Former MAYHEM front man MANIAC, whose band SKITLIV has proved to be a surprising departure from the Black Metal genre for which he was best known for over 20 years, has formed a side-project with fiancé Vivian Slaughter, bass player/vocalist with the Japanese all-girl band GALLHAMMER, SKITLIV's guitarist Ingvar Magnusson and experimentalist Andrew Liles (NURSE WITH WOUND). Unlike SKITLIV, which is a noise/doom amalgam, with Maniacs vocals still firmly rooted in Black Metal, SEHNSUCHT is in the noise / darkwave / ambient genre, with any vestiges of Black Metal pared away. 6-panel digipak.

This picture disc is made extra special not only by the inclusion of “Who Will Deliver Us From Gold and Planets” by CURRENT 93 - an introductory collage destruct that was created at the request of Maniac and is dedicated to him, but also because the artwork that is used for the side containing this track is part of one of Tibet’s own paintings.

A whole assortment of subtle electronic pulsations are concocted here by Christian Corvellec, always adequately supporting the sound fabrics woven by Martin Dumais, and which also are their starting point. A light at the end of the tunnel, penetrating different fissures along the walls, penetrating our mind with echoes. One only has to imagine a minimal tech project gone the drone-ocean way… pulsations are always there, but tinged with a sonic fog that is heavy, damp and fluid at the same time and which always suggests, in the end, uncertain twists and turns in this crossing of tunnels. M87 was created in 1995 by Huw Davies, inspirationally catalysed by a television documentary about Black Holes. Originally aiming to create music which expressed the strangeness and extremity of these elusive celestial objects, and as much aided by his extraordinary technical level as a guitar player as limited by his nonexistent technical level on any other instrument, Davies spent over a year developing and perfecting notation, playing, and recording techniques which would enable him to produce an alien orchestral sound with nothing but his 13 guitars and some recording equipment. Hypnotic, hallucinatory guitar feedback from Matthew Bower (Skullflower, Hototogisu, Sunroof!, Pure). Originally the project was noise and industrial oriented and received occasional help from members of Ramleh and Ake. Towards the later 1980's the sound became more guitar oriented, leading to the creation of Skullflower.
In the early 1990's, Matthew brought back the Total name to release his solo music aside from Skullflower. Although almost the releases by the second incarnation of Total are Matthew alone, towards the end he was joined by John Godbert, making Total a duo.
