions, "One Step Ahead, One Step Behind" is pretty exceptional. A desolate guitar melody repeats throughout the entire track, alluding to the doom of Nadja had he kicked on the distortion pedals. But without, there's a sadness which permeates the track, accompanied by ghostly flickers of complimentary drones, bursts of static, and a slow-burning roar of distant distortion that eventually consumes the entire piece. It seems as though 'Willow's Song' (from "The Wicker Man" soundtrack) has made an impact on everyone who's heard it. All these years on, it still has a sense of the uncanny about it. The title song appears here in its original instrumental version, as performed by the band Magnet, and the remainder of this album is a selection of vintage recordings and traditional Folk songs that inspired the music featured on the film's soundtrack. It's worth remembering that while the music of "The Wicker Man" is often credited with having heavily influenced the various psychedelic folk revivals that have taken place since the '70s, those songs were written by New Yorker Paul Giovanni, and are far from the authentic Pagan tracts they've so often passed for. This Finders Keepers album goes some way toward reconnecting the film with the traditional material that inspired its legendary score, and includes children's rhymes like 'Baa Baa Black Sheep' and 'Oranges and Lemons' sung with dulcimer accompaniment. You'll also notice appearances of medieval composition 'Miri It Is' and a 1960 recording of Child Ballad 'Willy O' Winsbury', both of which were modified and adapted for the soundtrack recordings. Available for the first time on DVD! This is the deluxe DVD/CD reissue of the cult 1984 German film featuring William S. Burroughs, Genesis P-Orridge (Throbbing Gristle, Psychic TV), F.M. Einheit (Einstürzende Neubauten), Christiane F, the prolific underground film star Bill Rice. The DVD features include a beautiful colour-rich transfer of the film with newly translated English subtitles, the original trailer, a slide show of 75 still production photos by Ilse Ruppert, a documentary on the Italian 'Decoder Collective', a 46-minute audio interview with filmmaker Klaus Maeck, rare footage of Derek Jarman filming Burroughs on set, and Berlin riot news footage used in the film with a music loop by Genesis P-Orridge commissioned specially for this DVD release. The soundtrack CD features Soft Cell, early Einstürzende Neubauten, Matt Johnson (The The), Dave Ball and Genesis P-Orridge, and William Burroughs. A lot of the music on the CD is not in the film and vice versa. NTSC, Region 0 (also plays on PAL DVD players), full screen format. 87 minutes.
