SOL INVICTUS - 'The Devil's Steed' CD (Dark Vinyl)
Sol Invictus's first outing on Dark Vinyl is a nod back in the direction to a more earthy folk sound. Taken from Russian folklore the title track "Steeds For The Devil" concerns suicide, while there are the usual happy Tony Wakeford songs. Two traditional songs get the Sol Invictus treatment - "Twa Corbies" and "Three Knights Came from the West". Philip Larkin's poem "The North Ship" also becomes the basis for one song. Artwork on this release is from Tor Lundvall, with the first Limited edition coming in a 6 panel luxury digipak.

"Ghost Years" is my first retrospective CD featuring tracks from various compilations, vinyl-only releases plus some unreleased material. The focus is more on my vocal work, however there are a few instrumental pieces included as well. Although the music spans about a decade, I was surprised at how well the tracks flow together to make a coherent ensemble, evolving from my earlier song-oriented compositions to the more ambient nature of my recent recordings. Tor Lundvall's unheard album of ghost ambience! Dark and beautiful soundtracks for afternoon daydreams and moonlit forest strolls. "'Sleeping And Hiding' was recorded in what seemed like the blink of an eye during the Spring of 2005 and then shelved while I concentrated on other projects. I originally intended this album to be the third and final chapter in the series which also included "Last Light" and "Empty City". Listening to it now, however, I feel this album stands alone in it's own unique space. Musically, it's an entirely vocal effort and somewhat more song oriented than my previous releases. Several of the tracks were inspired by evening drives through the woods, watching the copper-pink sunlight reflecting off bright yellow-green blossoms... The final track 'Sleeping' manages to conjure up the precise atmosphere of one of my earliest childhood memories: Lying in bed during a bright afternoon as the strange sounds outside lulled me to sleep."
