Powerhouse split release between the Los Angeles based noise/grind collective Actuary and noise/power violence pioneers Bastard Noise. Actuary bring two brutal, earth shaking tracks to the A-side of this release, using synths, bass, oscillators and other electronics to paint dark, ambient and harsh soundscapes. Bastard Noise (Wood, Wellman, Gribenas) bring up the B-side of this release with dark synth drones, ear shearing and crunchy oscillator sounds, layered with screams of anguish and pain, they dedicate their side to the late Rick Gribenas and their dear friend and collaborator Henry Barnes. Stunning smokey grey vinyl in a thick gatefold cover, with artwork by Kevin Fetus.

AERE AETERNUS - 'Humanity Needs No Funeral' LP (Kaosthetik Konspiration)
The first full-length album from French act Aere Aeternus. Some of you will recognise the name from their tracks on 'The Obsolete View' compilation. The dominant atmosphere combines a sense of impending insanity with sexual deviancy and a large dollop of occultism, creating a dark and troubling misanthropic sojourn that is relatively unique. The final track is probably the most musical, as it is centred on a guitar arpeggio, but no such concessions to convention are present elsewhere on this deeply troubling disk. ALTAR OF FLIES / SEWER ELECTION - 'Split' LP (Release The Bats)
Split slab of vinyl from two of the best acts currently dwelling in the depths of the Swedish underground scene. Altar Of Flies continues with his dark and eerie forest rumblings. Buried claustrophobic lo-fi insanity straight from hell with heavy outbursts of feedback, which could have been outtakes from an old Dario Argento soundtrack. Sewer Election fill the flipside with the nasty "Rotten Corpse" - a crude and disgusting piece full of monotonous, freezing coldness. Mean-spirited ugliness from both bands. ANCESTRAL HOUSE OF THE SUN - 'Ancestral House Of The Sun' LP (CTS Productions)
Ancestral House Of The Sun is the solo moniker of Greek artist Serafim Grigoriou. Though under the banner of acoustic / wyrd / progressive folk, Ancestral House Of The Sun has a certain epic, experimental quality to it that definitely makes it stand out. Unlike most folk music, Ancestral House Of The Sun doesn't follow strict, pre-determined 'pop' structural patterns It's an unusual, yet refreshing, pairing of folk and experimental acoustic. Ancestral House Of the Sun does a fine job of creating interesting atmospheric landscapes and intimate overtones to accent the guitar and enhance the mood of each song. Ancestral House Of The Sun deserves a quiet room and little distraction, for the details are what make this music come alive and keep your attention. ANIMAL MACHINE - 'Disposable Masochrist Doll' SINGLE SIDED 12" (None)
Great vinyl from this Polish Noise act. Originally released on a very limited tape in 2010 (Invaginity, Ltd x 30). Three devastating cuts of white noise, dynamic harshness, masses of low frequencies and cut-up noise, sometimes giving way to electronic driftscapes, overflowing with frenetic pulses. The highly anticipated new album by the Swedish duo (Henry Möller of Puissance and Marten Björkman) is finally upon us. The sense of determination that echoes through their music and which has brought them to the forefront of Martial / Industrial Neo-Classical scene has stayed untouched. "Omne Ensis Impera" introduces an additional strength to Arditi's compositions - epic orchestral loops and thunderous percussions are granted a more prominent role, stirring the damp and suffocating ambiance that the duo have always produced so well with their use of ominous synths, obscure speeches and mesmerizing narrations. "Omne Ensis Impera" could well be a modern interpretation of the Futurist's goal of glorifying warfare to an artistic expression beyond its inherent violence and intrinsic sense of heroism. Mastered by Kamrat Nordvargr (MZ. 412, Toroidh etc), who also contributed to additional arrangements on a couple of tracks. Ltd x 300 copies on black vinyl.
ARDITI - 'Standards Of Triumph' LP (Equilibrium Music)
Boasting the unique personality of Swedish combo H. Möller (Puissance) and M. Björkman, "Standards of Triumph" taps further into the darker tones of Militaristic Neoclassical ambiance that has become the band's trademark, resulting in their strongest effort so far - ever effective in their use of crushing orchestrations and evocative speeches, Arditi hereby drags the listener around muddy trenches, leaving aside overly pompous festive marches or alcohol fuelled merry bunker songs which seem to have become the norm as of late, and casting an hypnotizing veil over the turmoil of warfare-inspired Industrial soundscapes. Ltd x 500 copies in a heavy gatefold sleeve with A2 poster.
Artificial Memory Trace is the long standing musical project of Czech artist Slavek Kwi, currently based Ireland. Since 2007 Slavek has assisted Francisco López in his Mamori workshops in the Amazonian forest, which is where some of the source material present on this LP originates. 2 sides of 'decomposed and recomposed' landscapes and details, mostly centred around the Boto, also known as Amazon River Dolphin or Pink Dolphin. Just as the Boto is rumoured to undergo human-like transformations, most of this record is about transformation: sounds are isolated, cut, scaled up or down, modified and finally reassembled in a delicate and quite peaceful collage. At times enigmatic, intimate and pastoral, it is a work that will slowly reveal its nuances. Mastered by James Plotkin. Ltd x 250 numbered copies.
Side-project of IRIKARAH. This LP takes the listener on a delightful journey into sound's wealth and abundance. Most of the album is very soundtrack-oriented with deep and complex dark ritual atmospheres and neo-classical instrumentations. High-tech ambient compositions with some scarce vocal samples. Rich in clear sounds and hypnotizing rhythms. Based on Norse myths. An excellent piece, and only a handful in stock! Limited to just 400 copies.

