The concept of aurally conveying the horror of a gas chamber
was realised through field recordings in an abandoned electrical
power station in Brisbane in 1992. The sounds are grating
and harsh, a mixture of field recordings and electronic manipulations.
One can rarely pinpoint a location or action but the images
the sounds conjure up are of all sorts of nefarious activites
related to death by machinery. The sleeve notes take you into
the horror that is the Calcutta Gas Chamber. A beautifully
composed and produced CD, completely remastered and re-packaged.

Crown of Light is a collaborative project between
American artists Brandon Elkins (A Crown of Amaranth)
and Robert Hunter Osgood (Conversations About the
Light). ‘The Clearing’ is a laid back
Dark Ambient record with some experimentation, some
Concrete Music soundscapes, and some noisy electronics.
But predominantly the album unfolds in a calm, and
ominous manner, with various organic samples and vocals
limited to just one song. An intriguing project to
watch out for.

Falls Burning is Dirk Serries' love letter to the
world of electric guitar drones. Best known for his
solo act VidnaObmana, he launched Fear Falls Burning
in 2005 as an outlet for his fascination with lo-fi
and post-rock music, and as a way to return to his
roots in drone music. This DVD release features 6
full-length and exclusive live concerts performed
during his German tour in 2005. Each of the 6 performances
is a single, uninterrupted improvisational composition,
accompanied on screen by an abstract live photograph
from the concerts. *** These are not music
videos, and there is no motion picture footage!***
Over 4 1/2 hours of music! Presented in a
stunning A5 folder made from hand-processed wood grain
paper - custom made for Soleilmoon by Shantilal &
Sons of Bombay, India - and no two copies are alike.

Not
to be confused with the champagne of the same name,
this is the first solo album in a decade by this French
artist (member of Zonk’t / Nox and label manager
of Odd Size). ‘Downfall’ is a single track
which develops ultra slowly, with very low, organic
rumbling and hypnotic bass. The composition seems
minimalistic but yet complex, absorbing and disintegrating,
cold yet organic. ‘Disperse’ is also a
singular track, but is more in the vein of concrete
electro-acoustic music. Inspired by the compositions
of Steve Reich, loops are copied, layered and moved
around, so that the listener is under the permanent
impression of growing turbulence and spatial buzzing.

more melodic than most Maeror Tri recordings. The
bonus-track "Immersion In Emotion" was recorded
10/1993 and appeared only on the "From The Hills

A return to the roots of pagan Europe, drums and all.
It certainly has heroic, martial qualities but is actually
very varied, drawing on three main currents: the classic
Sol acoustic folk approach, ambient-orchestral parts
and more experimental elements. The lyrics are about
life, death and struggle, the transience of human existence,
mortality and the death of God. This is signified by
the inclusion of Heimgest's Odinic Gealdor - a magical
chanting of the runes. The invocation of the runes encapsulates
not just the fatalism of wyrd, but rather the totality
of existence. Tony Wakeford is joined here by Sally
Doherty and Karl Blake. Textured sleeve with foil-blocked
text, complimented by an insert with all lyrics. Very

the English folk stronghold of Cornwall, and the romantic
south-west tip of England. Tony Wakeford is joined here

A sensational collaboration between Z'EV, one of the
forefathers of Industrial music, and renowned Spanish
artist Francisco Lopez. Z'EV's "Buzzin Fly"
(in memory of Tim Buckley) is a full spectrum 32 minute
piece full of dynamic shifts, sonic worlds and can be
described as oceanic in feel. Lopez's "Dormant
spores" takes 40 minutes to run it's course, and
is perhaps a more meditative piece than Z'EV's, but
no less challenging. Lopez skillfully crafts minimalist
hypnotics that can be as destructive to delicate eardrums
as they are captivating. Both works complement each
other and form a powerful album. |
