This album is a musical extension of a soundtrack produced by Y.E.R.M.O. in collaboration with conceptual and visual artists Nadine Hilbert & Gast Bouschet for the Luxembourg Pavilion at the 53rd Venice Biennial (running till November 2009). The music is an invocation of the coldness and cruelty of a borderzone between two worlds and a transmutation of fear into euphoria. The album is a unique piece of immersive ritual sounds, dominated by loud, distorted guitars, hypnotic percussion and industrial drones within rain-soaked Mediterranean landscapes. Mastered by James Plotkin. Ltd x 500 copies in an ekopack.

YAHOWHA 13 - 'Penetration: An Aquarian Sypmhony' CD (Swordfish)
Easily one of YaHoWha's heaviest offerings, "Penetration, An Aquarian Symphony" is arguably revered as their best - one of the finest sacred, psychedelic death trips of all time. Djin's tripped out guitar work coupled with Zinuru's soundscapes and Father Yod's bellowing moans and chants create some of the most intensely spiritual and epic passages put to tape. Touched & tipped by higher forces you can only dream of - this contains the most intense passages created by the band Ya Ho Wa 13.

YAHOWHA 13 - 'The Operetta' CD (Swordfish)
This album was not released during the active years of the band, but first saw the light of public day in 2005, remastered from an old cassette. Yahowha 13 created this album in a Corte Madera warehouse, just after their return from what is described as an Easter Resurrection in the Great Pyramid in Egypt. The blazing guitar rave-up/ragas, the pounding drum breakdowns, the excursions into semi abstraction which are the heart of the Yahowha 13 sound are still in effect, but here they are immersed in vortex of echo and noise. Warriors for psychic revolution, psychedelic rock adepts - one of a kind scene. Within a few months of this recording Yahowha was killed in a hang gliding accident.

YAN JUN - 'Music For Listening On The Moon' CD (Kwanyin Records)
One hour of continual sound, entwined with the other dim sounds of your room. “Music For Listening On The Moon” is a continuation of “Wormhole Trip OST” (Kwanyin, 2009). "A contemplative album of innerspace travel. The album transcends its humble productions of sinusoidal flutterings of pedal sourced feedback and squiggling aquatic field recordings treated with ring modulation, as Yan seeks a radically different approach to the cosmic listening embarked by the likes of Cluster and Tangerine Dream, whose baroque expansiveness has been subsumed by the vacuum of outerspace, with just those two sources intertwining in an endless mobius strip of silvery drone and pointilist tactility. It sounds more like Steve Roden taking over an Asmus Tietchens album and allowing the electronically treated sounds and tones to organically evolve into a radiant blossom instead of the purposefully cold and sometimes stiff compositions that Tietchens often produces" (Aquarius). YANNICK FRANCK & PIETRO RIPARBELLI - 'Whinny Muir' CD (Silentes Minimal Editions)
A singular long, deep moving, slow and expansive drone-track, built on always changing sonic masses, low frequencies, strong electric-electronic sounds, field recordings, feedback, buzzes, hisses, rough distortion, fading organ chords, cellos and orchestral parts. Alternation of progressive crescendos, ambiental pauses, sudden, dramatic and catchy dynamic shocks. An evolving and extraordinary trip through an obscure sonic journey, convincingly assembled by Italian Pietro Riparbelli (K11, PT-R) and Belgian Yannick Franck. (Y.E.R.M.O., Idiosyncrasia).

YAO 91404 D - 'LenShumZavod' CD (Freak Animal)
Surprisingly, the first CD-proper release by this obscure Russian industrial-noise unit, with several extremely limited releases in their back catalogue from as far back as 2002. This CD marks one of their biggest highlights, with crude physically crafted industrial-noise. Even if it crosses borders towards purity of harsh noise once in a while, the spirit of Soviet factory landscapes is always present. Two long tracks that develop during their playing time to different atmospheres.

YARN - 'Eraltet Gott' CD (Nihil Art)
Yarn is a Russian ambient / raw black metal formation from The Middle Ural. The concept of project is based on the principals of primitivism in art. With the help of minimalism it's possible to open wishful ideas, starting with the composition and finishing by primitivism of sound, going almost into avant-garde. The ideology of the project focuses on the nihilistic notes of genesis, concentrating on estrangement, inner tragedy of overcoming of imposing truths, cold and senselessness to the herd phenomenon. Seclusion with the bosom of the initial world of inviolate nature, overcoming of spiritual “perfect” ideas of society, relying on the savagery of the universe. This debut album presents a conceptual child in the spirit of industrial dark / psycho ambient. Ltd x 500 copies.

YAROVIT - 'Simargl's Call' CD (Nihil Art / CyberBorea)
Yarovit`s music is many-sided and advisedly cannot be confined within the limits of one defined style. Their compositions can be termed heroic rhythmic Ambient-Folk, in some tracks with background guitar, screaming "black" vocals and martial warlike vocals in Russian. Simargl is a deity or mythical creature in East Slavic mythology. Ltd x 500 copies in a jewelcase with runic text throughout.
YEAR OF NO LIGHT - 'Ausserwelt' 2 x LP (Music Fear Satan)
Year Of No Light have recruited two new thirsty mercenaries to their line-up: Shiran, of Uber-doom combo Monarch! and Mathieu, of deviant-electronics act Aeroflot. Out of their cave, they crept into an old theatre to record these 4 tracks, catching every possible vibration of the trembling frame of this enlivened new mansion. All the energy collected there forms "Ausserwelt", the sophomore album of Year Of No Light. Mystical emanations flow out of these riffs colliding into each other to an in ear-splitting shriek. Cranked amps and molested drums hurl their mourning chant as a choir intoning its final psalms at the dawn of the Last Judgment. Year Of No Light follows the path opened by "Nord" towards more sombre psychedelics, creating its own blend of black metal, sludge, drone or any other influence marked with the seal of darkness. An ambiguous electrical network of acting singularities, now ready to afford the collective metaphysical crash to come. Ltd x 500 copies over two slabs of black vinyl in a superb gatefold sleeve.