ATAVIST - 'Atavist' 2 x LP (Invada)
Atavist's debut album is already being hailed as a new doom classic. Atavist are a 4 piece band from Manchester who have have recently toured with Khanate and have played with amongst others, Asva, Esoteric and Gonga. "Their riffs aren't just heavy, they're so batteringly, destroyingly crushing that they remain exhilarating even when single notes hang out for an eternity before the next one rams into your ears with the force of an a-bomb" (Kerrang). File next to Earth, Pelican, Boris. Limited edition in a gatefold sleeve.
"The doom sound is instantly recognisable, complete with rasping vocals - an ultra-heavy onslaught. That’s the known and well-explored ground. But from here, Batillus moves towards irresistible, heavy riffing psych, while Ryan Fairfield’s Hallowed Butchery project fires a pistol to transcend the mossy caves and to throw fits of shoegazing prog doom. This is a brilliant doom metal split—the Batillus side rules, because the American four-piece works so effectively and freshly within the known framework. The Hallowed Butchery side is even better because he does the same, and much more, transcending the confines of the genre" (Foxy Digitalis). Mastered by James Plotkin and beautifully packaged. On Side A FITH offers a fast paced whirlwind of unrelenting noise complemented by ambient interludes, frantic samples, and rhythmic mayhem. Side B features the forsaken death industrial tinged power electronics of Salem, MA based Bereft. The brothers in arms behind this 2 man operation being Peter Lee of the long-running Force of Nature label, and Andy Grant who solos as The Vomit Arsonist. BIRCH BOOK - 'Fortune & Folly' LP (Ahnstern / Steinklang)
This classic Folk milestone was recorded on San Juan Island of the Pacific Northwest. "Fortune & Folly" is the fitting second volume of Birch Book (aka In Gowan Ring). Assuming the allegorical emblems of The Wheel of Fortune and The Traveling Fool, Fortune & Folly distill the introspections of a perennial rambler reckoning the Bitter and the Bliss of The Road Less Traveled. Drifting away from the overtly psychedelic, medieval, and soporific atmosphere which typified In Gowan Ring, Bee (Jon Michael Beirth) displays a more organic, individualistic approach to songwriting. Fortune & Folly blends elements of idiosyncratic folk-pop and outcast-country with brooding layers of sound and sense, yielding a spectral ethereality in a captivating chiaroscuro thick with the visionary allusions of a haunted wanderer. BIRDS BUILD NESTS UNDERGROUND & MY CAT IS AN ALIEN - 'Gramofonu = Voice Of The Universe' LP (Love Nest / Opax)
The first meeting of two improv acts, Prague-based turntable & 8mm band Birds Build Nests Underground and Italian psychedelic troubadours My Cat Is An Alien. Two different approaches to music make a sound that takes both from the unknown realms of the outer space and from the somehow-well-known world of old cracking records and the music and sounds on them. BBNU provided some of their live improvisations, MCIAA then chose those close to their hearts and laced them with sounds of guitars, space toys & ray guns, wordless singing and alientronics. Never has music of the spheres crackled so nicely. As if the whole galaxy lies on a giant turntable. The record starts with an exciting, ecstatic and excellent improvised speech by a Czech avant-garde poet Vtezslav Nezval who sees the whole world through his glass and the glass in the window of a recording studio. Ltd x 300 copies in a pro-printed sleeve.
After producing their frozen trilogy of intoxicated dronemuzik for the Agency, these Scandinavian gentlemen have ventured into more absurdist territories through fictionalised soundtracks for imagined Mondo films and science fiction serials. It is in this context that BJ Nilsen & Stilluppsteypa present the apparitional "Big Shadow Montana", an album of slow-motion delirium manifested in occluded smears, nocturnal gasps, and arcane tones from a variety of analogue synthesizers. A spiraling symphony of bubbling electronics and spectral drones that mutate on both sides of the record into lugubrious yet carnivalesque waltzes. A pyrrhic jubilation of calliope harmonies set down by organs and synths turning a pale-blue hue in the wake of all that white skin shivering underneath the arctic sky. Comes with a download code.

BLOOD AXIS - 'Born Again' 2 x LP (Storm)
Over the course of the 12 tracks which comprise their 2nd album, "Born Again", Blood Axis explores an epic yet human universe in which gods are summoned, kingdoms rise, riddles are unlocked, love is lost, and worlds crumble. Whereas early Blood Axis music was marked by keyboards and samples, Blood Axis in 2010 is stripped down to an essential core of natural instrumentation - electric and acoustic strings, melodeon, piano, highland bagpipes and Galician gaita, marching percussion, the mysterious Annabel-a-tron, and Bobby BeauSoleil's growling, prison-vintage guitar eruptions circa 1976. Underpinning the album and propelling much of the music is the traditional Irish bodhrán, recorded here with unprecedented power. Moynihan's ominous voice is well matched by Annabel Lee's elfin intonations, just as her violin finds a perfect counterpoint in Robert Ferbrache's protean guitar parts. Shot through by myth and romance, the expressive lyrics on "Born Again" have their roots in ancient and modern poetry, archaic invocations and tragic laments. Both unclassifiable and unforgettable: neither folk nor rock, traditional nor avant-garde, modern nor archaic, it is simply Blood Axis. To everything there is season. For those who are cursed, a time to die and to be forgotten. And for the blessed, a time to be born again: to live on, beyond death, in the minds of men. BOYD RICE AND FRIENDS - 'Music, Martinis And Misanthropy' Picture Disc LP (NER)

