Two tracks from early cassette releases. Side A is an alternative version of "Terrain" by Jackman and Sanderson, originally released on the "0 Degrees North" cassette (Aeroplane 1982). With Jackman overdubbing low guttural growls on a steel strung cello and Sanderson programming coffee-percolation on a drum machine, "Terrain" is a lo-fi production that finds its companions in the work of Throbbing Gristle, Hunting Lodge, and the Broken Flag camp of noise. Side B is a solo piece by Jackman, originally released on the 'Adrift' cassette (Snatch Tapes 1981). It is similarly lo-fi with a hypnotic loop of a monochromatic guitar topped with clanging metals and samples from orchestral swells, which have been drained of all colour and replaced with a swampy din. Noise Maker's Fifes is an experimental performance group from Brussels. The first side of "Zona Incerta" is based on the choreography "Dyonisos' Last Day" from 2003 and uses material from various live performances. The second side is created from insect field recordings made in Kenya. "Zona Incerta" builds a hazy and foggy dimension.. sounds ebb and flow in and out... water and metal-sounds are recognisable in the sound-field, high insect-frequencies intertwine with all kinds of strange noises and animal sounds. Between 1992-1995 VOE released three albums with their unique style combining ethnic, ritualistic and folklore influences in an experimental and highly organic way to create a kind of transcendental drone ambience, using only "real" instruments and self-built devices and an array of electronic effects. These 3 tracks (39 mins) of new material are inspired by the wisdom of Buddhist / Advaitic meditation and philosophy, and are based on ethereal vocal material, flute-sounds and their self-built string-instruments, full of yearning and beauty. Brand new material by this cult project from the US, working with deep e-bass sounds to create an isolationist mass of darkest cosmic ambience, a kind of "black hole" ur-drone. When you put this on you are immediately touched by the cold breath of an amorph "otherness". This sound is so monumental and complex that it seems to suspend not only the mind but also the physis, and you experience intensely that both are the same anyway. There's something in this music that lets you really shiver and feel levitated at the same time. Gloriously, the self is dissolving.
