Frankie & The S.E.M.M. add lofi synthesizer or suppressed feedback to the material. I actually enjoyed hearing it as I thought it was hilarious (though I am glad not have been present that night)... The Panicsville side has three pieces that were originally released as a cassette, and an unreleased piece... this material already forecasts his interest in musique concrete and analogue synths and these four pieces are quite nice experimental music pieces" (Vital Weekly). This 1997 CD is characteristic of Endvra's genius at melding various approaches into a "dark ambient" dreamscape. As the album's title suggests, the thematic focus is centered around "Hymn to Pan". The musical styles vary between minimalist ritual-industrial rhythms and ambient-orchestral pieces. Vocals for "The Truth Is A Sharp Knife" were recorded in Durham cathedral, whilst "From Sickening Skies' was recording during a lunar eclipse in 1996. Originally intended to be a re-issue of Wolfskin's 2001 limited release "The Gather of Shadows by the Setting Sun" (Ajna), this eventually evolved into a re-working of three tracks from that release, complimented by 7 newly recorded tracks. As the Wolfskin era comes to end, this release represents a glimpse into their past… a more organic, flowing ambient record than what you may find today. That being said, it most certainly will go down as one of their more stunning, darker visions; a masterpiece of shadowy atmospheres and drifting currents, featuring multiple layers of archaic sounds, nebulous textures and ritual invocations, perfectly combined to form a release of intense depth and complexity.
