TODOLO - 'Descension' CD (Public
Guilt) - £12 / £13 / £14 |
 |
First
full-length from Aluk Todolo, showing the band developing
the esoteric theorems established on it's debut 7"
and going far deeper in the methodical exploration
of the occult powers of musical trance. With the goal
to create a timeless, organic mixing of krautrock's
strangeness and black metal's coldness, AT conjures
rabid obsessive rhythms and abyssal disharmonic guitars,
subliminal spiritualist vibrations and bizarre, magick
summonings. “Intense and hypnotic, heavy and
fucking genius. Ritualistic sounds, both black and
brilliant, pulled from the void, a mysterious and
sonic netherworld. Definite contender for record of
the year" [Aquarius].

DIRT CAR - 'Spoken Answer To A Silent Question'
CD (Aftermusic)
- £12 / £13 / £14 |
 |
The
Milwaukee Noise ensemble Boy Dirt Car issues its first
new recordings since 1988. Many of you will know the
name from their appearances on RRRecords. "...
I keep thinking to recognize the old Boy Dirt Car,
but there is also strong memories of Impact Test [BDC
member Darren Brown]. It's not easy to pin this down,
but rock drone would come close I think. Slow, peaceful
organ loops, heavy bass and siren like sounds, make
this balancing on the fine line of ambient industrial
and 'real' industrial, although this comes nowhere
close to the real noise. Hard to imagine that eight
(!) people play on this work. It's both retro sounding
as well as new, this can be a true example for everybody
who love their lo-fi noise / drone / rock music of
the younger generation" [FDW]. Digipak.

LAVELLE - 'Fallen Are The Domes Of Green
Amber' CD (Diophantine
Discs)
- £12 / £13 / £14 |
 |
With
"Fallen are the Domes of Green Amber" Brian
Lavelle continues in his more recent direction with
experimental drone music, while also incorporating
some of his earlier recordings into the pieces. At
over 70 minutes, the album consists of two lengthy
and picturesque tracks. Both are extremely focused,
complex, and dynamic - they evolve, gradually and
intricately. Beautiful (yet also melancholic) and
abstract, the two pieces are quite distinct from each
other in their own respects, yet fit together to form
a seamless and monumental overall work. Ltd x 500
copies in a special printed wallet.

| DONIS
- 'Alexandreia' CD (Autarkeia)
- £12 / £13 / £14 |
 |
'Alexandreia' serves as a deep, pure and dreamy manifest
to the ancient times. Tranquil, transparent and persuasive
ambient streams prevail in the tracks. The archaic
winds of different nations tastefully add to it on
some of the tracks, with hornpipe, bagpipes, tabor
and bells. The Mediterranean past and present, the
East and the West, the Greeks and the barbarians meet
in the catharsis of profound sadness and wisdom, where
the fall of civilisation witnessed in the vanishing
cultural heritage is revealed. Greek poetry is recited
in an enchanting voice and the ambient melting the
words with elemental force embrace the audience who
do not even know the archaic language. 'Alexandreia'
will not disappoint the lovers of Dead Can Dance,
Raison D’etre etc. Ltd x 500 copies in a digipak.

IN THE HEAD - 'I/CON' CD (Autarkeia)
- £12 / £13 / £14 |
 |
I/CON
is an exploration of religion as both a catalyst for
mental illness and as a disease itself as well as
the various manifestations of the resulting psychoses.
These are the incessant screams of the pious and the
possessed, of hypocrisy and holocaust, of resurrection
and insurrection, of suffocating paranoia and immaculate
deception and of a deified ego putrefying in its own
fallacies. Using processed voices as a key aspect
of the source material, I/CON shunts a maelstrom of
auditory hallucinations and recurring apocalyptic
nightmares through densely layered power electronics/industrial
keeping the assault at fever pitch throughout the
eleven tracks. Mastered by Thomas Garrison. Ltd x

