RESTOCK! ‘Venereology' is one of his most abrasive records and in many ways a definitive Merzbow release. Sure it's atonal, arrhythmic, non-melodic. By most dictionary definitions I suppose it isn't music - except the one that has music as organised sound. Because this is certainly organised, for those who have ears to hear: brilliantly produced and mixed, with layer upon layer of textures and timbres creating a constantly shifting vista of immersive noise. While they were originally grouped as a noise band with contemporaries such as Whitehouse, have migrated over the years to be considered one of the leading exponents of UK "noise rock" (similar to Skullflower etc). Plus great articles on Southern Lord and The New Blockaders and a big bunch of album/live reviews. Always highly recommended.

This is the first of the "History Of Violence" CD re-release series documenting the first seven Slogun cassette full-lengths. "Sacrifice Unto Me" was the first Slogun release, issued as a limited personal edition of 10 just for friends on Slogun's own Circle Of Shit label in May, 1996, shortly followed by an edition of 50 copies on the BloodLust! label in June of 1996. The CD design was executed by John Balistreri (Slogun), while the mastering was completed by Jerome Nougaillon (Hermetique / Propergol).

Formed by Matthew Bower (Skullflower / Sunroof!), Total was a noise and industrial oriented project, often with help from members of Ramleh and Ake. Bowers went on to form Skullflower, which ended Total. This album is representative of the really, really loud and noisy side of Total - violent guitar expression and pure noise.

A 60 plus minute exploration through nebulous, grey areas of the mind, expansive drones and spiraling vortexes of sound that hover near the shadowy, distorted zones of a nightmare before ascending to mountainous heights and dense, billowing climaxes.
