Through an element darkly… In the fall of 2005 Z’EV began dipping deep into his archives and selecting recordings to produce ‘sum things / a possible form for cold dark matter’, a project reflecting his take on the ‘dark ambience’ genre. Composed between December 2005 and March 2006, these 6 pieces endeavour to transport the listener deep into their long forgotten memories of the primal forces at the dawn of creation. Each piece is based on a single sound source. Absolutely no effects of any kind, not even equalization, were applied to the source recordings. Instead Z’EV relied solely on the stretching of the duration and pitch of the samples and then edited and mixed the results down into the heart of space. Hear then, the state of the art in elemental musics. Not to forget the beautiful packaging by artist Abby Helasdottir.

"[Eric Cordier] plays six lengthy pieces with this limited material, but cranks out some beautiful material with it. Of course the crackling vinyl plays an important role, but throughout there is a great sense of peace and warmness in these recordings. Everything moves solemnly and slowly around, and makes a hotbed of ambient sounding material, but albeit an ambience of a highly original kind. This LP seems to come from the good old and lost hand-made "Industrial" world. The sounds on the vinyl are for a good part slow-moving re-worked and re-processed concrete sounds from different sources such as metal / concrete / water and other organic materials. The disc ends with a massive old school industrial attack. In a few words: a step back to good old industrial productions. Frédéric Nogray diverts his rock crystal crucibles from their usual function in the silicon industry to generate tactile music, a music that succeeds as much in making the listener's intellect wander as it does in moving the material itself. Although entirely acoustic, this music is powerful, the different-sized bowls being generators of distinct waves operating in the range of frequencies from infra- to ultrasonic. Because of their superimposition and the acoustics of the space they are in, chimeras or interferences are born. "Voices From Thelema" is an action of instrumental transcommunication with short wave receivers. It was realised inside the ruins of Thelema Abbey, Cefalù, Sicily - founded by Aleister Crowley in 1920. K11 is a project of Italian sound / installation artist Pietro Riparbelli that deals with the world of radio signals, trans-communication and other invisible phenomena, to create a dimension where the only sound sources are signals from shortwave radio receivers. The production is brutal and raw... sometimes pierced by electronic effects. There is an addictive phenomenon introduced by repetitive assaults, hammered in bolts. TenHornedBeast is the dark vision of Christopher Walton, part of the much feted Endvra, masters of 90s dark and occult ambient. 'Law Of The Needle', clocking in at over 28 minutes, is an oppressive opus of doomed drone, both monolithic and multifaceted. Marzuraan contribute 13 minutes of narcotic guitar haze. Their previous gruff metal grunts have been replaced by a subdued, almost crushed vocal. This is epic, like a bassier, looser, Mogadon dosed JESU with a man past caring roped in to give his thoughts on where its all gone wrong. Printed on heavy textured card and with 2 die cut runes. "Purification" is the re-issue of Raymond P.‘s first album (1999, Black Rain). This edition comes remastered and in all new artwork. Folk Rock from Oregon. At the foundation of "Sewn In Seems" is everything you would expect from Jason Merritt (aka Whip); wonderfully raw front-porch singing and acoustic guitar. Normally Merritt ends there, letting the simplisty and naked beauty of the songs speak for themselves. However, with "Sewn in Seems," he has taken the song to a whole new level. Besides the addition of standing bass and piano, Merritt has added a lot of atmosphere to the song by his playing of some mellow flutes, wine glasses and manipulated tea kettles. The end result is spectacular.