CD (Wrotycz)
- £12 / £13 / £14 |
 |
"The
year is 1996 I was surfing on cold waves through the
very heart of Linkopia, night after night it was all
the same. Sleeping in the Karmanik basement seduced
by delirium echoing between white concrete walls.
I could hear the equipment slowly disintegrating as
I put out the light, broken sounds of a dying culture.
This might be the erosion of history eternally scraping
on the crown of mankind... or was it just the decline
of my personal belongings after years of abuse...
and was there any difference between the two theories?
I stretched out my limb and pressed the record-button"

- 'Metafizyka' CD (Ars
Benevola Mater) - £12 / £13 / £14 |
 |
G.S.
is Grzegorz Siedlecki (Horologium, Krepulec, Totenhaus).
G.S.’s sound evokes the elemental completion
of the symbol, together with the mechanical and almost
unconscious gesture of the ritual. This is the ideal
place for a music which is obsessive in its forms,
rarefied and nebulous in its emanations. The six tracks
which coldly paint the soundpath evoked by G.S. offer
a series of industrial soundscapes in a sacred and
tormented key, where the inviolable dark of an ancient
nave meets the grieving silence of an abandoned industrial
area. Ltd x 545 numbered copies in a textured, outsized
sleeve.

| GIRNU
GIESMES - 'Tiems, Kas Budi Uz Slenkscio'
CD (Autarkeia)
- £12 / £13 / £14 |
 |
The
ninth album of Girnu Giesmes (which translates as "For
Those Who Keep Vigil Beyond The Threshold) is dedicated
to the next element of the archaic worldview of Lithuanians,
that is, the mythological sagas. To be more precise,
the weird reality functioning in accordance with specific
laws in sagas that has been deeply ingrained in human
mind from time immemorial. This is arcane, but not necessarily
unapproving worldview of the supernatural world as the
dark powers. Each track here projects a fascinating
interpretation of the archaic thinking system in music.
Vivacious and a bit eerie, the album is difficult to
define in terms of music style. Psychedelic ambient...
bizarre broken rhythms and loops... but with a strong
and interesting mood, creating rich and professionally
compiled sound collages. Ltd x 500 copies in a digipak.

| HEXPEROS
- 'The Garden Of The Herperides' CD (Equilibrium
Music) - £12 / £13 / £14 |
 |
Debut
album by Hexperos, the new Gothic / Neoclassical /
Chamber project by the soprano Alessandra Santovito
(Gothica). Exotic and sensual Mediterranean percussion
patterns, together with the low rumble of double bass
and the soft keyboard, enriched by violins, set the
nocturnal atmosphere for Alessandra’s soaring
voice. Instrumentation and arrangements are skillfully
mastered to balance grandiose dramatic moments against
delicate passages, sparsely colored with a discreet
Celtic tone (enhanced with harp). A
remarkable debut, deserving a place amongst the best
works of Arcana, Ophelia’s Dream or Sopor Aeternus,
and Dead Can Dance’s darkest days. Presented
in a spot varnished digipak.

| JARL
- 'Breaking Point Syndrome' CD (Autarkeia)
- £12 / £13 / £14 |
 |
The
ninth album of Swedish industrial artst Erik Jarl,
also known as one half of IRM. Just like his previous
albums, this one radiates the remarkably icy, mercilessly
depressing and languorous, as well as claustrophobic
mood. To reach the effect, Erik simply generates unique
industrial sounds. Each accord smacks of unexplainable
anxiety, the feeling of a degenerate future, drug-induced
reality, poisoning and exceptionally technocratic
character. Jarl music can be qualified as psychedelic
industrial / drone, while the album is an excellent
example of the Scandinavian mastership in creating
a persuasive and visionary sonic landscape. Mastered
by Peter Andersson (Raison D'Etre). Digipak.

