GNOD / A MIDDLE SEX - 'Split' LP (Blackest Rainbow)
Split LP from fellow Manchester weirdos A Middle Sex and Gnod. Gnod follow on from some killer releases over the last couple of years, with Bong, White Hills etc. 'Why Don't You Smile Like The Other Children?' opens with hazy strings and cosmicly far out voices, this slow groove packs a multi-coloured burst of rhythmic psychedelic vibes. On the flip side, A Middle Sex take up duties of doing some equally psychedelic, but in a completely different style. Their side is titled 'Polytheism' and is essentially made up of two tracks, the opener is a short wild spaced out cosmic synth piece, which is swiftly followed by a main 10 minute piece of layered drums and percussion, swirling electronics, distorted chanted vocals. Their side is all about the rhythm. Pressed on 140 gram virgin vinyl. Ltd x 500 copies.

HINTERGEDANKEN - 'Hintergedanken' CD (Barbarian Records)
Prog / Psych-Rock wizardry from metaphysical media gurus Karen Eliot and Clay Ruby. Their message for the faithless faithful takes the form of an infinitely cosmic psych / prog beast, much in the vein of '60's private press killers such as Yahowa 13 and Frolk Haven. Hintergedanken spews non-local quantum froth from the far realms of Zothyria, which blows over the quivering cadavers of their sacred zombie prostitutes used in the eerie twilight rituals of the forbidden bongload. Digipak.

ORGANUM - 'Die Hennen Zahne' 3" CD (Die Stadt)
A four track mini CD combining the never released two 10" vinyl 'Maus' and 'Die Hennen Zähne'. 'Die Hennen Zähne' opens with 'Die Kralle', actually a David Jackman track from his archive, recorded in the early 1980's. Next is the title track 'Die Hennen Zähne', a joyful noise not unlike some of the The New Blockaders / Organum material including the sound of broken glass and tibetan horns. 'Maus' is the centre piece of this mini album and typical 'old school' Organum. The album closes with the more quiet and haunting 'Kazi', a live improvisation featuring collaborator's Michael Prime and Emma O'Bong. Nice lttle 3" digipak. Ltd x 600 copies.

Waz is an active member of the Newcastle underground noise scene and collaborator with Bong and Culver amongst others and credited as 'Sound Purifier' on Bong's "Gilgamesh Lives" album. Two epic tracks (31:16 and 22:58) from the North East's premier master or throbbing drone, with elements of Doom and Psych-Prog-Rock. Reminiscent Kevin Drumm's recent Drone work. The 2nd album from French deathtronix duo Whourkr is a whirlwind of electronically processed and treated avant-death/grind that is as violent and brutal as it is complex and obsessively constructed, relying as much on samplers and software as it does on bonecrushing riffs, screaming and hyperspeed blastbeats. Following a similar strategy as James Plotkin's post-production grind experiments on the first Phantomsmasher album, all of the guitars, drums, and vocals are arranged and recorded by Whourkr and then run through a gauntlet of hardcore editing and remixing. Total chaos deathgrind filtered through a futuristic cuisinart of ultra-aggressive electronica, like a freaked-out epileptic mashup of Atari Teenage Riot, Dying Fetus, Agoraphobic Nosebleed, Venetian Snares, Blut Aus Nord, and John Zorn. Akin to Drumcorps, Bong-Ra, Dataclast, Noism, Agoraphobic Nosebleed, Reptiljan, Mulk and DHR. Digipak.
