Reissue of Amocoma's rare demo release, remastered with 2 bonus tracks. Amocoma traffic in an ultra lo-fi, muddy murky blackness. It's definitely black metal, but at the same time it's sort of stumbling and noise rocky - all rendered nearly indistinct by the incredibly FX drenched lo-fi production. Dreamy swirls of soft focus harmonics and distant rumbles... hypnotic looped riffs... mechanical and repetitive drums.... howled and reverbed vocals. The more you listen, the more pretty it sounds. Sure it's raw and harsh, but the melody is so hypnotic, and the swirling clouds of distortion and reverb give everything a sort of soft focus shimmer.

The two lengthy tracks of "Altarwise" were recorded in late 2004 and remastered early 2009. The first track is a 30-minute experimental work that gradually moves through a wide range of sounds (echoing chimes, mysterious noises, subdued clanking, drones). The second piece is an epic 46-minute composition of deep ambient/drone music that manages to float freely through the listener's imagination while keeping his attention. While many modern day experimentalists have moved into the computer realm, Birds of Tin has remained true to the experimental sound of tape loops, lo-fi samplers, and collections of unique toy instruments running through small fx boxes. BURMESE - 'A Mere Shadow And Reminiscence Of Humanity' CD (Tumult)

Now with an extra drummer and a renewed, dangerously unhealthy obsession with Whitehouse, Burmese have slowed things down a bit. Gone are the hyperspeed blast beats and in their place are midtempo dirges, stumbling drunkenly through nihilistic, grinding sludge, spewing bile and ultraviolence. Pounding militaristic beats demarcate vast expanses of throbbing feedback, guttural growls, tarpit washes of bowel loosening low-end and 16 rpm grindcore. Things do speed up occasionally into blurry bursts of static and skree, but even then, they eventually devolve back into some sort of primordial and glacial caveman stomp, all murky thud and swampy roar, thick and suffocating and massively heavy. Grinding and pounding. Relentless and brutal.

This release gathers recordings for a session at WFMU, recorded during their second US tour and captured live on the 25th September 2007. Spread over the four sides are the six cuts which made up Circle’s second session for WFMU, once more capturing the self-proclaimed New Wave of Finnish Heavy Metal outfit proving themselves to be almost everything but ‘Heavy Metal’ despite possessing the only too apparent ability to compete with the best amongst that world. Taking in operatic vocals, unearthly mulch, psychedelic splurge, nods towards folk and krautrock, and mammoth riffs capable of knocking down nearby buildings, avant-rock has rarely arrived both so potent and in dire need of a straitjacket before. KAWABATA MAKOTO - 'The Tales Of The Dream Planet' CD (Housepig)

The mastermind behind Acid Mothers Temple (and a zillion other projects) parked his spaceship long enough to fish this CD out of his beard and give it to Housepig, before closing the hatch and rocketing back into the stratosphere. What he brought back from the Dream Planet is two tracks of long, overlapping guitar drones; glacially melodic, meditative and a touch otherworldly. For the past four years, Chicago's Locrian have been recording their unique and haunting brand of experimental music. Their first LP "Greyfield Shrines", was recorded live on WHPK in late 2007. The music is dense and enveloping, with mysterious drones and arcane melodies flowing throughout the ominous work. The piece climaxes on the B side as the modulated feedback surges. MEZIRE - 'Corrosion Effects' CD (Rustblade / Zero01one) - £10.50 / £11.50 / £12.50
An extreme and balanced mix of power electronics, industrial and dark electro from this German band. "Mezire is a good example of a band that has seriously evolved in sound throughout the years. While they started in the 90s with a rather electronic-orientated sound they progressively evolved towards more industrial ideas. "Corrosion Effect" goes a step further, touching the border of pure noise. There are still a few industrial elements running through their work, but generally speaking this album sounds like an ambient wall of noise. The originality probably resists in the use of vocals, which give it a more human aspect. This is a more accessible noise release however it remains pretty extreme!" (Side-Line)