- 'Wound Profile' CD (Autarkeia)
- £12 / £13 / £14 |
 |
Reissue
of the debut cassette album from Swedish electronics
genius Jarl (aka Erik Jarl / IRM), now remastered
for CD. The album consists of two record sessions:
one of them (6 tracks) was recorded in 1999, while
the other (1 track) was recorded 18 months later.
Those closely following Jarl's music may recognise
the early sound of Erik’s compositions in "Wound
Profile", reminding of the first IRM records.
Clear-cut, abnormal, psychedelic rhythmics, its distorted,
massive repetitions, analogous loops of synthetic
sound generate the emotions of anxiety, morbidity
and degeneration. "Wound Profile" can be
characterised by emotional straightforwardness and
brutality. Ltd x 500 copies in a digipak.

- 'Babel' 2 x CD (Diophantine
Discs) - £14 / £15 / £16 |
 |
"Babel"
is an extremely dynamic and dense work that could
generally be classified as experimental dark ambient.
The theme here is the Tower of Babel and each disc
takes a somewhat different yet complimentary approach:
the first ("Red Babylon") is generally a
rather heavy and intense recording, while the second
("Citadel of the Nevermind") is more droney
and dream-like. A profound and monumental journey
lasting well over two hours. Ltd x 500 copies in a

| MORTIIS
- 'Ånden Som Gjorde Opprør' CD (Projekt)
- £12 / £13 / £14 |
 |
2007
reissue of the Mortiis classic, originally released
on Cold Meat Industry in 1995. As a member of Emperor,
Mortiis was one of the notorious members of the fanatic
Norwegian Black-metal scene. Through a natural evolution,
Mortiis made his way into the Scandinavian dark-electronic
scene. These lengthy pieces present a regal yet ancient
mood; as if the soundtrack for ancient castles filled
with forlorn kings looking out upon their lost kingdoms.
Words are spoken in Norwegian, drifting into the background
ambience. Mortiis at his very best, crafting dark
synth-orchestral journeys into an enchanted world
of medieval fantasy. Digipak with new artwork.

originally released on Cold Meat Industry in 1995.
The Norwegian troll (founding member of notorious
Black Metal act Emperor) presents 2 long tracks of
medieval fantasy music, not unlike Za Frumi or a stripped
down, synth version of Dronolan's Tower. The soundtrack
for ancient castles filled with forlorn kings looking

Norwegian tongue drifts over dark synth-orchestral
journeys into an enchanted world of medieval fantasy.

- 'The House On The Borderland' CD (Ars

 |
Based
on the fantasy tale (which bears the same title) written
by the clever William Hope Hodgson, “The House
On The Borderland” symbolically carries the
listener through pages of real terror, where he is
told about the gloomy presences infesting an old house.
Echoes of Lovecraft’s style for a thrilling
soundtrack, precariously and perpetually poised between
suggestive melancholy and abysmal fear of the unknown.
An eerie modern classical / dark ambient / dark wave
/ experimental soundtrack. Ltd x 535 numbered copies
in an elegant, textured, 6-panel A5 sleeve.
|
| OORCHACH
- 'Prisimerkti' CD (Autarkeia)
- £12 / £13 / £14 |
 |
The
Northern nations of Siberia use the term “Oorchach”
to define a very specific archaic artefact of the
household - an iron ring attached to new-born domestic
animals to prevent them from sucking their mother’s
milk. It is a powerful archaic symbol embodying the
encounter with remorseless reality in early childhood.
The signs and sounds of these shamanic cultures extinguished
in times immemorial are revived in the ritual ambient
/ industrial project Oorchach (Lithuanian artist PoPo).
Monotonic powerful loops, tribal rhythms, coarse sound
quality, and the composing methods remind of the aesthetics
of old school industrial / ambient and generate a
strong, archaic atmosphere, the vitality of shamanic
rituals and the intoxicating trance of primeval eternal
nature. Ltd x 500 copies in a digipak.

