Arcana's
approach to Neoclassical and symphonic ethno-ambient
could well be defined in the meaning of the word "Arcana"

this Swedish quintet creates a magical atmosphere
which weaves together lush elements familiar to Arcana

highly anticipated new album by the Swedish duo (Henry
Möller of Puissance and Marten Björkman)
is finally upon us. The sense of determination that
echoes through their music and which has brought them
to the forefront of Martial / Industrial Neo-Classical
scene has stayed untouched. “Omne Ensis Impera”
introduces an additional strength to Arditi’s
compositions - epic orchestral loops and thunderous
percussions are granted a more prominent role, stirring
the damp and suffocating ambiance that the duo have
always produced so well with their use of ominous
synths, obscure speeches and mesmerizing narrations.
“Omne Ensis Impera” could well be a modern
interpretation of the Futurist’s goal of glorifying
warfare to an artistic expression beyond its inherent

Dutch
artist Rutger Zuydervelt presents six tracks of post-industrial
ambience. Zuydervelt works with live instruments, mostly
piano and guitar, and intense computer processing to
create gloomy instrumentals. The tracks develop very
slowly, pushing them to the level of density his music
requires. Looping piano changes into a menacing melody,
followed by a transitory section that leads to the grand
finale: A five minute noise orgy that sounds like plugging
headphones into the turbine of an Airbus. This is quite
a surprise when compared to the overall quiet nature
of the LP, but it sums up a very intense album. Limited
to just 100 copies on white vinyl.

'Ranonkel'
marks a break in form from the recent output, avoiding
all sense of this being another ephemeral transmission
from the Machinefabriek hard drive, and instead sounding
like a fully formed bonafide album, a worthy follow-up
to 'Marijn'. Rutger Zuydervelt conbines the very best
of his microsound work with an explicitly tuneful instrumental
element... an infinitely graceful backdrop of high frequency
sine tones, crackle and slow chords. The finest Machinefabriek
outing of 2008 by some margin - you'll be returning
to the opening piece in particular again and again.

Talented
Italian ambient composer Alessandro Tedeschi runs
the Glacial
Movements label and plays music as Netherworld.
His fascination for polar landscapes and soundscapes
makes him close to industrial ambient pioneers such
as Thomas Köner, Rapoon, Biosphere and Lull.
Icy, windy, droning and deeply 'protomelodic' at once,
his music is a poetic translation of the ice floe.
Nadja is the drone / doom / ambient duo of Canadian
musicians Aidan
Baker and Leah Buckareff. Their behemoth of sound
is a construction of heat, weight, loop and vapour.
Here, they had to break Netherworld's ice and find
a way to the red core of Earth. The common track brings
heat onto ice, which warms up, crackles and soon melts.
As a conclusion, the long piece by Nadja is total
heat. This is Nadja 'unrhythmed', which means pure

the title suggests, this is the 3rd studio album of
Czech act Napalmed. Recorded in 2006/7 with a new
2-member line up, 'III' is offered with no extra sound
/ production changes, just continuity from the previous
albums "...Tinnitus" and "Nevermind...",
though more precise, more intense and with more power.
Napalmed offer a single 80-minute track of pure industrial

spooky crypt-floor dustiness sound that Sunn O)))

heaviness, has an abstract hypnotising and warm feel
with a mystical depth and dignity all of its own that

from this German / Dutch duo who conquered physical
distance through proximity of hearts.Their first opus
gathers 13 songs, written over the four year period
that followed since the duo's first meeting in Ireland,
when Saskia Dommisse and Marcel Schiborr travelled
there to attend a Brendan Perry workshop. On the verge
of Neofolk, the album presents a unique atmosphere
built on stringed instruments such as acoustic guitars,
cello, violin and bass. Although a romantic tone is
found throughout most of the disc, the compositions
also often possess a ritualistic essence where male
and female voices rise webbed to the pulsating percussions.
Singing of love, loss, forlorn tales and old rituals,
Saskia and Marcel invite us into the bleak forest
of their soul, where an uncharacteric sense of optimism
shines through the treetops to shed some light upon
the shady path. Released in a beautiful digipak, including
a 12 page booklet with all lyrics.

Reissue
of Puissance's 1999 album. With the Industrial rust
of early days properly polished, the Swedish duo would
further explore their talent for graceful arrangements
set to Militaristic Neo-Classical music. Following
the overtly confrontational offerings of "Let
Us Lead" and "Back In Control", Puissance
were now set to resurrect the ghosts of Cold War and
the obsession with all things thermonuclear that haunted
the planet - the Mother of Disease, as they would
call it - over that period. Brooding hymns to suicidal
heroism, devotional praises to a new god that would
finally bring closure to the human race, the screeching
of metal twisting and melting - all of this would
find its place in Puissance's own beautiful vision
of the impending apocalypse, that they so ingeniously
depict on "Mother of Disease". This fine
collection, it has been re-mastered and enhanced with
one bonus track, presented in a matte-blue deluxe
digipak edition.

Mount Fuji Doomjazz Corporation is the free-form,
drone metal / jazz alter-ego of The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz
Ensemble, the band formed by Jason Kohnen (Bong-Ra)

live session, “Doomjazz Future Corpses!”

and piano, which move effortlessly between beautiful,

Throughout this debut album, the listener is taken
on a twisting and turning melodic journey, though
the cohesiveness of the pieces is never lost as the
pace and form change without warning. Compositional
tools are introduced and discarded and yet the music
has a strangely familiar feel. This is the first work

8 pieces, stripping dense walls back to reveal a slowly
changing sound configuration. The 2nd disc is not
merely bonus tracks, but a complete re-creation of
