  Atavist / VinylLP ATAVIST - 'II:Ruined' 2 x LP (Aurora Borealis)

Divided into chapters, but works best as one long song, “II:Ruined” is a massive plunge through crawling and pounding vibes of distorted madness, bass-heavy frequencies, methodically played drums, and utterly painful virulent vocals, all filtered through pure unbridled atmosphere and ambience.   Black Boned Angel / VinylLP BLACK BONED ANGEL - 'Verdun' LP (Riot Season)

New Zealand's Black Boned Angel return with their fourth full length release. Sharing a similarly bleak ground to Corrupted, Sunn 0))) and Earth, this is perhaps their most sombre and fully-realised work to date. The Battle of Verdun was fought between the German and French armies, and was one of the critical battles on the Western Front during World War I. It resulted in more than a quarter of a million battlefield deaths and at least half a million wounded. Verdun was the longest battle and one of the most devastating in World War I and indeed in history. Over the course of 50 minutes, BBA soundtrack that brutal conflict with their trademark dark ambient drones and doom-laden riffs. Ltd x 500 copies on black vinyl.

Black Sun / VinylLP BLACK SUN - 'Paralyser' LP (At War With False Noise)

First ever vinyl release from the UK's most pummeling and heavy doom metal band. Black Sun come out of left-field with their most fully-formed body of work thus far: a raging statement of intent that doesn't let up or fail to engage from the opening guttural screams to the final thunderous crash. Swans-esque lessons in harsh rhythmical battery... drone wizardry... post-Neurosis chorus... mid-90s metalcore sound... sub-industrial and pounding, rhythmic monotony. File next to Swans, Godflesh, Sunn O))) etc. Ltd x 500 copies with A3 insert and old-school black & white block artwork.

Corrupted CORRUPTED - 'Paso Inferior' CD (Nostalgia Blackrain)

"Japanese underground icons Corrupted create droning, sludgy, painfully slow death / doom metal and ambient music along the same lines as bands like Earth, Boris, and Sunn O))). Formed in Osaka, Japan, circa 1994, the reclusive group has issued an inordinate number of singles, EPs, split discs, and full-length albums over the years, but always under their own idiosyncratic terms. These include holding anything remotely resembling rock stardom in utter contempt, mysteriously writing all of their lyrics in Spanish, and refusing to even take promo shots, so that the only known images of the group are those snapped by fans at their concerts" (All Music Guide). Originally released in 1997 on CD by Frigidity Discos, this 1-track, 40 minute CD has now been remastered. Ultra heavy, ultra recommended!

Der Blutharsch / VinylLP DER BLUTHARSCH - 'Flying High!' 2 x LP (WKN)

On their ninth studio album Der Blutharsch continues travelling in the direction they took back in 2005, when the former gurus of martial industrial / military pop rocketed towards the deep space of psychedelia. If you think of Sunn O))), Guru Guru, Amon Dül, Tangerine Dream or Godspeed You! Black Emperor you aren't too far away... but still inherent is that familiar apocalyptic feeling. Highly influenced by the American West Coast Sound of the late sixties with a small dose of Krautrock. Here's the line-up: Bain Wolfkind, Albin Julius, Gianni Serusi and Patrick Leagas. Der Blutharsch have mutated into a psychedelic rock monster; their motto, "into new territories!", symbolic for this mutation, a battle fought not by marching but by flying, 'Flying high!'. The DLP is housed in a superb gatefold cover and is limited to 750 copies only.

Gerritt / John Wiese GERRITT & JOHN WIESE - 'The Disappearing Act EP' MCD (Misanthropic Agenda)

It's Wiese - brace yourself. This 20 minute EP sees the noise maverick working with Misanthropic Agenda label boss Gerritt, hardly a shrinking violet himself, having gone head to head with Merzbow, D Yellow Swans and Sunn O))) in the past. 'The Disappearing Act EP' starts out with two short, sharp shocks of mashed-up sound, sudden jolts of electricity and the worrying rush of what sounds like toxic gas escaping from a canister. The final track is one 15 minute fade up of unbearably caustic jet engine whine. It'll have you pinned back in your armchair while your face gets pummelled by its horribly intense power. Digipak.

Half Makeshift HALF MAKESHIFT - 'Omen' CD (Profound Lore Records)

“Omen” is a devastating observation of formidable experimental ambient drone-like subtle mastery. With moments that remind of Nadja, Sunn O))), Godspeed! You Black Emperor and A Silver Mount Zion, “Omen” is an opus of dense and flowing sonic terrain where cinematic sound visions create vast, desperate, and devastating scenarios, almost serving its purpose like a desperate doomsday soundtrack. Working as a 50+ minute track, but separated into four parts, “Omen” subtly shifts through different emotions and moods; soothing and comforting, yet at the same time virulent and uneasy, and ultimately eerie and chilling. The incredible use of melody via light guitar strums and guitar ambience, melded with waves of static bursts and ivory key tappings, create the build-up that will inevitably come in the form of massive drone rumblings. This is the final work of Half Makeshift. Mastered by James Plotkin (Old, Khanate). 6-panel digipak.

KTL KTL - '2' CD (Editions Mego)

KTL is Stephen O'Malley (Sunn O))), Gravetemple, Æthenor, Thorr's Hammer) and Peter Rehberg (PITA). Devastatingly beautiful four part follow up to the acclaimed debut CD recorded in a former abattoir in Angers, as well as a 16th Century manor in the west of France. Taking the blueprint that was laid out on the first record even further, with the ecstatic build up of ‘Theme’, the near psychedelic ‘Abattoir’, and closing with the twisted romanticism of the closing ‘Snow 2’. An upgrade both artistically and emotionally. As with the first CD elements appeared in the finished version of the theatre piece ‘Kindertotenlieder’ by Gisele Vienne and Dennis Cooper, which was premiered in Brest, France, March 2007.   KTL KTL - 'IV' CD (Editions Mego)

The long awaited new album by the ongoing duo of Stephen O'Malley (Sunn O))), Gravetemple) and Peter Rehberg (Pita) is the first full length KTL release that is not commissioned work for theatre or film. Whereas the ‘Kindertotenlieder' trilogy of 1, 2 and 3 were blurred washes of fog and noise polished in by ambient shine, "IV" is a more direct and demanding beast, referencing such diverse projects as; volume era Swans, Mecca period Cabaret Voltaire, phase one Wire, Fushitsusha and This Heat... "IV" is a stunning new direction and great addition to both artists' already impressive canon, with blowtorch riffs... sub bass rumbles... driving bass pulse interwoven with razor sharp guitar... arhythmic and punishing drumming (courtesy of Atsuo, from Japanese top-rockers Boris)... black frozen resonant harmonics. Produced by Jim O'Rourke. Highly recommended!

KTL KTL - 'KTL' CD (Editions Mego)

Threatening new collaboration taking in parallel worlds of Extreme Computer Music and Black Metal. KTL is Stephen O'Malley (Sunn O))), Gravetemple, Æthenor, Thorr's Hammer) and Peter Rehberg (PITA). A six part collision amongst the increasingly fading presences between the light and the dark. This work came about as the two were composing sound and music for a piece by Gisèle Vienne and Dennis Cooper, entitled 'Kindertotenlieder'. This CD is NOT the soundtrack to said piece, but a separate project. However, elements may appear in the finished piece which is to be premiered in Brest, France, March 2007. Pieces were recorded in a resistance fortress in southern France during a thunderstorm. Others in a wintergarden drenched in the sunlight.
