Locrian / 7inch LOCRIAN - 'Dort Ist Der Weg' 7" (Flingco Sound System)

Locrian hammer the sing-song of Popol Vuh's 'Der Ist Der Weg' into a blackened alloy of their own invention on the A-side. On the flip, trebly blurs open 'Frozen In Ash', which then feints at expansive melody amidst screams, keyboard squalls and bludgeoning drums. "...an outstanding testament to a band possessed. Instead of producing some rehashed, dormant clone copy of this almost inimitable track, Locrian serve up a ritually hypnotic and powerful piece of music that will floor you" (Lurker's Path). Ltd x 500 copies in a letter-pressed sleeve by Dexterity Press.

Locrian LOCRIAN - 'Drenched Lands' CD (At War With False Noise / Small Doses)

First full-length studio album from one of the most consistently good bands around today, Chicago's Locrian. "Drenched Lands" is a beautifully thought-out piece of music, from a gentle guitar strum / synth opening which cuts out abruptly just as you're becoming entirely engrossed, only to give way to an epic cavernous drone. The whole thing brings to mind some sort of disused industrial factory or barren post-apocalyptic landscape. Dark tones, noise, keys and the odd well-placed guitar strum combine brilliantly to evoke feeling of desolation, loss, a submission of will, almost tangential in sound to Earth's "Hex" album. Ltd x 1000 copies in a Stumptown 'Arigato' pack (pro-printed, high-quality card envelope) with 4-page insert.

Locrian / VinylLP LOCRIAN - 'Greyfield Shrines' LP (Diophantine Discs)

For the past four years, Chicago's Locrian have been recording their unique and haunting brand of experimental music. Their first LP "Greyfield Shrines", was recorded live on WHPK in late 2007. The music is dense and enveloping, with mysterious drones and arcane melodies flowing throughout the ominous work. The piece climaxes on the B side as the modulated feedback surges. This release will surely appeal to a wide range of listeners, from industrial, drone, and experimental, to adventurous fans of drone & doom metal. Ltd x 300 copies on grey marbled vinyl. Housed in a printed letterpress cover. Stunning piece!

Locrian LOCRIAN - 'Rain Of Ashes' CD (Basses Frequencies)

"Essentially a single, hour long track split into two parts, Rain of Ashes brings in even more elements to the duo’s normally guitar/electronic sourced metal tinged drone/doom. The introduction’s shimmering guitar feedback over a simple electronic bed is not far removed from the band’s earlier works, but the building complexity of guitar tone is extremely dynamic, alternating between melodic post-punk tones and shrill piercing feedback, all the while the frozen wall of electronic textures stay in place. Eventually the noise shifts away to allow the subtle low end electronic sounds to move forward." (Brainwashed). Ltd x 400 copies with obi strip.

Locrian LOCRIAN - 'Territories' CD (BloodLust! / Small Doses)

André Foisy and Terence Hannum have spent the last several years honing the Locrian sound. They've taken elements from noise, power electronics, drone, and black metal to come up with a truly unique sound reflecting the sprawling urban decay surrounding them in Chicago. For this release, Locrian has pulled out all the stops and fleshed out the band with the help of Mark Solotroff (Bloodyminded), Blake Judd (Nachtmystium), Bruce Lamont (Yakuza) and Andrew Scherer (Velnias). The results of this massive collaborative effort are apparent from the moment the album starts. The textures run darker and deeper; the vocals - sometimes three layers deep - seem to be conjured from the decrepit muck of a failed civilisation; the feedback takes on a more pronounced presence; and the big band allows for full-on black metal assaults that burst out of the tortured drones Locrian have come to be known for. "Territories" may well be the most fully realised form of Locrian's dystopic vision. Digipak.

Locrian LOCRIAN - 'The Crystal World' 2 x CD (Utech Records)

Locrian's third studio album, "The Crystal World", is an epic journey. Inspired by JG Ballard’s 1964 novel of the same name that tells the story of a physician who specialises in leprosy sent to a remote African outpost to discover a jungle that is slowly crystallizing and encroaching upon everything it touches. Terence Hannum, and André Foisy are joined by Steven Hess (On, Pan American, Ural Umbo), whose contribution pushes Locrian deeper into the abyss of despair rendering a sound that is darker, bleaker, and engulfing than any of the group’s previous releases. Locrian continue the conceptual trajectory of blackened drone, manipulating tones and textures that transport the listener to an apocalyptic wasteland. At times, the layers are serene and somber, at other times they are chaotic. Ltd x 1000 copies in a Stoughton gatefold sleeve with outstanding art by Vberkvlt.
