ANDREW LILES JOINS SEHNSUCHT
Experimental musician ANDREW LILES (Nurse With Wound, The Vortex Vault, Current 93) has joined forces with Black Metal icon MANIAC (Skitliv, Bomberos, ex-Mayhem) , to work together on SEHNSUCHT, the ambient/noise project set up by the vocalist following his departure from MAYHEM. Originally a three-piece, comprising MANIAC’s fiancée, GALLHAMMER’s VIVIAN SLAUGHTER, on bass and saxophone, and SKITLIV guitarist Ingvar Magnusson, LILES will be handling FX and electronics, and working together with MANIAC on the sound design. Sehnsucht's debut will be released on COLD SPRING later in the year.

The eighth Bass Communion full-length is the first to feature the results of Steven Wilson's new take on the project. Adding a laptop and software tools to the formerly pure guitar and effects line-up, the change can primarily be felt in terms of composition and in even more refined techniques and fluent, non-repetitive thematic evolutions. Still loosely connected to styles like drones and ambient, it defines a unique perspective devoid of any narrow genre limitations. Composed of four tracks, all of which extend comfortably beyond the ten minute mark, "Molotov And Haze" is conceptually a bipolar album: tranquil and immersive soundscapes take turns with crunching fields of noise brimming with oscillating overtones and aggressive low-end frequencies, creating a hypnotic sequence of suspense and release. The vinyl edition considerably deepens the pulsating riverbed carved out by the CD versions (Important Records 2008), presenting expanded edits of "Molotov 1502" and "Haze 1402". The first and limited edition of 500 copies ina gatefold sleeve, and pressed on 180 grams vinyl, includes an exclusive, limited 10" version of the 3" cd "Haze Shrapnel", that will not be available separately. The Neofolk outfit Bloody Woods (aka Bai Shui) from Sichuan, China has finally completed the first (and maybe their last) full-length album. More percussion elements are added here, plus more dark and obscure Middle Eastern musical elements that give a ritualistic feeling. The three tracks on the fifth and final edition comes wrapped in layers of distortion at once atmospheric and damaging. Tim Hecker's take on the title track is a slow thaw of icy electronic texture, and the Nadja remix of "I Won't Come Back Alive" stretches it out to fifteen minutes of buried drum hits and chilly synths. Intimate, absurd, feral and aggressive in its homemade weirdness, the music of Kommissar Hjuler & Mama Bär has been a well-kept secret for too long. Hjuler & Bär have self-published their dada-esque sound poetry experiments on small-edition lathe-cut LPs, tapes and other limited formats for years. This is a collection their best recordings to date. The husband and wife duo uses deceptively simple means - typically just their voices, a cassette-tape recorder and a microphone - to create astonishing suburban dramas that are somehow both sweetly charming and staggeringly psychotic, sometimes simultaneously.

This album is the Laibachian interpretation of Johann Sebastian Bach's work The Art of Fugue (Die Kunst der Fuge). The majority of the material was created in 2006 and performed the same year on 1st June at Bachfest in Leipzig. Since the work is very much based on mathematical algorithms, Laibach decided to use computer and computer program as the key "instrument", providing a very special electronic interpretation and showing that J.S. Bach with his work could as well be understood as the pioneer of electronic, techno, computer music. Digipak.

Orn are a new three piece doom metal band from Toronto, one drummer, two guitarists and a wall of amplifiers. Orn's doom is heaving and raw, the drone is delivered in snarling unapologetic straight shots. The intensity is built up and torn down with minimal structures with guttural screams, sustaining guitars and punishing insistent rhythms. A miasma of guitar feedback, junk percussion and a near endless torrent of abstract epithets. Radioactive Prostitute also appears on several Thomas Nöla Et Son Orchestre releases , including "The Doctor O.S.T." (with Douglas P. / Death In June). Scott Hull (Pig Destroyer, Agoraphobic Nosebleed) has been gradually revealing another side of his musical persona over the past few years; an obsession with cinematic soundscaping and dark evocative film scores, mutant electronic textures and pitch-black isolationism. This first part of the Audiofilm Series is a terrifying fug of demonic drone that utilises stereo panning and slabs of obsidian ambience, slowly unfolding over the length of the piece to reveal layers of malevolent black drone and unsettling voices, seemingly lost between planes of shadow. "Songs of Remorse" is the debut album from Italy's Stroszek, who play dark melancholic doom / emotional acoustic music. Stroszek comes from the Werner Herzog film of the same name and is the perfect moniker for a band with such a gloomy atmosphere. Tor Lundvall's unheard album of ghost ambience! Dark and beautiful soundtracks for afternoon daydreams and moonlit forest strolls. "'Sleeping And Hiding' was recorded in what seemed like the blink of an eye during the Spring of 2005 and then shelved while I concentrated on other projects. I originally intended this album to be the third and final chapter in the series which also included "Last Light" and "Empty City". Listening to it now, however, I feel this album stands alone in it's own unique space. Musically, it's an entirely vocal effort and somewhat more song oriented than my previous releases. Several of the tracks were inspired by evening drives through the woods, watching the copper-pink sunlight reflecting off bright yellow-green blossoms... The final track 'Sleeping' manages to conjure up the precise atmosphere of one of my earliest childhood memories: Lying in bed during a bright afternoon as the strange sounds outside lulled me to sleep." Whisper Room is a trio based in Toronto, Canada and Berlin, Germany featuring Aidan Baker (Nadja), Neil Wiernik (NAW) and Jakob Thiesen (Students). These three creative minds had moved in similar musical circles in Toronto and Montreal for years sporadically sharing stages but did not actively come together to play as a trio until Dec 2006. Since then they have worked as a improv unit and combined their disparate musical backgrounds to create music which explores the conjunction of electronic rhythms and textures with the pulsations and psychedelics and shoegaze and krautrock music.
