Ultra deep, glacial Dark Ambient, based around Antarctic co-ordinates.
The polar regions are awe-inspiring environments of inhospitable
minimalism, and at the same time there's a beautiful serenity
to be found in their uncharted bleakness. There's a powerful
purity and a timelessness to be found there; snow which has
lain un-trampled for millennia and ice which formed eons ago;
mountain ranges and deserts and rivers to be found if you
look. 'Deep Frieze' is SRF's second album for Cold Spring
and here deep, resonant, abyss-like drones shine forth from
icy chasms below.

Reissue of the 1992 classic by this Australian genius, originally
released in an edition of 500 copies. Occasional bursts of
factory noise, industrial rumblings and disembodied German
voices form the backdrop to a minimalist reworking of Kafka's
"The Trial." An album of dense filmic atmospheres
and orchestral instrumentation. 'The Scribbler' has been digitally
remastered and is enhanced with a series of video clips constructed
by Richard Grant (I+T=R), incorporating both new material
together with the original images prepared for "The Scribbler"
live show.

(Thumbprint
Press) - £12 / £13 / £14 |
 |
Amps For Christ, led by Henry Barnes, features guitarist
and electronics members from the defunct “Power-Violence”
unit Man Is the Bastard as well as founding members
of Bastard
Noise, percussionist Togarama as well as custom
built electronic rhythm machinery by Enid Snarb. Named
after the the unique and powerful custom made amplifiers,
as well as electronic and acoustic instruments built
by Barnes, AFC takes a direction of exploring the interface
between traditional folk and caveman electronics. Sleeve

containing schematics and diagrams explaining how to
build your own AFC devices as well as detailed liner
notes with artwork by Barnes himself. Limited edition
of 1000 pieces. |

NOISE 'RRRevenge’ 2 x CD (Thumbprint
Press) - £15 / £16 / £17 |
 |
The 24 tracks of material herein were established to
analogue tape a decade ago, eluding the underground
until now. This body of work is the product of four
years in the Echo Park & Claremont studios. Half
of these 24 examples of technological sound investigation
consist of the then line-up of Barnes, Nelson &
Wood. "Aesthetics & innovation are what fuelled
these compositions". These tracks are now offered
directly to the underground through this self-release.
Creating them kept this unit alive. Each set has unique
colour combinations - three different fold-out double-sided
hand-inked sleeves and a two sided offset insert with
liner notes, all packaged within a heavy-duty archival
clear plastic sleeves. 1st edition limited to 500 pieces.

| BEEQUEEN
- 'Gund’ CD (Plinkity
Plonk) - £11 / £12 / £13 |
 |
Two recordings from two vinyl projects. The first
four pieces on the CD were recorded early 1998 for
a 12" vinyl single on which these tracks were
supposed to be cut at different speeds (16, 33, 45
and 78 RPM). Due to its complexity of pressing this
record was never realised. The fifth and sixth track
were originally intended to form a 10" album
of a most unlikely meeting by Beequeen and MSBR. Based
upon a mutual sound exchange, both Beequeen and MSBR
worked independently on their pieces. The label that
intended to release this, stopped while both bands
were still recording. Beequeen finished their piece
in 1998 and MSBR decided to do a new piece in 2001.
Ltd x 500 copies in a gatefold sleeve.

NOISE - 'Split’ CD (Thumbprint
Press) - £12 / £13 / £14 |
 |
This CD offers some of the most horrifying tracks
to date from BU's Pasi Markkula with source tape of
an E. Kemper interview shedding darkness on the "disneyland
values" of the American heartland. BN (Nelson
/ Wood / Gandara) dedicate one track out of three
long and punishing cuts to Enid Snarb (Amps for Christ)
and destroy any doubt you may have of whether or not
BN has what it takes in the Power Electronic arena
with an appearance of a scorched earth caveman AFC.
These two outfits bring out the best that either has
to offer time after time. Presented in beautifully
printed, transparent artwork with a sticker, housed
in a heavy vinyl sleeve.

