of the Great Beast's spoken word pieces, Enochian Magic

Portugese minimal-electro-acoustic artist Alfredo
Costa Monteiro surprises with “Epicycle”.
The steady-state, relatively drone-ish character of
this 38-minute piece of work is much more fluid than
his earlier work and is also based on sound recordings
of his voice, although processed virtually beyond
recognition. “Epicycle” fluctuates from
roars to barely perceptible pings, often with an abruptness
that initially startles but on second listen seems
entirely natural, like a cloud suddenly blotting out
sunlight. It’s a fascinating, chillingly beautiful
journey; you never feel quite safe but always have
the sense you’re in capable, acutely sensitive
hands guided by a deep musical imagination. Comes
in an outsized sleeve, with choice of metallic red
or metallic brown cover.

"Polar Nights Live" documents the historical
and astonishing performances from this Japanese Noise
duo at All Ears festival in Oslo Norway, January 2006,
made all the more significant as the duo rarely perform
outside Japan. The duo of Jojo and Junko performed
as Hijokaidan on the opening night. On the second
evening they were joined by Norwegian guitarist Per
Gisle Galåen (DEL, The Birds), unleashing thick
layers of psychedelic and distorted guitar fog. The
final night saw Junko hooking up with noise-nik Sten
Ove Toft (Ryfylke) for a hellish meltdown of twisted
electronics and the most intense voice in music. Unlike
most other noise acts Hijokaidan has not spoiled their
fans with a huge number of releases, which makes "Polar
Nights Live" an even more unique statement of
pure noise sound. Presented in a digifile.

"Collaborating Torture" is one of the last
known recordings made by Matt Gibney (Hollowing),
who died in January 2006. Gibney, a member of SOIHADTOSHOOTHIM
and label boss of the Rectrix label, was joined here
by the prolific Maor Appelbaum (Grave in the Sky,
Poochaltz, Vectorscope) to create a brooding and massive
54-minute track of dark, pitch-black ambient, hypnagogic
swirls and industrialised drones. Sometimes subtle,
yet mostly haunted and delirious, this is highly recommended
if you like Wilt, Aidan Baker, Z'EV, Daniel Menche
and John Duncan. Israeli import.

Incapacitants need no introduction. The duo of Fumio
Kosakai and T.Mikawa are veterans and originators
of Japanese noise music and are cult band number one
for noise fanatics worldwide. In January 2007 Incapacitants
performed live, for only the second time in Europe
in 25 years, at the All Ears festival in Oslo Norway
(the band later described the two shows as highlights
of their career). "Burning Orange" documents
these concerts. The CD consists of two complete sets;
one Incapacitants as a duo and on the second joined
by Finnish noise connoisseur Tommi Keränen (Testicle
Hazard), who describes incapacitants in the liner
notes as "...an inspiring, pure, all-encompassing,
ecstatic storm of sound that has a power of near-religious

'Le Bruit Du Toit' is a rare meeting between two stalwarts
of music - Seijiro Murayama, founding figure of numerous
seminal avant-rock outfits during the 80s/90s such
as Fushitsusha (on drums) and Absolut Null Punkt;
and Jean-Luc Guionnet, a veteran and a revered artist
in the musical constellation of sound art / composition
and improvised music. This was their first and only
time playing together, and a culmination of a series
of unprecedented events (mostly seemingly banal and
mundane) and musical possibilities that occurred before
and during that meeting. Recorded at a Buddhist temple

"..Van Hoek uses old cassette players, turntables,

computer, using field recordings as their source,

the lines between the non rhythmic Pan Sonic, and
combines it with nice, but not all too harsh noise
and leap frogs into the world of drone. His use of
loops prevents this to be much in the world of musique
concrete, but there too lies some of his interest...

"Underwater passage" is based upon underwater
recordings taken in 2006 by Zairo (Where), which were
then treated by Massimo Magrini (Bad Sector). These
recordings were taken using special sensing microphones
attached to an abandoned telephone cable running on
the seabed at -40m. They were then processed with
particular demodulating treatments, resulting in a
complex and rich ambiental monument, with strange
clicks, impulses and a lot of movements. Definitely
far from the usual concept of dark ambient, "Underwater
passage" shimmers with cutting mid / high frequencies

returning from the other side. Four songs with a total
playtime of about 40 minutes. Robedoor have been compared
to The Skaters and Skullflower, but with their unique

lots of hidden tension. On the flipside you'll find
"Lullaby (for my Dad)", also a slowly arising,
captivating piece, but more staccato. Finally there
is "Lover's Breath" - a very open and clear

is a music collective featuring core members Joachim

4 long songs. Compared to their earlier releases this
one takes a more minimalistic and monotonous approach

Reissue of two rare vinyls, presented on one CD. This
is the ritual face of Troum! “Darvê Sh”
was released in 2003 as a 10” vinyl on Beta-Lactam
Ring Records, as part 10 in the “Lactamase”
series. Darvê Sh is the etymological Persian
source for “Dervish”, meaning “doorway”
(a metaphor for being between this world and the netherworld).
“Ajin” was released in 2005 as a picture
disc 12” vinyl on Equation Records. Ajin is
Hebrew for “eye”, but also means “colour”
or “source” and is the 16th letter of
the Hebrew alphabet. The right eye looks into the
sky for transcendence, the left eye looks to the ground
to the word of god (one that dances and the other
that speaks) - a balance of contradictions. A5 gatefold
package.
