The eighth album in the Aquavoice's discography contains 10 compositions, covering more musical territories than before. It's pure electronics, but a bit more experimental than simply dark ambient or Berlin school, as previously associated with Aquavoice.
The formula and the sound might be different, but the creative method and approach has not changed. As always, Tadeusz Luczejko treats synthesizers and computers as a sound source. This CD closes K2's second chapter which, through almost two decades, littered the noise world with some of the brightest, most bewildering, and most dangerous metal junks-infused noise imaginable. "Junk-A-Tohgenkyo" is a collection of the project's final three live shows, staged in mid 2003. First, a solo set at Tokyo's legendary 20000V aptly titled "The Last Metal Storm". Second, a lengthy collaborative track with those titans of noise, the one and only Incapacitants, again at 20000V. Third, a less abrasive and utterly intriguing collaboration with Yukinori Kukichi (Billy?) served up at Tokuzo in Nagoya. Each track is a room recording, capturing all the eagerness, pressure, volume and weld sparks of the event. Ltd x 250 copies in a digipak.

Through kaleidoscopic composition, constitution of voice, and timbral experimentation, Nathaniel Ritter and Troy Schafer continue to braid their string of works as Kinit Her. On "The Poet & The Blue Flower" the duo architect a unique system of auditory mysticism. Falling in an undefinable territory of the post-industrial and neofolk landscapes with both strictly structured songlike fragments and more free-associative passages throughout its 8 tracks, this album features the exalted rhetoric that is Schafer’s stoic orchestral arrangements, Ritter’s tidal electronics and the continually evolving vocal deliveries of both men.
Lyrically "The Poet & The Blue Flower" draws on the poetry of Rudolf Pannwitz, escalating Kinit Her’s themes of the entanglement of Heaven, Earth, and those who believe to be dwelling in some intersection thereof.

A deluxe reissue of both volumes of "Meditamentum" (released previously on Holonom and Manifold respectively).
Unavailable for many years, "Meditamentum" is a collection of tracks culled from tape releases and rarities hidden on many compilations. It spans the whole existence of Maeror Tri, 1989-1996. A sort of "best of" Maeror Tri, it tells the story of the band's progress, from the rough edges of "Peak Experience" to dreamy soundscapes of "The Beauty of Sadness". Released in a lavish gatefold mini-LP sleeve designed by Marcin Lojek. Each volume is extended with a bonus track making the whole collection 155 minutes long and comprising of 23 tracks. Mammoth Ulthana is a sound-concept project based on a combination of traditional acoustic instruments, such as an oriental gong set, bells, animal horns, pipes, ethnic drums or singing bowls, with electronics. This blend creates a sort of unique and intense musical space. Mammoth Ulthana is based on the ancient Mammoth Ulthana tribe; a community made up of druids, shamans and paladins, dedicated to Nature, gaining the knowledge and the power to maintain inner balance by entering the spiritual world of sound. They were the mediators in their culture, they communicated with the spirits, both living and dead alike and including the spirits of the deceased, on behalf of the community to alleviate unrest, unsettled issues, and to deliver gifts. 6-panel digipak. |

"Barren Land" was the second full-length release from Northaunt (originally released 2004 on Fluttering Dragon). Recorded 2002-2003 in Spitzbergen, an island in the arctic region north of Norway; a desolate place that inspired the most arctic album by Northaunt. "Barren Land" is a masterpiece of nature-inspired ambience; a release that returns the listener to the icy floes of Norway, not only figuratively but also literally, with samples woven into a poignant ambient work that is a worthy heir. Seeking to underpin humankind's intrinsic relationship with nature, the music delves far more than simple reverb and endless drone; melodic guitar performs contrapuntal to glacial drifts groaning as giants, evanescent lisps of male and female voice grace the skies like aurora, plaintive piano swirls in the eddies of gelid and industrial storms. In addition to the "Barren Land", you will find extra CD including the mini-album "In The Midst Of Life, We Are In Death" (2004), the unreleased track "Winter II" (2004), as well as an absolutely new composition "Hopeless Dreams", the first track recorded by both members of Northaunt since 2006. This expanded edition is presented in the in finest digibook with a 12-page booklet, including additional information and photos from 2002-2003 by Haerleif. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

RAISON D'ETRE - 'Collected Works' CD

As the title suggests, this is a collection of tracks from between 1999 and 2010 that has appeared on various compilations or other external projects by Raison D'etre (Peter Andersson). Surprisingly, despite the that fact, these tracks form together a unity, as if they were material for a conceptual album and present a memorandum of a past. Death, decay, melancholia and sadness is the common attributes; and this is also beautifully rendered in the images by Martin Bladh (IRM, Skin Area) used for the artwork. His premature death masks sequence is based on different aging faces of Peter Andersson and works as the perfect facade for this kind of soundwise journey and exposure. Digipak.

Some of you might remember Bel Am - one of the most underestimated Italian wave bands, authors of the "Eternal Carmine" EP on Discordia (1993). They disappeared from the radars shortly after that little treasure. Now Maria Cristina Anzola, the talented ex-Bel Am singer, has teamed up with Davide Borghi (Albireon, Ekra) and gave birth to The Blue Project. "Adrift" combines noisy and complex soundscapes with strongly emotional female vocals, for an original and moving blend that's far from the "heavenly voices" or "neoclassic" clichés, carving a kind of milestone in the ethereal / electronic music field. The album also features Riccardo Spaggiari (Ataraxia) on 'The Glass Child'. "Adrift" is strongly recommended to all those who look for original and heartbreaking music. TLEN (Decay... or Dust) is a Russian dark ambient project, formed in 2008 by Demetrius. Its purposes are the creation of sound landscapes and the structures drawing in consciousness, the atmosphere of loneliness and abandonment. The author doesn't limit himself in choice of sound palette, representing field recordings, sounds of household subjects, digital and analogue synthesizers, acoustic instruments, etc. This eponymus debut was recorded 2008-2011. This recording was requested by the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis following Vultures Quartet's performance at the 2010 Spark Festival of new music. The university provided the performers with some unique on-site instrumentation, including access to a collection of vintage analogue synthesizers, orchestral instruments, and a bursary to purchase scrap metal to make new instruments. The group recorded over four hours of material in the University of Minnesota's Music Department studios. This release is taken from those recordings and marks the first time the group played together as a full quartet. "Sui Generis" ("of its own kind") reflects this new group with unique characteristics. 6-panel digipak.

Side A contains an awesome sidelong track by the two genre defying maestros John Wiese and Lasse Marhaug, recorded live at the Musica Genera Festival in Warsaw in 2009. Side B marks the debut release of Kalong (Jessika Loers and Melani Wratil) from Cologne where this furious mixture of abstract turntablism, laptop noise, sampling bombardement and ethereal voices was also recorded, live in an abandoned cinema in 2010. Both pieces were painstakingly mastered by Marcus Schmickler at Pietopraxis, Cologne. This LP is limited to 300 copies and comes in a beautiful cover, with printed innersleeve, poster and download code. |

One of the most interesting and promising albums this year. Ritual sounds and a mystical atmosphere, which infected those present on their Torun gigs, were captured and transferred perfectly on 'Heart Of A Wolf'. This is the second collaborative album by the industrial legend Z'EV and Hati, the Polish duo from Torun, but it's the first one showing their interaction on stage during their 3rd Polish tour in May 2011. The tour itself was the continuation and development of their new sound project initiated by the joint gig on Unsound Festival in New York Labs in April 2011. This double set also includes the recording of their Gdansk gig and is limited to 423 copies in a stunning 6-panel digipak. |