Music Martinis & Misanthropy came out 21 years ago. There is no need for an age of consent to unwrap all its gifts but it feels damn nice to be 21 and this is a gift, from us to you: 2 tracks from the original release, one from the CD reissue and two new. Pressed in mint green vinyl and limited to 666 numbered copies, housed in a UV spot varnished cover and with six postcards and a lyrics inner... Life feels great."
This album showcases 5 tracks of abandoned sludge trudge - a brutal mix of post punk style, No Wave and free proto-metal. If you enjoy music which evokes the sound of overly caffeined baby elephants slopping about in oily puddles, that have formed outside a former Soviet chemical factory, then this is the album for you. Formed in 1999 and fronted by bass player / singer Julian Cope and guitarist Doggen, the most dramatic change in the sound comes from new drummer Mr E, whose punctuating style of drumming echoes Sabbath's Bill Ward and Grand Funk's Don Brewer. This places greater emphasis on the rhythm section, in places even adding elements of brutal stop/start skank in the Jah Wobble period PIL tradition. File next to Comets On Fire. CELER - 'Vestiges Of An Inherent Melancholy' LP (Blackest Rainbow)
Second vinyl LP from this formerly active American duo of Will Long and Danielle Baquet-Long. "Vestiges Of An Inherent Melancholy" features 2 sides of unearthed recordings that were created between December 2006 and July 2008. The duo create some truly beautiful drone works with their use of an organic and electronic palette of instrumentation; cello, violin, pipe organ, electronics, tape, field recordings, samples, and mixing board. This really is a standout side from Celer, pulling together their variety of sounds to make a heart breaking collage of sounds falling between beautiful dream tones and heavier dark moments. The album pushes Celer further to the front of modern minimal composition, creating some of the finest and most beautiful, fragile drone records around. CHANGES - 'A Ripple In Time' LP (White Label)
US Neofolk. "When the concept for this album was in its seminal stages, we came to the realization that there were several songs from Changes' earlier years which had yet to be released in any form. Some had been recorded on early "demo" tapes while others had not. Thus, it was decided that instead of using previously recorded tracks, we would return to the studio to create new renditions of these songs. Additionally, the arrangements, bridges, and harmonies were enhanced to better reflect our current style. Also included in this album are three new songs... Essentially, the album bridges the years from Changes' inception to its present incarnation." White vinyl in an embossed and gold-foiled heavy gatefold cover. Ltd edition of 700 numbered copies! CINDYTALK & PHILIPPE PETIT - 'A Question Of Re-Entry' 12" (Lumberton Trading Company)
Two incredible collaborative pieces by France's prolific Philippe Petit and Scottish goup Cindytalk built around piano, electronics, voice and that kinda trans-dimensional murmur and crackle we already love both of them for. Some background info: Cindytalk has existed since the early 1980s and, helmed by founder Gordon Sharp, survivor of the original Scottish punk scene, ex-member of The Freeze and open transgender warrior, has swung from being a band to a solo concern and back again. Philippe Petit, meanwhile, commenced his music career through the running of the highly respected Pandemonium Rdz. and BiP_HOp. A musical travel agent creating adventurous soundworlds, who in recent years has been found on a number of labels in collaboration with a number of eclectic artists including James Johnston, Lydia Lunch, K11 and Cosey Fanni Tutti. CIRCLE - 'Rautatie' LP (Full Contact Records / Svart Records)
Clear vinyl edition of this 2010 album. Circle is ever changing, ever Circular. On "Rautatie" the Finnish six-piece once again dives into uncharted waters of music, into a miasma of influences that feels vaguely familiar but, in an uncanny way, is not quite real. "Rautatie" is epic hard rock and colossal riffs that corrode into fragments of black metallic atonality over time. Occasionally the album’s majestic elements step aside and let sprinkles of athletic boogie take the center stage. Together the eight tracks on the album form a hard rocking bullet train, speeding ever onwards on a circular railroad to infinity.
This release gathers recordings for a session at WFMU, recorded during their second US tour and captured live on the 25th September 2007. Spread over the four sides are the six cuts which made up Circle’s second session for WFMU, once more capturing the self-proclaimed New Wave of Finnish Heavy Metal outfit proving themselves to be almost everything but ‘Heavy Metal’ despite possessing the only too apparent ability to compete with the best amongst that world. Taking in operatic vocals, unearthly mulch, psychedelic splurge, nods towards folk and krautrock, and mammoth riffs capable of knocking down nearby buildings, avant-rock has rarely arrived both so potent and in dire need of a straitjacket before. Presented in a stunning glossy gatefold sleeve!
Jim Filer Coleman, better known for his membership of Cop Shoot Cop or Baby Zizanie. A great collection of "innovative examples of pure neo-electro, post-experimentalism, not of this world. Melodic soundscapes and backwards futuristic pop for the year 3000". COMPOUND EYE - 'Origin Of Silence' LP (The Spring Press)
"Origin Of Silence" is the first release by Compound Eye, a long-standing collaboration between Drew McDowall (ex-Coil and Psychic TV) and Tres Warren (Psychic Ills and Messages). These electronic based experimentations employ automatic composition, drone and musique concréte to create subterranean explorations on the nature of signals and time. "This one sort of takes off on a post-Time Machines / Eternal Music vibe but with an exacting minimalist logic that would locate distant Morse Code tones and blurry EVP sightings on the very fringes of liminality. There are vague, nagging melodies that could almost come out of the Goblin / Suspiria song book alongside long passages of single tone narcosis that feel like transports to the other side. The whole recording has that indefinable / occult atmosphere that marked out the more exploratory Coil sides. A beautifully spooked modern minimalist classic, highly recommended." (David Keenan). CONTAGIOUS ORGASM - 'One Drop Water' LP (Record Label Records)
This is the alias of Hiroshi Hashimoto. The first cut 'At The National Border' is stunning with it's electronic bleeps, bells and strings which make way for a breathtaking vocal surrounded by a chorus of vocal drones. I can imagine this soundtracking an epic Samurai movie. Just when you think things couldn't any better the track switches gear and I'm left in goosebump city. 'Wavelength To Amplify' has Hiroshi bring the noise with pounding drums, manipulated samples and acidic squiggles perhaps recalling bits of Meat Beat Manifesto. 'Acid Rain 2' on the B-side has some brain melting synthesizer sounds give way to a piano motif, congas, melancholy strings and sampled dialogue then a big thumping slow and heavy kick drum drops by. Highly original audio which is increasingly rare these days. Baby pink vinyl in a PVC archive sleeve.

CONTROL UNIT - 'The Fugitives' LP (Backwards)
The mighty New York guitarist Ninni Morgia, usually devoted to experimental, improv, free-jazz and avant-garde, turns himself for this occasion into a real Industrial musician, together with his companion Silvia Kastel, a young multi-instrumentalist and vocalist with a strong attitude for the bleak and jarring sounds from the first industrial music wave. "The Fugitives" sounds like a perfect car-crash between the early US and English industrial scenes, influenced by 'great Industrial music from 1978' (Factrix, Throbbing Gristle, Cabaret Voltaire). Four intense episodes of pure madness, obscure and sensual at the same time, thanks to Morgia's devastating technique and delirious strings, and Kastel's hypnotic groans, biting screams and caustic, powerful synthetic raids. CRISIS - 'Hymns Of Faith' 12" (La Vida Es Un Mus)
Re-release for the first time on vinyl, since it's original release in may 1980 - the one and only 7 track album from seminal radical and political punk / post punk band Crisis. 'Hymns Of Faith' was Crisis at their more reserved. The guitar was more innovative than on the punk anthems on their earlier singles, but the lyrics were just as politically bitter. Lyrically the album deals with subjects such as TV, violence, totalitarian Russia and European terrorist organisations. This was their last effort, as it had all begun to fall apart by this time for Crisis, with the band members going in different directions. Douglas P. went on to form Death In June with Tony Wakeford (Sol Invictus), and Luke Rendall went on to form Theatre Of Hate. 30 years since its release 'Hymns Of Faith' still sounds vital and honest. DAO & COH - 'Dzerzhinsk-9' LP (Tourette)
Russia has had an incredibly interesting and mostly uncredited underground electronic scene for some time. One of its flag bearers has been Ivan Pavlov (CoH). He has collaborated with Throbbing Gristle members Cosey Fanny Tutti and Peter Christopherson (as Soi Song). The LP is culled from 1996 recordings which were made with DAO (Andrej Dao Kolesov). DAO + CoH uses bass, guitars and custom ZX Spectrum and the results are pretty damn awesome. There is a distinct 90‘s flavour and yet it retains a freshness. ‘Propharadeia’ is a really driving track that makes me shake my body from finger to toe. ‘Oka’ is dark and sinister coming through like an Autechre / Muslimgauze hybrid, seething with eastern paranoia. ‘Sung In Sand' continues the eastern flavour with its building intricate yet subtle percussion and swooping synths. DARK AGES - 'A Chronicle Of The Plague' LP (Northern Heritage / Freak Animal)
Dark Age's second album continues offering us minimalist Dark Ambient, this time more melodic than before, and inspired on the horrors of the Middle Ages. Between the fall of the Western Roman empire in A.D. 476 and the fall of Constantinople in 1453, Europe was ravaged by plagues and superstition. Greek was largely forgotten, and with it much of the learned texts of antiquity. 'A Chronicle of the Plague' is a musical tale of the terror of 1349, which depopulated entire villages and decimated Europe's human population; the disease was not understood at the time, and therefore it was assumed to have been the wrathful punishment from the Judaeo-Christian Deity. Alas, prayers were of no avail... Project from member of Ukrainian BM act Hate Forest. Ltd x 250 copies.

