ARC is a Canadian trio (Aidan
Baker, Richard Baker & Christopher Kukiel),
playing tribal guitar drone ambient with psychedelic
and post-rock elements and a very hypnotic sound.
"Arkhangelsk" was recorded in Toronto, Canada
in December 2007 in two separate sessions. The first
consisted of improv performances on drumset and guitar.
The second consisted of layering percussion, electronics,
and woodwind tracks on those original drum / guitar
tracks. Both sessions were made in real-time in single
takes with minimum post-production editing or manipulation
in an effort to capture the spontaneity of the performances.
"Arkhangelsk" combines influence / inspiration
from such artists as Flyer Saucer Attack, The Boredoms,
Tribes of Neurot, and Rapoon.

This has to be THE find of 2008! So much so, that Cold
Spring have secured a reissue of this incredible album
in an unlimited edition, to be released in a few months
time. Working with a constantly evolving autumnal orchestra
of layered cellos, repeating piano melodies, hushed
vocals and mutant textures of sound and noise, Bleeding
Heart Narrative has constructed a unique, haunting and
compelling album. BHN is the work of sole composer,
artist and producer Oliver Barrett, working in the live
spectrum as a septet. The intricate and detailed artwork
and packaging are all designed and drawn by the artist.
Produced in a highly limited run of just 200 pro-pressed
CDs, each copy comes in a hand-assembled, individually
numbered card-bound case, with a custom-designed foldout
insert and a unique Polaroid photograph. We can't recommend
this highly enough!

of ultra bleak, abstract atmospheres, with sounds and
textures that seem to seep from catacomb walls and come
slithering out of subterranean chambers. Certainly,
this can be classified as a dark ambient record, but
at it’s core, it’s more than just that simple
classification. There’s a gritty, more jagged
edge here, with deep rumblings, and crackling, climatic
squalls buried under a bed of ghostly reverb and haunting
tonal resonance. Fits in nicely with past Malignant
releases such as R-A-A-N's 'The Nacrasti', Heid's 'Arktogaa',
and even Caul's 'Crucible' CD. In elegant 6 panel digipak,
with stark black and white, carefully arranged illustrations
inspired by Taschism and Spatial art. |

frames very vivid material operating with industrial

sound work, the compositions on this album may rather
evoke the sense of an avant-garde classical music piece.
In contrast to their prior work, this Einleitungszeit
album is full sound textures and psychoactive atmospheres
of “clinical leitmotiv”. Presented in a

Esoteric is a British extreme doom metal band from
Birmingham, founded in 1992. "The album contains
three incredibly long pieces that hardly qualify as
songs for each one contains its fair share of noise
and dark psychedelic passages, its own paranoid journey.
The chaotic textures and spidery rhythm delving deep
into the listener’s mind, drowning the emptiness
in layers of aural dissonance. The music is so effectively
psychedelic that people I know have actually reported
hallucinations (without the aid of hallucinogenic
drugs) while listening to the album, and not pleasant
ones mind you. Metamorphogenesis was obviously crafted
with a very small minority of people in mind, that
incredibly small part of the general population that
actually enjoys ugly, dissonant and horrific soundscapes.
I can only recommend this album to them in good conscience.
I wouldn’t wish this album on anyone else"

tracks. "30 Monkeys" is the soundtrack for
a world controlled by apes, crushing machines and
noisescapes. "The music is a degenerate mass
of harsh electronic waves and patterns as savage as
the primate of the title. Even when Flutwacht lower
the decibel levels down a fraction the violent restraint
is never far from the surface. A brooding seething
mass of noise waiting to erupt once more. The production
on this release is crisp and clean... and this gives
the recording a greater sense of depth and bite allowing
the hugely powerful electronics full reign to take
centre stage... Take the best aspects of Propergol,
minus the samples, and multiply the effect by ten"

acid rock album that introduced Italian psych-pop mavericks
Jennifer Gentle to the rest of the world, leading to

quartet join forces with Kawabata Makoto (Acid Mothers
Temple) for a live album that captured the band at it's
most ferocious. Over 30 minutes of wonderful sonic carnage:

beautiful solo sarongi track played by Kawabata. All
in all, a must for all fans of heavy, guitar-driven

New York wrote down a fragment of beauty’s hidden

features Lainhart’s masterpiece in its original
29-minute version. "...composed and recorded
in the fall of 1974 at the State University of New
York, Albany in the Coordinated Electronic Music Studio.
CEMS was created by my composition teacher Joel Chadabe
with design and custom fabrication by Robert Moog
and was, at the time, the largest integrated Moog
modular synthesizer studio in the world" [Lainhart].
The title came about as a blizzard passed by Lainhart's
window whilst finishing the piece: "the
snow swirling in the light against the blackness;
a moving painting continually drawn."
