On the 3rd of November 2007, Baby Dee played with John Contreras in front of an invited audience at Oscar Ellingersvej 11 in Frederiksberg, Denmark. The concert was recorded, and has now materialised as the stunning live LP, ‘Love is Stronger Than Death’, which is the first ever Baby Dee release on vinyl. The bulk of the setlist is from the now deleted, much sought-after Baby Dee album / book ‘A Book of Songs for Anne Marie’. Many artistic influences travelled along the Silk Road, especially through the Central Asia, where Hellenistic, Iranian, Indian and Chinese influences were able to intermix. “Creatures of Cadence” finds Menche in full exploratory mode; excavating well-concealed networks of sonorous information through a systematic deconstruction of drone and pulse. In the process, he further erases any perceived division between hearing / feeling and performer / instrument. The result, if consumed at the appropriate amplitude, is nothing less than a sixty minute journey through a voluptuous and pristine mania. Released in an edition of 500, including three full colour inserts and overwrap with images of detailed bird drawings peppered with a whisper of the disturbing by Eric Stotik. Kenji Siratori offers hyper-modern harsh electronics with a ton of harsh noise that leads everything to total catastrophe. HALF MAKESHIFT - 'L'Anse Amort' CD (20 Buck Spin) - £10 / £11 / £12

Half Makeshift is the solo project of Pennsylvania's Nathan Michael. L'anse Amort contains four tracks that expand on the density of his debut "Aphotic Leech", creating more space and reflection, more peaks and valleys. The monumental 17 minute opener "Whale Heart" builds from a simple melody and crackling electro-static to eventually collapse under its own weight in a huge Nadja-esque wall of drone riffery , while other tracks are comparable to Bohren Und Der Club Of Gore. "L'anse Amort" is epic in a way most "post-rock" bands can only aspire to. Comes specially packaged in a vertical gatefold with four photographic postcards.

"Let us not be deluded by the spells of this sorcerer; because the first sounds overturn time's acknowledged and safe definition and begin constructions of different, weirder spaces. This is the last chance to resign and turn back. Otherwise, when you listen to the end of first track the only thing left to say is "Toto, I've got a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore". You begin your own, separate (and the longest?) journey. What do you see on your way? What unknown lands, traditions, incomprehensible rituals and dialects will you discover? I don't know. But I am sure that if David Lynch ever undertook the filming of "Alice in the Wonderland" the soundtrack of the movie will be filled with the music from 'A2982'." Digipak.

IRR. APP. (EXT.) - 'Dust Pincher Appliances' CD (Crouton) - £12 / £13 / £14

"Dust Pincher Appliances" was originally released in 1998 in a shorter, alternate form (10” vinyl, Something Weird Records, Iceland). This CD edition reveals different versions of the original recordings, as well as three tracks not present on the 10” edition. Some might say that anything graphic artist, sound artist, and writer Matt Waldron produces is peculiar, and his work as irr. app. (ext.) is no exception. Each minute of these startlingly Dadaist compositions reveals unexpected surprises. The instrumentation, who knows? A bit of everything really, except the standard ones. However, the style is not a mess, but rather an obsessively scrutinised audio story, aural painting, or sound experience, which is quite devastating to take in. Presented in a gatefold digisleeve.

It develops though vital energy a devastating tabula rasa of feelings, through other-worldly melodies, "found" songs, silences, sudden spoken texts, obscure nightmare soundtracks and cold nocturnal music for black & white memories. OSSO EXÓTICO & Z'EV - 'Osso Exótico & Z'EV' CD (Crouton) - £12 / £13 / £14

Portuguese avant-garde ensemble Osso Exótico have created a stunning body of work since 1989 (current members being André Maranha, David Maranha and Patricia Machás). With very little history to be found about the band, the music speaks for itself. Percussionist Z’EV, who has spent the better part of 40 years finding ways to coax sound out of material, and then creating a mystic cacaphony out of it, also uses sound as communication. Together, this grouping produces quite a statement, as sound becomes something unexplained by words, yet shared as an experience. This isn’t glassine drone music. It spews the grit of Tony Conrad and the trance of Terry Riley, while radiating the experience of a sweat lodge in a behemoth explosion of tribal minimalism. With no sound processing, the result is a highly natural, grossly enigmatic, and deeply energised recording. The power is yours for the taking. Released in an edition of 500 and packaged in an offset printed chipboard envelope.

Poor alcohol and the smoky interior of a pub. The common despair shouted out in rare moments of sobriety. The terrible, absurd atmosphere of Poland in 50’s and 60’s of last century. Young people, poets, writers, painters and musicians thrown out of the "happy and ideal” society created by communistic authorities. People sinking their dreams in vodka. The works of those damned: Kazimierz Raton (1942-1983), Marek Hlasko (1934-1969) and Edward Stachura (1937-1979) was inspiration for this moving album. RICHARD CHARTIER - 'Archival 1991' CD (Crouton) - £12 / £13 / £14

Throughout his recent work, Chartier has continued to present sound as design - clean, simple design, implying colors and direct lines and shapes; a spotless, modern room; a series of colored screens. His release on Crouton predates this taste, when things were a bit more complex, a bit more intense. As his recent work sucks the listener into white space, Archival 1991 takes you straight into a black hole, in the most comfortable way imaginable. This is a different kind of clean simplicity. The work is beautiful, stunning, and most of all, complexly powerful. The recording is based on two compositions from 1991, using analogue and digital synthesizers. In 2003, these original pieces were used as source material for this new work, resulting in an extremely intriguing revisit, and aesthetically true to much of his work from the same period. Presented in a 6-panel sleeve in a hand-numbered edition of 500 copies.