DEADWOOD - 'Ramblack' LP (Cold Spring CSR104LP)
“Ramblack" is the follow up to Deadwood's successful 2005 album "8 19" (CSR53CD). Over the past 3 years this Swedish artist has been toiling away, creating a new black ambient / death noise masterpiece and "Ramblack" is the result. Cloaked in a more raw and morbid sound then its predecessor, this album truly changes ones perspective of audial darkness. This analogue beast of an album layers the tonal prayers of demons and the distorted cries of angels, sickness and depravity. True Death Electronics. The soundtrack to your end. "Ramblack" features guest vocals from Norwegian Black Metal legend Maniac (Skitliv, ex-Mayhem), whose vocal approach on the song 'Forakt' shows the full range of his capacity. Truly one of the most sick and twisted pieces of sonic art ever recorded. Enjoy the disease!

DER BLUTHARSCH - 'Flying High!' 2 x LP (WKN)
On their ninth studio album Der Blutharsch continues travelling in the direction they took back in 2005, when the former gurus of martial industrial / military pop rocketed towards the deep space of psychedelia. DERNIERE VOLONTE - 'Immortel' LP & 7" (Hau Ruck!)
Dernière Volonté's 5th studio album took 4 years in making and marks their 15th anniversary! It is a huge development from the former style which redefined the term "military pop" to a more homogeneous, less neoclassical but much more modern in sounds, more electronic but organic at the same time - and reinvents a style Geoffroy D has been influenced since his early days. The themes on "Immortel" are effected by books, movies or personal experiences of Geoffroy but reflect in general his personal feelings about beloved people and their spirit which is and always will be present in our souls and memories. "Immortel" is another milestone in the oeuvre of one of France`s most interesting band from the underground scene and will for sure attract fans from the early days but a lot of new fans from other musical scenes. Singular work from this Dutch-born Belgian composer who isolates elements from The Conet Project’s macabre collection of secret shortwave "number stations" and assembles them in massively brooding late night dronescapes, repeat tone clusters and flashes of phantom electricity. FABIO ORSI - 'Von Zeit Zu Zeit' LP (Backwards)
This composition was recorded live in Berlin, 2010, edited and mastered by Fabio Orsi in late 2011. Orsi plays synth, guitar and filters and, for once, he just puts aside the warmth of the melodies and the samplings from the endless Alan Lomax archives, so close to the culture of his homeland. This time, he proposes two obscure and cold tracks, comparable to kosmische musik inspired by Berlin. This cold, early darkness turns into an oneiric remembrance, a daydream... The sounds of these two compositions make the listener's mind float in space and, mostly on the second side of the record, the music gets warmer, rarefied and ambient, with a seductive hypnotic power. FREIBAND - 'Stainless Steel' LP (Ini.Itu)
What Freiband proposes here is 2 sides of radically reworked gamelan. Side A seems to progress through an acid bath and take the magnifying glass to enhance the digital decays, evoking various stages of textural corrosion. Through these aggressive and irreverent treatments, the naturally metallic harmonics are by twist and turns abruptly dismantled and fractured into crunchy, dense and fuzzy fireworks. On side B, through some arcane wiring, some machines end up spitting out shifting binary patterns with a somewhat alienating feeling. The at-first-glance bizarre pairing of these two instruments might conjure up images of anchorless skronk and scratch, however “The Line Across” is anything but. With each side of the vinyl containing just the one ambitious piece, this duo creates seas of organic drone that live and breathe. Wisps of smoke, tones of exotica and melancholy... the sound of flickering reflections in canal tunnels, something beyond drone and soundscaping... raw guitar sequences... textures from foreboding trails of drones... layered stately string sounds and the chiaroscuro of feedback and waves of black moving across the vinyl. GENGHIS TRON - 'Board Up The House Remixes Vol. 5' 12" (Crucial Blast)
If Genghis Tron's frayed and sparking mix of aggressive mathcore and electronics wasn't innovative enough, they've embarked on an ambitious multi-label remix project following their first album, "Board Up The House". The three tracks on the fifth and final edition comes wrapped in layers of distortion at once atmospheric and damaging. Tim Hecker's take on the title track is a slow thaw of icy electronic texture, and the Nadja remix of "I Won't Come Back Alive" stretches it out to fifteen minutes of buried drum hits and chilly synths. The final track is a distorted electro remix of "I Won't Come Back Alive" by Dudes You Can Trust. Ltd x 1000 copies on magenta / mint green marbled vinyl.

GNAW THEIR TONGUES - 'L'Arrivee De La Terne Mort Triomphante - Black' LP (Burning World Records)
Gnaw Their Tongues transcend genres, creating their own distinct sound. Descriptors include ambient black metal, funeral doom metal, industrial drone etc. Instrumentation relies heavily on keyboards and percussion, with the drumming looming in the distance like a hideous parade before a battle is set loose. Monk-like choirs, industrial emanations, bizarre samples, occasional shrieks and droning, abused guitars are all on display, brought together almost unwillingly to share the same stage. Lyrically, L’Arrivee de la Terne Mort Triomphante is a concept album about death (“morte”). Songs describe the white throne of death, address the song of death and praise death’s majesty and grandeur. For many listeners, "L’Arrivee de la Terne Mort Triomphante" will be little more than noise or frustratingly dull drone. However, fans of the outré of the genre, where bands such as Sunn O))) and Throbbing Gristle practice their art, will find much to uncover and savour. Under the anger and fear there is joy, sadness, selfishness, and self-discovery. All you have to do is let these find you. Ltd x 750 copies on black vinyl in a deluxe gatefold sleeve.
GNOD / A MIDDLE SEX - 'Split' LP (Blackest Rainbow)
Split LP from fellow Manchester weirdos A Middle Sex and Gnod. Gnod follow on from some killer releases over the last couple of years, with Bong, White Hills etc. 'Why Don't You Smile Like The Other Children?' opens with hazy strings and cosmicly far out voices, this slow groove packs a multi-coloured burst of rhythmic psychedelic vibes. On the flip side, A Middle Sex take up duties of doing some equally psychedelic, but in a completely different style. Their side is titled 'Polytheism' and is essentially made up of two tracks, the opener is a short wild spaced out cosmic synth piece, which is swiftly followed by a main 10 minute piece of layered drums and percussion, swirling electronics, distorted chanted vocals. Their side is all about the rhythm. Pressed on 140 gram virgin vinyl. Ltd x 500 copies.
First offering from this new UK label. GODDAM OX supply a single exclusive track; at first reminiscent of latter day Earth, snail's pace ethereal sun-baked drone with subtle guitars picked out over minimal drumming, slowly progressing without over-loading the senses until turning to more bleak funereal dirge-doom, before a torturous crescendo of noise and feedback. HADDONFIELD, ILLINOIS on the other hand offer a completely different prospect, armed with a soundtrack perfect for an undead holocaust, inspired by the likes of Goblin and Carpenter... Four tracks of industrial-tinged horrorscapes and ambience. Mastered by James Plotkin (Old, Khanate). Ltd x 300 hand-numbered copies with insert.

