An artistic collaboration between musicians Anni Hogan, Robert Strachan and Itchy Ear, film maker Bob Wass and mountaineer Cathy O'Dowd. Hogan and Itchy Ear originally worked on a series of piano pieces inspired by Rene Daumal's 'Mount Analogue' and the superior wisdom of mountains, using O'Dowds Himalayan conquests for particular authentic inspiration. Robert and Anni used these pieces and the Himalayan peaks as a template for painting a soundwave soundscape around the piano compositions. O'Dowd performed a fascinating monologue over the piece 'Deathzone'. The 'Mountain' film was created by Bob Wass from Cathy's original film footage of her Everest expeditions.

Peter Paelinck travelled for many years in the old lost valleys of the Himalayas and Tibet where he learned the secrets of the Bön. The dark side of the Igloo Recordings was inspired by these memories. In 2008 Peter made new recordings in Norway where snow and ice were the only material used to build instruments to create sound (iseridoo, isbone, isgong, isbell and istube). Eldbjorg Raknes joined him in making these recordings at the Geilo Ice Festival. In isolation on a mountain top in a specially built igloo, they created new ritual music, recorded by Tor Magne Hallibakken. The results were mastered in Iceland by Finnur Hakonarsson (Johan Johansson, Mùm etc), creating 9 primitive songs with a high listening quality. Peter Paelinck and his sister Niki Mono were 2 of the 5 Arian Aquarians on the cult record label LAYLAH and he has previously worked with Hilmar Orn Hilmarsson and David Tibet. The first full-length album from French act Aere Aeternus. Some of you will recognise the name from their tracks on 'The Obsolete View' compilation. The dominant atmosphere combines a sense of impending insanity with sexual deviancy and a large dollop of occultism, creating a dark and troubling misanthropic sojourn that is relatively unique. The final track is probably the most musical, as it is centred on a guitar arpeggio, but no such concessions to convention are present elsewhere on this deeply troubling disk. "Ai Ma Ra" is a monumental album containing over 105 minutes of experimental elemental and ambient music, original in the literal sense of the word. More than music, it is 'ethnography of the unknown' in action, providing vistas into rarely glimpsed corners of reality. Created primarily on acoustic instruments, organs and harmonium, carefully mastered on vintage tape, the sound is equally earthy as it is otherworldly – a contradiction in terms maybe, but then "Ai Ma Ra" is not classified easily in any other respect either. It is a record in which to immerse one’s self over time, containing more than two years' worth of strange experiences and sensations distilled into a curious, potent elixir, the use of which may in its truest sense be determined only by the individual listener.