YEAR OF NO LIGHT - 'Nord' CD (Crucial Blast)
"Nord" is the colossal debut from French ensemble Year Of No Light that was originally released by Radar Swarm in 2006. A heavy, chugging metallic monster that channels both gloomy atmospherics and crushing dirgecore. "Nord" orbits guitar-heavy early 90's alt rock of bands like Swervedriver, Dinosaur Jr. and My Bloody Valentine, just as much as it draws from the crushing metallic post-hardcore pioneered by Old Man Gloom, Neurosis and Godflesh. "Nord" flows seamlessly between passages of ultra melodic post-rock and frenzied bursts of dissonant hardcore, to austere radiant guitar figures and gorgeous ambient drones, to massive doomy dirge metal, utterly gorgeous melodic bliss, and epic riffs, with powerful, strained vocals fighting through their wall of sound. Presented in a Stumptown gatefold sleeve with new artwork.
YELLOW6 - 'When The Leaves Fall Like Snow' 2 x CD (Make Mine Music)
Yellow6 is the solo project of Jon Attwood, a guitarist based in Leicestershire, UK. Since 1995 he has been making home recordings, initially guitar drones, slowly evolving to more structured melodic music including samples, programmed beats, reverb and a large improvisational element. "When The Leaves Fall..." was recorded in Stockholm in 2007. Born out of the isolation of 6 weeks spent in a foreign city, this album is pretty minimal compared to previous releases, but not minimalist. Digifile.

YEN POX - 'Blood Music' 2 x CD (Malignant Records)
15 years after it’s original release, and out of print for almost as long, Yen Pox’ Blood Music has finally been re-issued. Regarded by many as a benchmark recording within the realm of dark ambient music, this deluxe 2CD edition contains a completely re-mastered and remixed version of "Blood Music" plus a previously unreleased track on disc 1, as well as the first cassette and various compilation and 7” releases on disc 2. Combined, the discs offer well over two hours of colossal, mind bending atmospherics of the highest order, the sounds radiating outwards into a sprawling horizon of sulfur dark skies, then descending into a relentless maelstrom of shifting textures, treacherous reverberations, and endless, sinister drift. Packaged in a luxurious 8 panel DVD digipak, with completely new design by Andre Coelho (Sektor 304), this is the perfect marriage of both music and packaging, and will further solidify Blood Music’s status as one of the all time classic dark ambient releases.
Brand new material by this cult project from the US, working with deep e-bass sounds to create an isolationist mass of darkest cosmic ambience, a kind of "black hole" ur-drone. When you put this on you are immediately touched by the cold breath of an amorph "otherness". This sound is so monumental and complex that it seems to suspend not only the mind but also the physis, and you experience intensely that both are the same anyway. There's something in this music that lets you really shiver and feel levitated at the same time. Gloriously, the self is dissolving. Ltd x 500 copies on black vinyl in a spot-varnished sleeve, with artwork by the great artist & photographer Eyelyft.

YOB - 'The Great Cessation' CD (Profound Lore Records)
The heaviest, darkest, most oppressive sounding and varied Yob album to date. With the behemoth-like monolithically paced traditional “cosmic” doom sounds that have helped define Yob’s sound over the years, Yob also incorporate new elements that give “The Great Cessation” a pummeling energetic vibe like no other Yob album, while at the same time delivering even more plunging abysmal dirge-like histrionics that go so far as to even render moments on “The Great Cessation” as blasphemous and evil. In true Yob tradition, the album ends with the 20-minute title track, which ends the album in that surging victorious moment; in the most epic of moments. A 2-LP edition was later issued on Southern Lord. Digipak.

YRSEL - 'Requiem For The Three Kharites' CD (Aurora Borealis)
Yrsel create complex, multi-layered and highly atmospheric music that fully explodes the genres of drone, doom, and electronica resulting in a glorious glacial melt of sound and texture. Yrsel is a collaboration between The Austrasian Goat, primarily an experimental Doom / Black Metal project, and Ondo, an equally prolific dark electronica project. Conceptually, the album deals with the Three Graces (Kharites) of Greek mythology, symbols of grace, beauty, pleasure, and the creative impulse. A requiem for the loss of culture in an ever spiraling material world, a twilight ode to the mythic manifestation of our higher faculties. In this context the drones, glitches and whispers form the perfect soundtrack to such dark materials. The album dissolves slowly from its thunderous opening, finally leaving the listener in a deep void of palpable loss. Ltd x 500 copies in a deluxe silkscreened wallet.

YUI ONODERA & THE BEAUTIFUL SCHIZOPHONIC - 'Radiance' CD (Basses Frequences)
"It's been a while since we last heard of Jorge Mantas, also known as The Beautiful Schizophonic, who plays 'sentimental laptop, paper, metal, glass, pink balloons and melancholic field recordings' and is one of the few to play bittersweet microsound music, which he does quite nicely. Here he teams up with Yui Onodera (laptop, environmental sound, electronics, piano, guitar, voice and found objects). That's seems an awful lot of instruments and sound generators for what we hear in the five tracks they recorded no doubt through e-mail. But I guess it takes the best of both. The minimal approach of Onodera is present here of course, but soft melancholy is brought in by Mantas, and leads to a highly refined album of minimal ambient music... a great combination electronics, field recordings and real instruments" (Vital Weekly). Ltd x 500 copies.