Two live in studio scrap metal recordings from Hal Hutchinson (Pollutive Static) that utilise an approach called 'Factory of Metal Sound'. This technique allows for the artist to assemble a sonic machine using unwanted industrial products, taking a form of sound recording that has always been essentially 'free form' and 'open'. HALLOWED BUTCHERY - 'Funeral Rites For The Living' LP (Vendetta Records)
Though this one-man project ostensibly falls within doom's murky sphere it manages to cut through a variety of subterranean genres with a cold blade, effectively providing a cross section of all things dour and gloomy. The first thing you'll notice are the trudging atonal riffs and unearthly rasps, but closer inspection reveals wisps of industrial static, droning melancholy and vague traces of forgotten folk, suggesting that while a debt may well be owed to the likes of Burning Witch and Thergothon, the album's creator is also more than au fait with the further-flung territory mapped out by the likes of Gnaw Their Tongues, Coil and Nadja. HARVESTMAN - 'In A Dark Tongue - Black' 2 x LP (Burning World Records)

HEAVY WINGED - 'Waking / Shaking' LP (Aurora Borealis)
The vinyl-only "Waking, Shaking" release consists of two lengthy tracks: 'Tidal Blackness' is a 23 minute cloud of improvised guitar and bass drone, underpinned with sparse percussive elements and dappled with the rays of ethereal melodies. This track, recorded live in Oakland in 2008, represents the more gentle side of Heavy Winged in some ways and is largely soothing. The second side harbors 'Morning Flesh'; 18 minutes that veer towards the caveman Krautrock of the recent "Alive In My Mouth" LP, drums pounding, Neanderthal guitar chugging, though with a melodic haze drifting across the musical landscape like a lysergic mistral, leading the listener ever further into the shifting sands of the forbidden zone.. INADE - 'The Incarnation Of The Solar Architects' 2 x LP (Loki Foundation)
There is a world that shadows our world; a world of mysterious design and unspoken secrets; of space that breathes and infinite echoes that never cease to cry. Mirrors that refract images into dark pools of cosmic nothingness. Inade explore these worlds on their latest masterpiece, in which sound is utilised in a transformative manner, not only to focus on that which lies beyond and that which has never been seen, but to embrace the Darkness and let it wash over one's soul. The mythology that Inade has created touches that place beyond forever, yet now, through the insistence of that which lurks in the margins, a metamorphosis has transpired, in which the cosmos of self has awakened. Inade provide the soundtrack... the frisson of unease is abundant, a churning, seething dread that veers into awe. It's up to the individual listener to listen intently, behind shuttered eyelids... to see and experience the true labyrinthine hierarchy of black splendor that awaits. Ltd x 344 copies on black vinyl in a stunning gatefold sleeve.
The first Incapacitants vinyl LP album in 20 years, since the legendary "Repo" (Alchemy Records, 1989). After their well received full length works released via Tesco and Loki both German units now dig deeper into their cosmos of sound with this split EP. A brilliant slice of sonicscape-ambient, like a thick black stream of plasma crawling from places we are not yet ready to go. Places where thoughts and desires, fears and pain manifest in reality. Majestic waves of droning sound and pulsations overlayed by whispering vocal samples, cavernous resonances and dark analogue machine noises. A deep shivering cosmic ambient work beyond the edge of the imaginable. Limited edition of 475 copies.
On the theme of alchemy and the topics of shame vs. bodily self infliction, IRM makes way for a new start after the inspired “Virgin Mind” double-disc set from 2005. These are new Power Electronics / Industrial recordings with the new member Mikael Oretoft joining on bass. Two long tracks - the first being an intense up-building, deep pulsating number with both spoken and rough vocals, volcanic exaggerated bass noise and doom-laden atmosphere. JENNIFER GENTLE - 'Live In The House Of God' SINGLE SIDED 12" (A Silent Place)
Recorded in an empty, deconsecrated church in summer 2003, this LP is another installment in an on-going series of records documenting the weird life of Jennifer Gentle in the foggy plains of Northern Italy. Basically the sound of JG's mainman Marco Fasolo going wild with an old, battered electronic piano and a bunch of sound effects, "Live at the House of God" is a side-long improvisation sharing the same spirit of those 20-minutes keyboard freak-outs Sun Ra used to record in the late 60s. Alternatively spacey and noisy, the piece is a dark, often unnerving exploration in sound, shimmering all the way through with a distinct Krautrock / early Cluster vibe. The new owners of the church were horrified and outraged by the sheer loudness of the performance, but God liked it a lot. Single-sided white vinyl in a deluxe spot-varnished sleeve with insert. KARL BOSMANN feat. JAN VAN DEN DOBBELSTEEN / ULTRA MILKMAIDS / HIROSHI HASEGAWA - 'Levoton - RED / BLACK MARBLED' LP (Psych.KG)
"The original on one side and the remixes on the other side. Karl Bösmann plays zither, bows, voice, hammer, ventillation, timpani, trumpet and trombone in the twenty minute title piece. I usually quite like his work and this new piece is no different. It seems to creating a hiatus with his older work in that it all seems to be derived from acoustic sound sources, rather than electronics. Its slowly building up, layer by layer and from a certain point on a moire like effect takes place, of shifting sounds, moving in and out of the mix. A fine complexity of dense sounds arrives and has a weird, almost avant-folk like character. The first remix is by Jan van den Dobbelsteen, The Netherlands' more conceptual composer. I have no idea what he did to the material, but 'radical rework' surely applies here. A static beep, like an alarm clock, repeated over and over. Ultra Milkmaids also do a form of reduction but in a more musical way, bringing everything down to just a few meandering organ like sounds. Hiroshi Hasegawa (Astro), on the other hand does what he does best, which is putting down a fine psychedelic mix of noise like sounds. Three entirely different remixes, none of which resembles the original at all. Now that's what I call a great remix project" (Vital Weekly). KASPER VAN HOEK - 'Minerva - Special Edition' LP (KVH)
Private release from Kasper Van Hoek, made for his final exam at the Groningen art academy, Minerva. "..Van Hoek uses old cassette players, turntables, speakers, microphones, mixers and in the studio the computer, using field recordings as their source, but also feedback generated sound... Van Hoek crosses the lines between the non rhythmic Pan Sonic, and combines it with nice, but not all too harsh noise and leap frogs into the world of drone. His use of loops prevents this to be much in the world of musique concrete, but there too lies some of his interest... a most enjoyable album of experimental music" [FdW]. KK NULL - 'Outer Bounds Of Sound' LP (Noiseville)
KK Null is one of Japan's finest, and most admired experimental music composers ever. This album is loud, abrasive and out there, and it is just what you'd hoped it would sound like. He is able to sculpt noise like clay into an image as equally dark as light, artistic and savage, submissive and dominant, the most sublime of the most painful of art. This is uneasy listening, to the max. "Outer Bounds Of Sound" is an experimental LP series from Noiseville. Each release is pressed in an edition of just 300 copies with a hand-made cover. KNURL - 'Reactance' LP (Wintage Records & Tapes)
After nearly two decades of creating car crash reality and damaged ear bleed sound, Canada’s king of scrap-metal harshness, Knurl, releases his first ever LP. Delivering a furnace blast of searing frequencies, Knurl utilises his trademark saw-blades, chains and metal files to full effect leaving nothing but a husk of melted electronics and a pile of smouldering wires. Knurl brings out the barb-wire violin creating scorching drones baked under a hot desert sun, eventually left to melt and congeal with tortured electronics forming in to one nasty pool of mercury and chaos. Steel on steel, metal on metal, rust on rust. White jackets with front and back screen-printing. Knurl, “Reactance”. Ltd x 300 numbered copies with insert.
KNO is a collaborative project between Swedish industrial legend Peter Nystrom (Megaptera, Negru Voda), and Norwegian up and comer Kristoffer Oustad (V:28, Plague Machinery). Welcome to Overlook Hotel, where every room has a ghost, and every room has a story to tell. Travel the hallways and explore, as you venture into a cerebral musical state, where ghostly transmissions and hypnotic layers of surreal, ethereal atmospheres intersect with disembodied voices, clattering, furnace blasting percussion, and of course, healthy injections of true, old fashioned Death Industrial noise and sweeping doom, done in the best Scandinavian style. The pacing of the album is truly impeccable, flowing seamlessly from to track, as if moving from room to room in a hazy, dream state, the layering and cohesiveness on a whole nothing short of meticulous. 10 tracks in total, 2 of which are exclusive to the record, one of which is a backwards version of what will be on the CD released later in winter. Limited to 217 copies (one for every room at the hotel). Don’t miss a chance to grab what is unequivocally one of the most well conceived and well executed records in the history of Malignant.