| CHARLES
MANSON - 'The Summer Of Hate - The '67 Sessions’
CD (Arte
Lupo) - £12 / £13 / £14 |
 |
Charles Manson’s name should be no stranger to
lovers of the weird and wonderful, having been sentenced
to life without parole for his leadership of the cult
“The Family”, who committed several murders
in the late ‘60s. Before these events, Charlie
had high-hopes of becoming a pop star, with his strange
psychedelic folk music - bizarrely more fashionable
today than ever. Here for the first time are the complete
recordings that were made on 11th September 1967 in
a rehearsal studio, which went onto be used as demos
to try to secure a recording deal, which never happened.
Spoken word elements throughout the 18 tracks (just
under 45 minutes). Essential for collectors of ‘60s
Folk and weird psych freakouts. |
| DARREN
TATE & PAUL
BRADLEY - 'Sometime Today’ CD (Plinkity
Plonk) - £11 / £12 / £13 |
 |
Sometime today, is a collaboration between Darren
Tate and Paul Bradley. In his own unique and intimate
way, Darren recorded the basic tracks at his home
in York. Including guitar, keyboard and various other
techniques, these recordings were passed onto Paul
who took them with him, along with a laptop, on a
recent visit to Turkey. These original tracks were
supplemented with various field recordings taken around
the town of Fethiye and the piece assembled during
this three-week visit. Voyeuristic, evocative, abstract
and delicate, you are invited to spend some time in
their sonic world. Ltd x 500 copies in a gatefold
sleeve.

 |
In 1983 Dutch experimental band De Fabriek ("The
Factory") released their second album "Neveleiland"
on their private label in a limited edition of a few
hundred copies. Consisting of two beautiful and delicate
sides of story-telling (in the Moluccan and Icelandic
language) set in a droney, outer world landscape,
the album was a landmark in the history of Dutch experimental
music. Influenced by the Residents (circa Eskimo)
and Conrad Schnitzler this album has a somber electronic
sound in which the stories become alive. Remastered
from the original tapes Ltd x 500 copies in a gatefold
sleeve.

CD (Lumberton

 |
'Worn to a Shadow' is the most recent album by Sonic
Boom (Spacemen 3 / Spectrum) under his EAR guise.
Its artwork, using two op-art designs, is absolutely
staggering. Play the album whilst gazing at it and
fall back in slow motion. EAR's sound will be instantly
recognisable to many, as indistinct soundscapes unfurl
(almost in slow-motion) to reveal a real concept of
ambient depth. Without doubt, EAR's finest work to
date. An exceptional release. CD version in digipak.

| FLIM
- 'Ohne Titel, 1916’ CD (Plinkity
Plonk) - £12 / £13 / £14 |
 |
The second release by Flim (Enrico Wuttke) for Plinkity
Plonk. "Flim's music is full of deep sadness.
The liner notes explain that the music was composed
as an attempt to cope with the loss of a child, trying
to find a balance between hope and frustration. To
create his music Flim makes use of piano, organ and
thoughtful computer processing. Often just single
notes are struck on the piano; they keep on resonating
and then slowly fade before the next note is played...
Other tracks are more drone-related, with acoustic
sounds stretched out into warm, hovering fields...
a point where pain and beauty converge in fragile
and intimate music... Flim's music is full of sadness,
but... there is also a stretch of light on the horizon,
a short dreamy melody to be discovered here and there
just below the surface" [Vital Weekly]. Ltd x
500 copies in gatefold plastic sleeve.

| FLATLANDS
/ SUNSHINE
REPUBLIC - 'Split’ 12" (SuperFi)
- £10 / £12 / £14 |
 |
Flatlands (with 2 tracks) are seriously heavy in a
stripped-down Isis style, with monolithic, catchy
riffs crashing into each other and plenty of screaming.
Sunshine Republic (with 1 long track) are on a more
experimental tip, reminiscent of House Of Low Culture,
though there are elements of doom, post-rock and noise
in the mix too. The LP is presented on heavy grey
vinyl and comes with acetate inserts. Offensive and
difficult in equal measure.
|
| FRANS
DE WAARD - 'Vijf Profielen’ CD (Alluvial
Recordings) - £12 / £13 / £14 |
 |
In November 2005, Frans de Waard (Beequeen) spent
a week recording and composing on location in the
small Dutch town of Vlissingen. A Marine shipyard
is located in the centre of the town, but has closed
due to regeneration of the area. As part of an exhibition
'[Mijn] Domein', Frans De Waard was asked to reflect
on this transition. He recorded the remaining activities
in the building, where so called 'profiles' are made
for use in shipbuilding. In this musical piece things
move from hectic and busy (in the first profile) to
emptiness (in the fifth profile), although it's one
piece. Using mainly recordings made on site of elevators,
metal cutting and room ambience, this piece is a strong
work of field recordings with minor electronic processing.

