TenHornedBeast’s third album for Cold Spring was recorded from 2006-2009. This album introduces subtle changes to the established THB sound with delicate interludes separating longer tracks that rage with heavy distortion and doom-drone barbarism. “Hunts & Wars” progresses the established THB sound using leaden, sub-tuned bass guitar to create rhythms and riffs that dominate a battlefield of vast ritual percussion and droning walls of electric dissonance, creating epic and expansive textures that by turns burn with frost and freeze with fire. Influenced by the oneiric visions of Robert E Howard and Lord Dunsany. "Hunts & Wars” seeks to evoke the elemental, anti-modern fantasias of these writers and is presented in a 6-panel digipak designed by graphic designer Kevin Yuen (Sunn O))), Wolves In The Throne Room) to its full grotesque glory.
The days have come when the steel will rule. Titans arise, monuments fall. Ballads of victory and defeat are sung aloud as from the highest steps we are swept on to the eternal Hunts and Wars.

The tracks on "Daas" have been carefully picked to form a provoking, haunting journey. What the tracks have in common is a sense of nostalgic graininess. On a Friday in September many years ago 3 girls went into a large forest in northern Germany. They never returned. Apoptose followed their path into the woods and listened closely to the voices whispering among the trees. "Bannwald" reflects the girls' journey to a realm of witchcraft, fairy-tales and ancient goddesses. Here in the green twilight of rustling leafs and crackling twigs nothing is as it seems and reality is covered by a thick layer of autumn foliage. The term "Bannwald" bears a double meaning: On one hand it stands for a protected woodland where nobody is allowed to cut trees or even to enter. Basically I was lonely but I knew I could record some unconventional sound. I made samples of everything in my cell: metal bed, sink, plates, A/C, wood floor, guards… everything that surrounded me. When I got out, I had a picture of what I would do with the recordings. The Haters are a noise music and conceptual art troupe from the United States. Founded in 1979, they are one of the earliest and best-known acts in the modern noise scene. The first vinyl release of the enchanting Polish act Artefactum. Described by herself as "Female Esoterica", "Sub Rosa" opens a vast space filled with different sounds coming from very far away, as nebulous melodies, whispers, voices and choirs, little clicks and cracks, with soft percussive structures appearing on Side B. The two pieces named "Rosa Alba" and "Rosa Rubea" (white & red rose) have a strong metaphorical alchemistic background, meaning the end point of all alchemistic transmutations. The overall release including the beautiful artwork gives the impression of an almost fabulous acoustic fantasy, so refined and almost caressing yet secretive at the same time. This album, dedicated to Austin Osman Spare, includes 60 minutes of pure magickal sounds, conceived by Different State and Sigill. Each of them represents a slightly different approach, although they are both connected by mystical, alchemical, ritual characteristics. Marchoff (Different State) describes his music as alchembient - a mix of illbient, a great deal of alchemical incantations and moans. Sigill is a project consisting of Brat Salo and Nantur; a duo creating electronic lunar spaces and astral soundscapes using samples and ancient instruments. "Age of 369" was originally released on cassette in 1984. The lesser known "Chant 2" is also from this period and complements the sonic intensity of the other. Of further importance is the influence of Maurizio Bianchi (MB) and the mail art that was integral to the industrial underground. These reissues document significant works from Japan's Noise master. Made with a cheap tape recorder and a lot of tape loops, which were then manipulated by hand. "Lowest Music 2" was a very early example of that. Then Merzbow mixed more tape loops with more harsh noise. "Age of 369" (Mlroku No Yo) and "Chant 2" are the finest early examples of that. The Japanese title of "Age of 369" was inspired by the Omoto Cult, founded by Onisabura Degughi. The double CD re-release of "Age of 369" (miroku No Yo) and Chant 2" combines both the music and the Mail Art of this period and is a fitting document of Merzbow In 1984. Australian import. Available for the first time on DVD! This is the deluxe DVD/CD reissue of the cult 1984 German film featuring William S. Burroughs, Genesis P-Orridge (Throbbing Gristle, Psychic TV), F.M. Einheit (Einstürzende Neubauten), Christiane F, the prolific underground film star Bill Rice. The DVD features include a beautiful colour-rich transfer of the film with newly translated English subtitles, the original trailer, a slide show of 75 still production photos by Ilse Ruppert, a documentary on the Italian 'Decoder Collective', a 46-minute audio interview with filmmaker Klaus Maeck, rare footage of Derek Jarman filming Burroughs on set, and Berlin riot news footage used in the film with a music loop by Genesis P-Orridge commissioned specially for this DVD release. The soundtrack CD features Soft Cell, early Einstürzende Neubauten, Matt Johnson (The The), Dave Ball and Genesis P-Orridge, and William Burroughs. A lot of the music on the CD is not in the film and vice versa. NTSC, Region 0 (also plays on PAL DVD players), full screen format. 87 minutes. |