L'ACEPHALE - 'Malefeasance' 2 x LP (Aurora Borealis)
"Malefeasance" is a lengthy and complex affair that further explores L'Acephale's fascinations and strikes headlong into the darkest of musical vistas. The journey this time is perhaps even more academic than the debut "Mord Und Totsclag": further ethnographic audio elements are now present, more spacious passages, a deeper approach. A mix of ambient, warping tones, black metal, chanting, ethereal keyboards, drones, acoustic guitars, noise, field recordings and Tibetan ritual music. The last two tracks best show the nature of Set Sothis' collaborations with Markus Wolff (Waldteufel, Crash Worship), sharing some of his vocal and percussive styles. By no means do L'Acephale make music for the casual listener. In many ways they transcend the preconceived ideas of what may be expected: L'Acephale are most successful at operating beyond the constraints of genre altogether, and 'Malefeasance', with its dark, dreamlike and harrowing atmospheres, is their testament. LAGO MORTO - 'Obitorio Veneto' LP (Von Archives)
Lago Morto is a band conceived by Italian artist Nico Vascellari as contribution to the exhibition ‘Rock Scissors Paper’ (Kunsthaus Graz). Lago Morto is ‘a social punk sculpture’, a way ‘to turn the model of the cast band upside down. Lago Morto is about things that casting calls usually exclude - targeted aggression, unpredictable social effects and local politics’. The result is a band that toured for 15 days in Vittorio Veneto in non musical venues such as bar, osteria, pizzeria, launderette, video store etc. The LP contains all 14 songs the band has created. Ltd x 300 copies with a full-size insert. Italian import.
The debut release from the Herbst9 project! Massive drones and sinister melodies rise out from the inside of a dark and bleak ground while crushing rhythms and unreal vocal shreds echoing through a wide spectrum of sounds and effects. The perfect sound journey through devastated landscapes. Ltd x 750 copies.
Lotus Eaters is Stephen O'Malley (Sunn O))), KTL), James Plotkin (Khanate, Phantomsmasher) and Aaron Turner (Isis, Old Man Gloom). Previously issued on CD, Plotkin has remixed, remastered and rearranged Wurmwulv for this vinyl edition using alternate takes from the original recording sessions. The 2LP also includes reworked material from Lotus Eaters' self-titled 7" released by Drone Records. 52 minutes and 29 seconds on 3 sides of direct metal mastered 200 gram virgin vinyl, the 2LP has a drawing by Turner etched on side D. Housed in a Stoughton tip-on gatefold jacket designed by O'Malley, Wurmwulv features Stephen Kasner paintings printed on linen-textured woven paper, a spot varnished interior and flooded pockets. The Kasner paintings and Turner drawings included were created specifically for this vinyl edition. Reconfigured for vinyl, Wurmwulv is a solvent-soaked carpet ride into loose soil. Worms writhe over cilia as moist roots lick and graze skin. The dampened howls of wolves reverberate through water freezing into creaking crystals. LUPERCI - 'The Holy Mountain' 12" (Monolithic Document)
Luperci is a drone based noise project from Albuquerque, New Mexico. 'The Holy Mountain' is an epic and introspective piece that oscillates between quiet, hypnotic drone and trance inducing, crushing wall of sound. 'The Holy Mountain' is about the human drive towards enlightenment and is largely influenced by the path of the Aghori Sadhus - a sect of Hindu ascetics who believe everything is sacred and nothing is profane. As part of their spiritual journey, they live alone in cremation grounds, carry a begging bowl made from a human skull, and wear cremation ashes. The extreme nature of their practice and their intense desire for the union with the divine was a major point of inspiration for the album. LYDIA LUNCH & PHILIPPE PETIT - 'In Comfort' Picture Disc LP (Comfortzone)
This is the second time in less than 12 months we've found Petit working with an (in)famous female vocalist, trailing last years chilling 7" with Cosey Fanni Tutti, and this outing is no less unnerving. 'Return To Backworld' is a sombre instrumental opener for piano and glitched electronics, before 'Requiescat In Comfort' introduces Lydia's croaked vocal over droning, discordant strings and bleak, glooming drones. Making their own the formula that If a band rocks, then it rocks live, Majutsu No Niwa (‘magical garden’) recorded this new album live in concert, in order to recreate on LP the astonishing experience that their live set is. Four tracks of pure sonic catharsis, epic songs, cosmic rock, psychic delirium, including a classic Tokyo-style ballad, for one of the loudest bands in the planet. Already a cult item! Ltd x 250 copies.
"Maleficia is the bay area duo of Andy Way (Orchest, French Radio, Carrion) and Ilysea Viles Sunderman, who crafted this desolate, post-industrial smear of voice, violin, and electronics for the always impressive isounderscore label. With the titles of the two side long pieces being "Making" and "Remaking," Maleficia offers a crucible of elemental sounds being obliterated into a charred dust and rebuilt into ashen constructions of misery and disgust... The industrialized loops that wraps around the voice and violin come across like a slow-motion Maurizio Bianchi on par with the downer records he did with Land Use or the grim power electronic phase in the early '80s. Certainly for fans of Amber Asylum, early Lustmord, and the dark ambient aspects of Broken Flag" (Aquarius). Ltd x 400 copies.