| GHOSTS
OF BRESLAU - 'Peste’ CD (Twilight
Records) - £12 / £13 / £14 |
 |
Ghost Of Breslau's debut album "Peste" (originally
released in two very small editions on Bunkier Prods.)
has finally been captured onto CD format for a larger
audience. "Peste" is a voyage to the beginning
of the World War II - a time when the world was on fire
and violence engulfed the city of Breslau (the German
name for Wroclaw). Ghosts of the past are still present
here. Martial Industrial, apocalyptic war hymns, neoclassical
music and dark evocations of the forces now hopefully
forgotten. File next to Turbund Sturmwerk, Karjalan
Sissit etc. |

A hypnotic musical journey composed by Italian legend
Gregorio Bardini - an artist who has been on scene
since the early 80s as part of TAC and Kino Glaz,
and a collaborator with Thelema, Tuxedo Moon, Tony
Wakeford, Vidna Obmana, Alio Die etc. "Sentinelle
Del Mattino" takes you into a world of harmony,
expressiveness and anguished melodies. With a wide
spectrum of musical instruments, unforgettable vocals
and musical innovations (from Stefan Rukavina of Bleiburg
amongst others), 'Sentinelle" touches the heart
in its deepest depths. Ltd x 1000 hand-numbered copies
in special foldout sleeve. Israeli import.

Robert Beatty and Trevor Tremaine (the latter two

'Tränende Würger" is based on free

by electro-acoustic means. The compositional process
did not intend to mask the nonlinear nature of the
improvisations. Quite on the contrary - their organic
character has been emphasised by crystal-clear sharpening
of details. Complex structures and dark atmospheres,
not unlike those on some P16.D4 releases, though absolutely
rooted in the 21st century. beauty and poisoning are
not far from each other. Comes in an outsized sleeve

REHBURG - 'Kapotte Muziek By Peter Rehburg’
MCD (Korm
Plastics) - £10 / £11 / £12 |
 |
The fourteenth installment in this series is a mini
CD by Peter Rehberg (Pita / KTL).
For his rework, Rehberg used the recordings of the
very first Kapotte Muziek workshop (and concert) held
in september 1997, as part of Staalplaat's 'Masterclass'
event at the Korzo Theatre, in Den Haag. Moving away
from digital computer noise for this work, Rehberg
crafted a beautifully soft but outspoken piece of
music. Low rumbles at micro levels and moments of
silence are interspersed with isolated throbs and
shimmering mid-frequency drones. A total playing time
of 17:30.

RICHARD
CHARTIER / BOCA
RATON - 'Kapotte Muziek By Richard Chartier
/ Boca Raton’ CD
(Korm
Plastics) - £10 / £11 / £12 |
 |
The 13th installment in the "Kapotte Muziek by..."
series. Chartier's piece takes original recordings
of KM from a concert at Garage Festival, Stralsund
(August 2004). A quiet, 20-minute low drone piece,
with little change. More diversity and adventure comes
in with the four tracks by Boca Raton (Martijn Tellinga),
who reworks original recordings from a KM concert
at Smart Space, Amsterdam (March 2003). Minimal ambient
vs atmospheric microsounds, with gentle sensibilities
of musique-concrete, electro-acoustics and suchlike.

HAFLER TRIO - 'A Thirsty Fish’ 2 x
CD (Korm

"And so it came to pass...and stayed there, finally.
A splendidness of extra-re-release: sonically enhanced
by an order of magnitude, with a full previously lost
quarter of the thing put back where it belongs, and
oh, how we laughed! Artwork restored, millions of minions
having toiled for years. Yes, miracles performed *every
day*! Come on in! The water is wonderful!" Originally
released as a 2LP by Touch, then re-issued on one CD
(thus leaving off one side of the music) by Mute, now
finally re-released in its original form, as a 2CD set,
in the usual Hafler Trio package, with booklet, a poster
and a postcard." An impressively accomplished work

HAFLER TRIO - 'How To Reform Mankind’
CD (Korm
Plastics) - £13 / £14 / £15 |
 |
The fourth in the Hafler Trio reissue series. "The
early Hafler Trio albums revelled in the miscommunication,
the recycling of information within new contexts,
and a disorientation caused by the play between what
is real and what might be real... Subtle flutterings
of shortwave data have been processed into rarified
air; low volume, resonant frequencies colliding with
the body for a chest-cavity massage; the clunky piano
from McKenzie's Negentropy album returns as a post-serialist
leitmotif; and desolate sonar plinks slam against
metal walls to astounding effect" [Aquarius].
Originally released in 1992 by Touch, now finally
seen as should be, including a 24-page booklet, poster
and postcard.