"Tocasen", Moth Electret's second record - after the debut "Lil" on Mystery Sea (2007) - is an engaging and intense hour-long work of experimental ambient music. The debut album of Russian experimental post-rock group Osoka, based in Rostov-on-Don. Their sound draws from influences ranging from sludge and doom metal, with stoner rock background to dark ambient and industrial music on the other pole. The band's inspirations are Cult of Luna, Neurosis, Isis, Meatjack, Khanate, Nadja, Sunn O))), Halo. "Caustic Smoke" is one expanded track, 45 minutes long, slow, repetitive and crushing, with heavy sections of distorted guitars often interspersed with dark ambient and industrial interludes. "Electric Butterfly" came into being when the unique vocalist and songwriter Sally Doherty began working with the musician and producer Colin Elliot. The 50-minute album includes guest musicians Richard Hawley, Shez Sheridan and Liz Hanks.  The cool left-field pop sound of "Electric Butterfly" reveals glimpses of Sally’s life-long passion for French chanson, South American bolero and the songs of Jacques Brel and Scott Walker, her love of incredible singers such as Peruvian princess Yma Sumac and the smooth and seductive Chet Baker. Daniel Padden’s The One Ensemble began as a solo project and quickly morphed into a quartet with the recruitment of Chris Hladowski, Aby Vulliamy and Peter Nicholson. With Padden’s leadership, they developed a curious and strident brew of Eastern European folk, chamber music, a pinch of Robert Wyatt and some kind of earthy psychedelic primitivism. "...the range on display here is much wider than the typical gypsy / folk-aligned forms on prior one ensemble output ; the beefed-up instrumentation lends an almost Dmitri Tiomkin-ian flair with the massed choir & strings resonating strongly with each other as the band runs through takes ranging from minimal, gestural improv(s) to full-band drones and lurching, sea-shanty lineage ditties... awesome" (Mimaroglu).

VARGHKOGHARGASMAL - 'Drowned In Lakes' CD (Tumult) - £10.50 / £11.50 / £12.50
This one-man German act creates a difficult sound to describe... The vocals are minimal, a hushed whisper here and there, a Viking style chant during one song, but it's mostly left to the music, which is incredibly evocative, it's like some sort of acoustic black metal, mixed with slowed down surf rock, dark languorous krautrock, and a distinct Morricone vibe too. Most of the songs creep and crawl, sometimes behind a curtain of rainfall, the sound of the forest spirits, flickering firelight, fireflies lighting up the canopy overhead. Pianos pick out mournful melodies, the drums, lurching along, a perfectly imperfect accompaniment, organs wheeze, synths whir, steel strings twang, the whole thing so impossibly transcendent, effortlessly evoking ancient atmospheres and deep emotions. Hauntingly beautiful.

VELEHENTOR - 'Dyatlov Pass' 3 x CD (Infinite Fog Productions) - £26 / £28 / £30
Originally released in 2003 by Fight Muzik. This reissued album is available for the first time in the full 3CD version. A true monument and a masterpiece of ritual-shamanic drone ambient music. The album is devoted to the mysterious death of nine professional hikers on the Holat-Sjahl slope (Mansi for "Mountain of dead") on 1st February 1959. Investigations into the deaths suggest that the hikers tore open their tent from within, departing barefoot in heavy snow; while the corpses show no signs of struggle, two victims had fractured skulls, two had broken ribs, and one was missing her tongue. According to sources, the victims' clothing contained high levels of radiation, but no one from group worked with radioactive objects. Soviet investigators determined only that "a compelling unknown force" had caused the deaths. Velehentor will take you on a sonic journey through the infinite, dangerous and remote Snow-covered Northern Ural Mountains. The 2nd disc is a collaboration with Ad Lux Tenebrae. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! COFFINS / OTESANEK - 'Coffins / Otesanek' CD (Parasitic Records)

Reissue of the LP split by this pair, releases in early 2007. This is a massive, crushing Doom Metal clash between Japanese act Coffins and formidable Philadephians Otesanek (whose track was recorded by Steve Roach). Ultra-sludge, heavy-duty, guitar mangling suffocation, tipped as one of the best in the genre for 2007. Akin to Burning Witch or Grief.

CRISIS - 'Ends!' CD (Neroz) - £12 / £13 / £14

The final live show of Crisis - the punk act formed by Douglas P. and Tony Wakeford, who would later go on to form Death In June and Sol Invictus respectively. Recorded on May 10, 1980 at the Students Union of the Surrey University, Guildford. Crisis supported Bauhaus and Magazine. Included is "S.P.G." (one of the few unreleased Crisis songs), and "All Alone In Her Nirvana" (later recorded as a Death In June song). Digitally remastered from the original bootleg recording released shortly after the performance.

CYCLOTIMIA - 'Algorithms' CD (War Office Propaganda / Rage In Eden)

Reissue of Cyclotimia's 2005 album (Irond). Moscow duo Cyclotimia is one of the best recognised, well-known Russian projects in the electronic scene today. On "Algorithms" album Cyclotimia presents apocalyptic version of electronic music, dark ambient sounds supported by bouncing electronic rhythms, religious samples and different effects, all blended in that way which makes this album very intriguing. Cyclotimia's trademark sound proceeds from using a mix of the modern synthesis technologies and cult vintage analogue / Soviet machines. For all who listen into Ulver, Holon or Forma Tadre. Digipak.