NADJA & GALENA - 'Konstruktion' LP (Adagio830)
Having long established themselves as pioneers in the heavy drone and dark ambient scene, Nadja, now based in Berlin, continue pushing things forward with Konstruktion. Nadja's unique thumbprint shines strong mostly on the B side of this album, punishing guitar that scratches the listener's itch for heavy, churning and an engulfing sonic experience. Galena adds subtle synth and sustaining guitar lines that brew to boil just below Nadja's set threshold. Working in a similar and cohesive manner, Galena slowly stirs the pot with dark menacing synth layers, tape treatments and creeping washed out guitar. The A-Side shows Galena's strengths more prominent but again, welcoming subtle and tasteful additions by their collaborators. From the opening digital creaks and chimes of 'Triste Part 1' through to the spiked ardour of 'Triste Part 2', Ambarchi takes increasingly familiar elements then sculpts them into something both bold yet eminently accessible. ORTHODOX - 'Baal - Clear' LP (Alone Records)
4th album from the Spanish Avant-Doom trio. Like previous efforts, the new Orthodox album moves again towards a search of spirituality and the sense of innovation that is part of their music. This time the band has concentrated all its strength and sound imagery into these 5 pieces. The band explores its roots to leave behind the search for alterations in their musical language and the emerging psychedelic and progressive atmospheres that appeared in their previous work "Sentencia". This work sums up all the attributes picked by the band during their career, places them in a new starting point and gives them a spectacular projection because their sound and musical ideas have yet to travel far beyond. "Orthodox were a metal band once, but they have become much bigger. At this point, everything they have in common with doom music or any other style of metal music is the sense of spirituality and their search of catharsis through rites" (The Wire). Limited clear vinyl edition.
The long awaited 1st full-length LP by American vital slugger Gordon Ashworth is finally out. Two long tracks documented in Portland, Oregon 2006-2007. Fierce and solid bursts of shrill metal junk roar, high-frequency feedback and brutal vocals. A circumspect composition of heavy drone / noise assaults and depressive electronics. Explosions break the silence, the silence erodes the explosion. When you look up at the horizon, your blood will remember "Grey Variables". Hand-numbered edition of 280 copies on clear vinyl in a heavy polysleeve with a silkscreened obi strip and a postcard. Japanese import.

OTESANEK - 'Final Recordings' LP (Nancy Jo / Reification Of Misery Productions)
Two track featuring the final recordings of the mighty beast from Philadelphia, OTESANEK. Very slow, hypnotic, filthy, crushing, merciless doom. Tortured addictions turned into sound. Overpowering, intense, frightening music. Ltd x 500 copies on a thick 180g slab. Screen printed chipboard covers, featuring the gorgeous art of Pippi Zornoza. The Ten of Swords on the cover represents a worst case scenario wherein everything that could go wrong has gone wrong. At the same time, it also represents a victim mentality. One sword could kill a man, ten swords point to embellishment (and the implication of self-fulfilling prophecy).

PANICSVILLE / FRANKIE & THE S.E.M.M. - 'Brain In The Cat / Stunts' LP & Bonus Disc (Nihilist / Top Quality Rock And Roll)
Quite a heavy bunch of stuff here. "In 1999, in the middle of the night two guys start an argument, which explodes in a lot of 'fuck you' and the word 'stunt' can be picked up. Frankie & The S.E.M.M. add lofi synthesizer or suppressed feedback to the material. I actually enjoyed hearing it as I thought it was hilarious (though I am glad not have been present that night)... The Panicsville side has three pieces that were originally released as a cassette, and an unreleased piece... this material already forecasts his interest in musique concrete and analogue synths and these four pieces are quite nice experimental music pieces" (Vital Weekly). PEPE WISMEER - 'Musi' LP (Equation Records)
Pepe Wismeer is a duo from the Champagne-Ardennes region of France, who have been making their own unique brand of music since 1999. The music on this LP moves with patient strides, sometimes swelling to sudden crescendos, accompanied by electronic scrapes and coughs. A slightly damaged, spare, chamber folk-psych, whose distant cousins can be found in the darkly tender moments infused in early Psychic TV / Current 93 / Coil, or in the atmospheric postures of Antony & the Johnsons. The music is mainly structured around piano and voice accompanied by electric-acoustic guitar, bass, concrete sounds, samples, sitar, metallophone… sheep, birds, water and glass. All music was recorded on analogue equipment to add warmth to the icy atmospheres. Ltd x 100 hand-numbered copies with insert.

PRAXINOSCOPE - 'Praxinoscope' Picture Disc LP (A Silent Place)
Praxinoscope is a project which unites the duo Roberto Opalio (one-half of My Cat Is An Alien) and Ramona Ponzini. Here Ponzini plays little Japanese percussions and wind chimes, creating a resonant texture over Roberto's alien wordless vocals and space electronics. The material comes from a whole session recorded in a mysterious location of the Western Alps, directly transferred to CD using neither overdubs nor outtakes. For the entire length of its 40 minutes, the piece will stifle your breath because of its pure essence and intimate mood; a mystic, suffocated chant reminding the silence of ancient rituals, the ultimate exorcism to avert the Infinite Pain. Ltd x 500 copies on a full-colour picture disc with psychedelic artwork in a printed PVC sleeve.

PROCER VENEFICUS - 'How The Heather Moonlit Shivers' 2 x LP (Just Another Winter)
The long awaited first vinyl release of the unchallenged master of acoustic fog music. "How The Heather Moonlit Shivers" is the bleakest Procer Veneficus release to date: yet the unmistakable nebular ambience remains... the darkest of night with all its swirling ghosts seems to close in on the listener and urges the trembling hand to finally switch on the light. Reminds of Splinterskin. Ltd x 406 hand-numbered copies on red vinyl in a gatefold sleeve. RECOMMENDED!!
A tasteful combination of improvised thrash noise / metal by Pymathon (Topias Tiheäsalo and Jaakko Tolvi - the former known for his collaboration with RLW and solo CD, the latter for banging drums in Rauhan Orkesteri) and harsh noise-driven free jazz (not dissimilar to Merzbow in places) by Gentle Evil (Janne Tuomi and Tommi Keränen - the former known for a solo CD and percussion for Circle, the latter for being the other half of Testicle Hazard). Three tracks from Pymathon and a single, long track from Gentle Evil. "Both kick ass, crush skulls and are loud enough to demolish buildings". A solid improv guitar rant for those of a sturdy disposition! Finnish import.

S VREMENA NA VREME - 'S Vremena Na Vreme' LP (Atlantide)
A forgotten masterpiece of south-European Prog Folk-music! The members of S Vremena Na Vreme were the founders and leaders of the Belgrade acoustic scene. These talented guys were the cornerstone for other groups like Pop Masina, Dag, Porodicna Manufaktura Crnog Hleba and others in the early 70s. The quartet rose out of nowhere with this debut studio album (1975), full of beauty and originallity. They were not only talented players, but also fantastic composers. By using the prim and the sargija (small guitars from the Balkan area) they developed a very specificsound. S Vremena Na Vreme was not a just group whose musicians only knew how to show off on their instruments, but are also hugely accessible and appealing! If you like the Strawbs’ first album, this album will give you as much pleasure. Stunning gatefold LP, limited to just 333 copies.