The seventh in the Hafler Trio reissue series, originally

Hafler Trio are never "easy listening" and
Ignotum Per Ignotia no exception... The music seems
based upon silence and noise. There are long periods
of silence and then suddenly there's an outpouring

this is a difficult Hafler CD to listen to, there
is a strange quality and attractiveness in the music...
There are track titles listed on the sleeve, but the
music is coded as one long piece" [Vital Weekly].

| THE
HAFLER TRIO - 'Kill The King’ CD (Korm
Plastics) - £13 / £14 / £15 |
 |
The first in the Hafler Trio reissue series. "...Kill
The King reads as a unique and incredibly personal
form of communication through the physicality of sound,
which holds its own peculiar set of of nuances and
neologisms. During the ensuing 70 minutes, McKenzie
in occasional collaboration with John
Duncan and Zbigniew
Karkowski, recontextualises a huge wealth of synthetic
and found sounds to form the basis of this aural language.
Here, data crunched drones are suspended within an
electrified ether, the noxious rasp of a modem nestles
against corroded pulsations, and oxygenated whispers
reverberate through and eerie ambience" [The
Wire]. Originally released in 1991 by Staalplaat and
Silent Records, this is one of the most sought after
classic Hafler Trio releases. Heavy packaging with
booklet and poster.

| THE
HAFLER TRIO - 'Mastery Of Money’ CD
(Korm
Plastics) - £13 / £14 / £15 |
 |
"On "Mastery of Money", a distant hum
that builds into a disturbing intro with bursts of
noise and high-end frequencies, serveing as a preliminary
setting to the subsequent relentless throbbing of
thick drones, which display some very subtle harmonics...
this release stands out in its vastness and desolation,
and extremely succesfully builds an abyss of intricate
slabs of noise. Fragments of voices and various other
figurative sounds augment drone-like sounds until
the narrative dynamics of the piece increases towards
the end. Both captivating and disturbing, this is
yet another fine Hafler rerelease." [Phosphor].
Zbigniew
Karkowski appears on two tracks. Originally released
in 1992 by Touch as a CD, this remastered edition
includes a new and revised 28 page booklet, poster
and postcard.

| THE
HAFLER TRIO - 'Seven Hours Sleep’ CD
(Korm
Plastics) - £13 / £14 / £15 |
 |
The sixth in the Hafler Trio reissue series. Allegedly
based on dream research, this is non-academic electroacoustic
/ musique concrete at it's finest. Chris Watson and
Edward Moolenbeek were still part of the group - Watson
bringing a strong interest in field recordings to
the studio and Moolenbeek signalling an overt dealing
with perceptual issues. The album's progression from
the early disorientation to the closing drones succeeds
in putting the listener in another state, making this
one of the Hafler Trio's more effective collections.
Originally released on LP by Laylah (1985) and reissued
"wrongly" on CD by Mute (1996). "Now
really available as should have been." Heavy
package with booklet and mini-poster.

HAFLER TRIO - 'Who Gave You The Ability To
Envisage Perfection?’ 7" (Plinkity
Plonk)
- £10 / £11 / £12 |
 |
"When we make a room ready, it's not a given
that the appointment will be kept. Furthermore, what
used to happen in the old days, and will now start
to happen again, is that random visitors will appear.
It's only natural after all. So when this particular
slice of tangerine was severed from the tree, it had
purposes that were commensurate with that particular
time: but now we gaze on the visage of something bigger
than had at first been anticipated. Revel in the ending
that gave way to a beginning, although the path is
not yet clear. There are no methods used here —
but there are more things to tell when the bus reaches
the terminus. As it will on completion of this piece
of homework" [H30]. Clear vinyl packaged in a
heavy silver-printed transparent vellum sleeve. Limited
to 333 copies.

