The Polish duo HATI is a very active live group, using

"Ottoman Black" is an album of midnight drones
and true noise. Using powerfully clear electronics as
a base for declarative noise bursts, Crumer manipulates
the sounds with a resounding animosity. In the vein
of Pedestrian Deposit and Air Conditioning, Crumer yields
his mean streak to an array of silences over the course
of the album. The theme here is personal relations;
tracks like "Betrayal After Betrayal" have
a conversational quality, both the screams and the muffles,
the physicality. "Where Were You" is an actionist-influenced
piece of torture. There's nothing not painful here,
especially the quiet; the peaks are almost a relief.

art and sound project from Gemany, with a very peculiar
and rather dadaistic approach. The two pieces on "Kristall"
seem to be based mainly on feedback and metal or glass
sounds that are carefully put together for a strange-sounding
trip. Side A consists of humming, growling drones, low
siren-like sounds and high-frequency feedbacks, powerful
and absorbing and very abstract, while never turning
into sheer noise. Side B delivers a crystal-clear noise
chant and metallic overtones processed with obscure

of one of the most important representatives of the

Lull (aka Mick

such as large bodies of ice which slowly move, carried
by an endless river. These five compositions reach the

ever composed by this pioneer of industrial-ambient

1981 by Sterile Records, London. Tracks 8-10 are taken
from "Compilation Internationale No.2", released
in 1980 by Scopa Invisble, France. The moral of this
work: the past punishment is the inevitable blindness

For some years now Stockholm based artist Mathias Josefson
has delighted the drone scene with his highly minimal
excursions into drone territory. From harsh noise to
soft and gentle ambience, the aim is to reach a basic
level of sound conscience. In doing so the "human
mind" and the "sound mind" interact to
build a symbiotic entity. "Lode" and "Lvx"
are great examples of breathing drone structures which
seem to be derived from real string or wind instruments.

The man behind Murmer is the US field recording specialist
Patrick McGinley, who is also responsible for the 'Framework'
radio programme on London’s Resonance 104.4FM.
The two pieces on this "Drone" captivate the
listener with intelligently assembled and multi-layered
recordings of a garden in London (i.e. tree bark, water,
footsteps, a creaking gate), processor and ventilation
sounds of an old computer, and beads of a broken necklace.
All sounds were left un-processed. Combined, they take
you on a trip into an other world of low drones and
high-pitched noises, crunching and gritting microsounds,
surprising cut-ups, all very near and clear. First edition

is the first collaboration between Prurient and Kevin
Drumm. Both artists are regarded as singular stylistic
entities in their own right. Kevin Drumm is known for
his improvised work, as well as being a mainstay in
the Chicago noise world. Prurient has been toiling in
the fields of noise for over a decade and has developed
an increasingly dynamic output incorporating darkly
arranged synths. Their cumulative work displayed here
is both unexpected and focused. Using source sounds
of intense tonal drones supplied by Drumm, the two create
a haunted atmosphere that is far removed from noise,
exploring minimal junctures, using field recording and
clean patient vocals to lead the way. "All Are
Guests In the House of the Lord" is among the darkest
record in either artist's catalogue. The subtle textures
of the electronics combined with near cinematic arrangements
make for a record that is engaging and consistent in

Terrific 3-track 10" by the prolific German composer
Ralf Wehowsky. The whole composition is based on only
few seconds of piano sounds and vocals (the rest is
imagination). The track titles and pieces offer strong
inter-relations in a complex way. The sounds develop
through imagination and decay and appear in the pieces
with different emphases. The classical piano sounds
and its highly processed permutations are set in contrast
with the highly emotional voice material, like entering
a convoluted labyrinth of voice frazzles, drones and
fragmented, strange micro-sounds. Are these the memories
of single cells? The shadow of abrasion processes?
The slow decay of imaginations? A fantastic work where
conceptual thoughts and emotionally driven acoustics

Seetyca is a German project dealing with language, poetry
and sound. Seetyca’s musical interest lies more
in creating acoustic landscapes or moods than in telling
stories. They’re especially interested in unconscious
archaic states of the mind. The two pieces on "The
Lake" relate to a sacral approach of experiencing
nature. When beautiful (classic?) samples are set into
a sphere of extremely wide spaces and reverberation,
when these clouds of sounds spread out in infinite refulgence,
moving like slow surging billows, a point of utmost
inner calmness can be reached. First edition of 300

Behind Shrine we find a fresh experimental drone project
from Bulgaria, combining the melancholia of distorted
synths with odd micro noises and effects. The fusion
of rough and thunderous drones with hidden melodies
evokes a strong emotional impact, like the feeling of

shows a way to realise that what we call “reality”
is to be mistrusted based upon our usual perceptions.

Dream-team hook-up between a trio of the most important
free-noise theorists of the modern age: The New Blockaders
and Thurston and Jim of Sonic Youth et al. Hard to work
out who is doing exactly what here - though the presence
of drummer Chris Corsano on the second track is pretty
unmistakable - but the overall feel is of one of TNB's
early 'Symphonie X' works, populated by thin strings
of feedback, the crackle of electronic jack-to-jack
friction and a subtle ring of bone. Beautifully eerie
and a little more pro-drone than the bulk of TNB's work.
The second track is just unbelievable, with a slow hiss
of feedback torn apart by Corsano's triumphal, spirit
/ energy scattershots, marching a legion of ghosts all
the way over the horizon. Highly recommended.

Ure Thrall (Asianova, ex-Voice Of Eye) is an American
artist from Houston, Texas, who is long active in
the more atmospheric, transcendental experimental
US-scene. His first vinyl release contains two long
tracks with an organic, filmic and sublime quality,
using echo-flutes, bass, e-bowed guitar and restrained
percussion underneath. The whole 7” is a personal
statement about the politics of the USA after this
tragic day, which is expressed also in the cover artwork

Wulgata is a Polish musical project, who for the past
few years has ben creating dark ambient and industrial
sounds in the quiet spots of Silesia. "Echoes
of the past...not far away" is a compilation
of what is best in Wulgata. This is a 'deceitful'
album - on one hand announcing the coming of a mortal
threat, and on the other, a reflection of some inner
strength, that tries to break free and whispers to
calm the spirit. 55 minutes of grim dark ambient sounds
with rhythmical and industrial elements. Presented

"Feuerstern" ("Firestar") captures
two tracks of luminous tones and magnetic resonances,
which create a warm and floating aural flux. With
mellow concrete material setting the counterpoint,
very subtle hisses, smacking and clicking sounds can
be distinguished. These are enriched further on Side
B with field recordings by Michael Northam, made in
2006 at the Audioframes Sonic Art Festival in Herne.
This was where "Feuerstern" was also performed
in a choreographed way using fireworks! Very delicate
tone colours and a perfectly balanced sound pattern
allow for contemplative listening sessions. The 7"
