Aidan Baker AIDAN BAKER - 'Broken & Remade' CD (Volubilis Records)

This new record is quite a step forward for Aidan Baker and his myriad of releases. Think round about Fennesz melded with the Boards Of Canada / Warp Records jazz style and you're getting close. A bunch of small samples of analogue instruments (guitars, bass, flute, voice drums, trumpet, and violin) spliced and clipped together to form these compositions. Beautiful, hypnotic and totally unlike his previous work in either Nadja or Arc. Digipak, ltd x 1000.

Fear Falls Burning FEAR FALLS BURNING & NADJA - 'Fear Falls Burning & Nadja' CD (Conspiracy Records)

Nadja is Aidan Baker & Leah Buckareff. This duo creates ambient-drone-doom, combining ambient electronics and fragmentary vocals with snail-crawl, epic riffs & dirge-like percussion. On their first full-length collaboration CD FFB and Nadja display their wilful approach to drones with 4 epic songs, full of sustain, pulses and dynamics. Grand in theme, sound and atmosphere with violent bursts of noise and zones of introspection and harmony. This album draws inspiration from their critically-acclaimed LP "We Have Departed The Circle Blissfully", while pushing the boundaries on their sound as an entity. This album entirely consists of new material. "...this record could turn out to be the high point of both band’s careers!" (Julian Cope). Ltd x 1000, digipak.

Half Makeshift HALF MAKESHIFT - 'L'Anse Amort' CD (20 Buck Spin)

Half Makeshift is the solo project of Pennsylvania's Nathan Michael. L'anse Amort contains four tracks that expand on the density of his debut "Aphotic Leech", creating more space and reflection, more peaks and valleys. The monumental 17 minute opener "Whale Heart" builds from a simple melody and crackling electro-static to eventually collapse under its own weight in a huge Nadja-esque wall of drone riffery, while other tracks are comparable to Bohren Und Der Club Of Gore. "L'anse Amort" is epic in a way most "post-rock" bands can only aspire to. Comes specially packaged in a vertical gatefold with four photographic postcards.

Nadja NADJA - 'Bliss From The Emptiness' CD (Profound Lore Records)

Reissue of the extremely limited (60 copies) release on Fargone Records (2005) from the Toronto duo of Aidan Baker and Leah Buckareff. The original release consisted of just one track. This special re-release has been given the ultimate facelift. Still characteristically (and aesthetically) seen as one long track (here stretched out to more than 51 minutes), this time though broken down into three segments / parts / tracks respectively. This Doom / Dark Ambient / Drone creation was mastered by James Plotkin (Khanate). Presented in a stunning 8-panel digipak with sticker.

Nadja NADJA - 'Corrasion' CD (Foreshadow Productions)

"Corrasion" was originally released back in 2003 as a very limited edition of 200 copies. Due to overwhelming demand, "Corrasion" re-surfaces in 2007 as a CD proper, with Aidan Baker and Leah Buckareff having re-recorded all the tracks in January 2007 giving them new arrangments, a heavier sound and therefore top-notch quality. Flowing and ever-changing soundscapes of massive guitar layers and delicate ambient passages weave a beautiful aural experience of grandiose proportions. "Corrasion" anno domini 2007 is simply one of the best drone / post-rock albums in years! Additionally, the album contains three bonus tracks which originally appeared on a couple compilations and a split release (with MOSS).

Nadja / VinylLP NADJA - 'Touched' 2 x LP (Conspiracy Records)

Originally released on CD by Alien8 in 2007. With "Touched", Nadja (Aidan Baker) have hit the perfect meld of punishing doom / sludge six-string fuzz, endless militant drum machine bludgeon and chest-swelling shoegaze / post-rock / ambient-influenced catharsis. Nadja's brand of doomy ambient metal incorporates beautiful melody into crushing riffs. “Utter and absolute loveliness drenched in a thick patina of crushing heaviness. Impossible but perfect" (Aquarius). Black vinyl edition of 550 copies in a die-cut and embossed sleeve, in full colour inner sleeves, with images by Seldon Hunt.   Nadja / Netherworld NADJA / NETHERWORLD - 'Magma To Ice' CD (Fario)

Talented Italian ambient composer Alessandro Tedeschi runs the Glacial Movements label and plays music as Netherworld. His fascination for polar landscapes and soundscapes makes him close to industrial ambient pioneers such as Thomas Köner, Rapoon, Biosphere and Lull. Icy, windy, droning and deeply 'protomelodic' at once, his music is a poetic translation of the ice floe. Nadja is the drone / doom / ambient duo of Canadian musicians Aidan Baker and Leah Buckareff. Their behemoth of sound is a construction of heat, weight, loop and vapour. Here, they had to break Netherworld's ice and find a way to the red core of Earth. The common track brings heat onto ice, which warms up, crackles and soon melts. As a conclusion, the long piece by Nadja is total heat. This is Nadja 'unrhythmed', which means pure lava. Artwork by Eyelyft.

Servile Sect SERVILE SECT - 'Stratospheric Passenger' CD (Sounds Of Battle & Souvenir Collecting)

"...[a] bizarre, and hauntingly beautiful slab of alien black metal... You can almost picture some mechanical monstrosity, pieces of human flesh, various organs, somehow built into the machine's inner workings, everything grinding and sparking all in a Herculean effort to produce this glorious droning buzzing blackness.... The sound of Servile Sect is epic, and majestic....Fans of the new wave of droned out dreamy metal, black and otherwise: Nadja, Angelic Process, Ameseours, Alcest, etc. will dig this, as will dronelords who like their drones heavy and loud and yeah, a bit metallic... " [Aquarius]. Ltd x 200 copies in a beautiful 6-panel digifile.