MOORE - 'Kapotte Muziek By Thurston Moore’
CD (Korm
Plastics) - £10 / £11 / £12 |
 |
After attending a Kapotte Muziek concert in Easthampton,
USA, Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth) was asked by KM
(Frans De Waard, Roel Meelkop and Peter Duimelinks)
to expand on the idea of that concert. For the 12th
part in the series "Kapotte Muziek by..."
Moore carried this out in a totally free setting of
piano, guitar and small objects, creating the concerts
by removing the concert and replacing it by his own
playing, where the original recording serves as a
score.

| TOR
LUNDVALL - 'Empty City’ CD (Strange
Fortune) - £12 / £13 / £14 |
 |
RESTOCK! Where “Last Light” was about
looking inward, “Empty City” ventures
out to a fantastic, frightening new world, a decayed
urban setting much different than anything Tor ever
explored in the past. Where “Last Light”
was centered around words, on “Empty City”
the music takes over once again. There are vocals
but used exclusively in an instrumental manner, no
lyrics needed this time. The subtle underlying melodic
structure of this music means it may be the most listenable
"ambient" music you've ever heard, while
it's all drenched in a singularly moody, haunted atmosphere
that is Tor's real trademark. File under “ghost
ambient”. First edition is limited to 955 numbered
copies in matt digipak.

| TOSHIYA
TSUNODA - 'Kapotte Muziek By Toshiya Tsunoda’
CD (Korm
Plastics) - £10 / £11 / £12 |
 |
This is in many ways a break with tradition. Normally
Toshiya Tsunoda writes detailed descriptions of what
he does per piece, but in this case it is just said
he reworks an old cassette by Kapotte Muziek, called
'4 Stukken'. Like the cassette there are four parts,
corresponding with the original release and they are
reworked in the best Tsunoda tradition, involving
field recordings and strange and unusual on-site recordings.
Rather than being documental or naturalistic, his
pieces appear as unique music compositions concerned
with the relation between space and cognition, rendering
the vibration of objects audible, revealing the hidden
beauty in each sonic detail. He captures the depth
of the landscape, the vital breathing of things.

TUHAT
KUOLEMAA SEKUNNISSA - 'Tuhat Kuolemaa Sekunnissa’
CD (Anima
Arctica Productions)
- £12 / £13 / £14 |
 |
Noble & Honest Neofolk rooted firmly to the pagan
grounds of Finland. "These songs are made to
rise higher than pines, and the brilliant melodies
glitter like silvery lakes under the holy sun. Some
of these tracks are surely to be sung along with tears
in eyes by lonely listeners, and some out loud by
like-minded minds affected by blessed beers and wicked
wines. This record is mainly performed with two acoustic
guitars and bass guitar held by men with fierce fire
in minds and souls... in the language of their ancestors...
A reverend nod is given in the direction of the classics
of the British Isles' Neofolk genre, which shake hands
with archaic songs sung by Finnish tribes next to
fireplaces in nightless night, in lightless winter
of this cold, cold country."

| Z'EV
- 'Forwaard’ CD (Korm
Plastics) - £12 / £13 / £14 |
 |
For almost forty years Z'EV has been at the absolute
forefront of experimental music. Throught playing percussive
ritual music he gained a lot of well-earned attention,
but in more recent years he has returned to working
with electronic tape manipulation. On 'Forwaard' he
uses field recordings made by Frans De Waard, which
are 'recoded' by Z'EV into a 40-minute, densely layered
pattern of musique concrete. Many of the water-like
sounds disappear in the recoded version and makes a
particularly strong work. Outsized sleeve.

Compilation
with Asmus
Tietchens, RLW (Ralf
Wehowsky), Merzbow,
Freiband
and John
Watermann. "On April 2nd 2002 John Watermann
died suddenly of an infection resulting from his ongoing
treatment for cancer. Having in the final year of
his life returned to artistic pursuits, he still had
vast plans for future projects. Among these unfulfilled
projects were plans to collaborate with Frans de Waard
on a new release. Although only preliminary discussions
on the collaboration took place and Watermann never
completed any work towards the project, Watermann's
source material that was to be the basis of the work
now serves as a basis for this tribute release. This
release serves as a record of Watermann and his influence,
documenting the respect he reserved from his peers
and, hopefully, introducing his work to a new audience."