| ORO!ORO!
- 'Ilgesio Rubikonai' CD (Autarkeia)
- £12 / £13 / £14 |
 |
The
debut album of oro!oro! (Laurynas Jukonis of Girnu
Giesmes) reveals the accuracy and subtlety of painting
complex and deep human emotions with the help of electronic
sound. The particularly lucid and melancholic ambient
music of the album "Ilgesio Rubikonai" ('Rubicons
of Nostalgia'), transfers the audience into highlighted
and poetic visions experienced by those searching
for the meaning of existence when the autumn closes
in. Autumn is the transformation of nature, bringing
in the processes of ageing, decline and, at the same
time, maturity into the whole of existence. A lonely
but adventurous journey into the sorrowful landscapes
of nature, cities and soul. Ltd x 500 copies in a
digipak.

| ORO!ORO!
- 'Prarastos Ziemos' CD (Autarkeia)
- £12 / £13 / £14 |
 |
The
pioneer of Lithuanian post industrial, Laurynas (also
the composer of Girnu Giesmes), continues his experiments
with sonic impact on human mood. "Prarastos Ziemos"
("Lost Winters") is an investigation of
winter phenomenon, providing the audience with a translucent,
modest and refined ambient masterpiece conveying very
precisely the deepest aspects of winter: limitless
cleanliness, transparency, serenity and the recreation
of existence. The music of the album is also special
in that no electronic means were used for its recording.
Ambient sounds are produced by harmonica, guitar and
archaic zither, which lifts the sound quality of oro!oro!
into the entirely new aesthetic level. Ltd x 500 copies
in a digipak.

| RICHARD
FRANCIS - 'Together Alone, Together Apart'
CD (CMR)
- £12 / £13 / £14 |
 |
"The
building blocks of 'Together Alone, Together Apart'
by New Zealand's Richard Francis are 'sound moments':
sonic interludes of a dozen or so seconds of environmental
sound, whose subtle arrangements and cross-contaminations
are the springboard for the compositions found here.
Given the quiet volumes, sounds at the threshold of
audibility are presumably those which have captured
his imagination. A soft hiss and variable low end
frequency introduce the first untitled track, with
small crackles, glitches and echoes sporadically breaking
through. The second is considerably more dramatic,
with a flapping rhythm emerging from a grounded hiss
like a moth's wings beating against glass. The final
track is almost undetectable, even with headphones,
and strengthens the connections between Francis's
work and the reductive strategies of Bernhard Gunter
or John Hudak..." [Wire]. Ltd x 300 copies in

| SVAIXT
- 'Virsme Versme' CD (Autarkeia)
- £12 / £13 / £14 |
 |
Coming
from the master of Lithuanian post-industrial, Laurynas
Jukonis (Oro!Oro!, Girnu Giesmes), this project reveals
his sincere interest in the roots of the civilisation,
the beginning of the archaic, multi-meaningful, solid
and conflictless reality. Svaixt's music consists
of deep, pulsating and very transparent ambient building
up a mystic, arcane atmosphere. The value of the album
lies in the absence of digital sounds, recorded only
by playing single brass percussion, inducing meditation
and providing the sound with a strong oriental zest.
Originally self-released in an edition of 50 copies,
the album is now complemented by new artwork and presented
in a limited edition digipak of 500 copies.

| THE
MOON AND THE NIGHTSPIRIT - 'Regö Rejtem'
CD (Equilibrium
Music) - £12 / £13 / £14 |
 |
An
impressive return, which finds the duo tapping further
into their Hungarian roots, both lyrically (no English
vocals this time around) and musically, resorting
to ethnic instruments that add a more colourful and
vibrant tone to their sound. A mystical journey into
the amaranthine realm of dreams and beauty, long-forgotten
by modern man. A journey inspired by pagan fables,
ancient Hungarian folk music and nature itself. "Regö
Rejtem" is a line from ancient Hungarian minstrel
songs, which means "I conjure with magic",
a vision that suits perfectly the mood on the duo's
songs. This time they have traveled further into times
bygone, rekindling the flames of the Taltos (Hungarian
shaman) and reawakening the spirits of the Elders.
The album is presented in a DVD-size Digipak, and
comes with both Hungarian and English versions of
the lyrics.