DEATH IN JUNE - 'Lesson Number 1: Misanthropy' CD & DVD & Patch (NER)

This compilation of Death In June material from 1981-84 was previously only available on LP (1986) and is now reissued for the first time on CD. Its purpose is to tidy history and features tracks from the very beginning to the very end of the original line-up's recordings. Comes in a debossed 'repak' of completely recycled paper and includes the very rare version of 'Black Radio' known as 'Some Of Our Best Friends Live In South America', plus a recently discovered unissued longer version of 'Sons Of Europe' taken from the 'Burial' album sessions. The first 2000 copies include an exclusive embroidered patch and a DVD of the 'Reunion' performance of the 3 original Death In June members (Patrick Leagas, Tony Wakeford and Douglas P.) which took place as an encore to the Death In June performance at The Underworld in London on 6.XI.98. This was the first time the original trio had played together in 14 years and the historical moment was beautifully captured on video that night by Boyd Rice.

FILIVS MACROCOSMI - 'Stalker' CD (OMS Records) - £10 / £11 / £12

Inspired by and a tribute to A. Tarkovsky's movie "Stalker" (1979). Stalker is an elaborate puzzle. Its pieces are always scattered, and the listener is relied upon to bring the final element of the puzzle along with him. Stalker invites you to get carried away into your own thoughts, flowing with the images as it provides new questions to ponder. In that sense, the album is very much like a philosophical poem: a very simple surface covering innumerable layers of meaning. One long ride in a cart, with clunking metal and water-whooshing sounds. Altogether fascinating and hypnotic. "Welcome to your Self, an alien place guarded by barbed wire". Ltd x 500 copies in foldout sleeve. Ukrainian import.

IN GOWAN RING - 'Hazel Steps Through A Weathered Home' CD (Shayo)

Additionally, the beautiful song "Still Water Bone" (which also appeared in 1997 on the 'Terra Serpentes' compilation) has been included as a bonus track! Digipak.

NORDVARGR / DRAKH - 'The Betrayal Of Light' CD (Tumult) - £11 / £12 / £13

Nordvargr once again joins forces with fellow MZ.412 cohort Drakh, for another essential output, delicately balanced between dark ambience and grim blackness. 'The Betrayal Of Light' is one massive sonic event, a black cloud of sound. Slow beautiful crawls, murky soundfields and a delicate web of softly plucked guitar strings are swallowed by massive mournful dirges and majestic, funereal doom. An intense and overwhelming sonic journey, as heavy and brutal as it is delicate and beautiful. Doomy and blackened, drifty and droney, soft hazy, dense and devastating. 6-panel digipak.

SHIFT - 'Have No Fury' 7" (Heidenlärm Sounds) - £6 / £7.50 / £8

First release from Swedish Noise artist Shift. The title track initiates proceedings with dark ambient soundscapes and strong industrial rhythms, developing into heavy electronics. Flipping over, 'Jag Var I Kulverten' opens into a vast industrial soundscape, carried by a subtle repetitive melody. Heavily distorted low and mid frequency textures dominate the early moments, giving way to confrontational high-pitched abrasions. SHIFT / INSTITUT - 'Enders / Beginners' 7" (Animus Productions) - £5 / £6 / £7

Split from 2 Swedish noisers. Shift treats the listener to a dense and tormented composition. Violent vocals and high frequencies, with lots of noise and feedback. Institut (known from their releases on Cold Meat Industry) almost sounds peaceful in comparison. ‘Beginners’ starts as an Industrial soundscape, with low rumblings and vague Russian speech samples; but in true Institut style, the track gets more aggressive, veering into Power Electronics. Tor Lundvall's unheard album of ghost ambience! Dark and beautiful soundtracks for afternoon daydreams and moonlit forest strolls. "'Sleeping And Hiding' was recorded in what seemed like the blink of an eye during the Spring of 2005 and then shelved while I concentrated on other projects. I originally intended this album to be the third and final chapter in the series which also included "Last Light" and "Empty City". Listening to it now, however, I feel this album stands alone in it's own unique space. Musically, it's an entirely vocal effort and somewhat more song oriented than my previous releases. Several of the tracks were inspired by evening drives through the woods, watching the copper-pink sunlight reflecting off bright yellow-green blossoms... The final track 'Sleeping' manages to conjure up the precise atmosphere of one of my earliest childhood memories: Lying in bed during a bright afternoon as the strange sounds outside lulled me to sleep."