This music belongs somewhere. Late summer afternoons, English pre-twilight and the old house that could do with some work. You walk along the edge of the lake and catch the scent of jasmine. Savaging Spires have created a world of sound where old ghosts can walk freely through these sunny grounds and impart equal doses of dread and joy. SLOATH - 'Sloath' LP (Riot Season)
Sloath are a sickly, unwholesome five piece from the south coast of England, brought together by a mutual desire to play the slowest, loudest and heaviest music possible using guitars, bass, drums and chant-like vocalisations. This debut of loud, slow and heavy music was set down at Brighton Electric Studios. The band has sharing stages with the likes of Acid Mothers Temple, Burial Hex, Om and White Mice, either delighting or tormenting unwary audiences with their obnoxious yet soothing psychedelic performances that has rightly earned them a fearsome reputation as a live entity. For fans of doom and sludge, heavy riffage and deep vibrations. Ltd x 500 copies on black vinyl.
Sonne Hagal’s second full-length album once more bestows the listener with a journey into the unknown realms of poetry, mysteries and enthralling melodies. The songs, performed in German and English, reveal rediscovered poems as well as self-written lyrics. The atmosphere of the songs varies from intimate, quiet parts to fresher, light-hearted and lively sounds up to heavy distorted parts supported by real or electronic drums. Each song unfolds its own universe, interconnected by the central idea of “Jordansfrost”: the constant changing between light and darkness, the seasons or even life and death themselves. THE FAMILY ELAN - 'Bow Low Bright Glow' LP (Altvinyl)
“Bow Low Bright Glow” is a communal excavation and re-presentation of buried European folk and sufi-hearted music than any form of experiment. Family Elan are alone in their field. Here, Chris Hladowski has put together a collection of original numbers, visions created from lost / found tapes and traditional pieces that are a fitting companion to Family Elan’s “Stare of Dawn” debut. Alongside Hladowski’s voice, there’s the vocal input of Nalle’s Hanna Tuulikki – a voice as easily capable of gentle Qawwali as it is folk song. This is a record of heavy treble intricacy, Hladowski’s saz and bouzouki playing encompassing drones, folk, dervish progressive work and a woozy shimmer over and through the entwining melodies. Family Elan are more than just a project or a band, Hladowski has endowed the music here with a such a unique voice that shaky shorthand comparisons would be pointless and a short sell. Music that hints at the devotional rarely feels as inclusive, as communal and as enjoyable as this. Ltd x 500 copies on heavyweight vinyl in a stunning textured heavyweight sleeve.

THE GUILT ØF... - 'The Guilt Øf...' LP (At War With False Noise)
Debut full-length from Mike Williams (Eyehategod, Arson Anthem) and Ryan McKern (Wolvhammer) after their recent split LP with Merzbow. This is very different to Mike's usual output and provides him with the perfect outlet for his singular, dark world view. Early industrial, punk, electro and noise are all references here and are tied together by Williams' distinctive vocal style. This is some very dark stuff and definitely has the feel of Eyehategod even though it's got a totally different sound. Reference points: (early) Skinny Puppy, Throbbing Gristle, Suicide, Head Of David. Equal parts primitive industrial, noise and punk; most certainly their most fully-realised recording to date by some way. Ltd x 250 copies on black vinyl.

THE NEW BLOCKADERS - 'Schadenklang' LP (Hypnagogia)
40 minutes of new '30th Antiversary Wreckordings' by TNB on 12" vinyl with full-colour sleeve. TNB have always had a much-more tactile/hands-on approach than most of their noise contemporaries, often favouring junk and industrial debris to actual ‘instrumentation’ and for the ferociously beautiful "Schadenklang" the feel of DIY ritual remains gloriously intact, even as the levels of electro-violence are insanely amplified. For this release The New Blockaders are Richard Rupenus, Michael Gillham and Hal Hutchinson. Numbered limited edition of 350 copies.

THE SKULL DEFEKTS - 'The Black Hand' LP (Riot Season)
'The Black Hand' is the first part of a trilogy on black vinyl investigating the power of deep drone and extreme sound and the beast that is creativity and sound. The Skull Defekts was formed by Henrik Rylander and Joachim Nordwall in early 2005 (the only members on this recording, normally a quartet). They have since collaborated with Damo Suzuki, Wolf Eyes, C.M. Von Hausswolff and Lasse Marhaug. Ltd x 500 copies with stunning black on black artwork by Fredrik Söderberg.
This highly accomplished and visionary musician has been known for his assistance with groups and artists as diverse as Coil, Spiritualized and Julian Cope as much as his own albums. Combining musique concrète, quasi-dimensional electronics, ravaged hums, atmospheric tones and all manner of different instruments nodding into focus, 'Chamber Music' is an imaginative and focused album, and his most cohesive work to date. THU20 - 'Tilburg' LP (Korm Plastics)
A live recording made in Paradox in Tilburg in October 2007. Over the past 20 years one of the bigger enigma's of 'industrial' music or 'modern musique concrete' has been THU20. This is a detailed balance between the various interests of the five players involved: the computer work of Jos Smolders and Roel Meelkop, the acoustic sound objects of Peter Duimelinks and Frans de Waard and the analogue electronics of Jacques van Bussel. 'Tilburg' is made up of various recordings made from the P.A. as well as by the individual players, which were slightly edited by THU20. Ltd x 250 copies.

ULTRA - 'Roman Holiday' 2 x LP & 7" (Dom America)
"Ultra were one of the shadiest of the post-Industrial avant-experimental groups, with next to nada available in terms of info and a deliberately cryptic/parodic stance. They were in fact the brainchild of Jon Carlson with contributions from Christoph Heemann and Achim P Li Khan of HNAS, inspired in part by their response to the early Whitehouse and Come Org releases. But in their attempt to lampoon and amplify the urges behind the most transgressive Industrial noise they went well beyond the remit, birthing a form of subtly psychedelic avant garde that is as beautiful as it is hilarious... hazy drone sunsets that are pure Mirror, elegiac avant piano instrumentals and great barracking Industrial/rock assaults in the mode of Whitehouse/Ramleh. The schizophrenic atmosphere makes for the perfect confusion, lurching from fizzy, melancholy tone-poems to fists full of Industrial brutalism. This deluxe double LP reissue restores their classic 1997 Roman Holiday album complete with additional stray singles and a bonus 7” featuring unreleased material from the Zoll sessions..." (David Keenan). Highly recommended." Ltd x 400 copies on black vinyl.

Reissue of Velnias' 2008 album. The music of Illinois based blackened doom outfit Velnias can be best described as a combination of sorrowful black metal with a very doomy atmosphere, combined with elements of folk. With three lengthy songs, the emphasis has been laid upon a musical foundation of progressive yet feral riffs, intertwining with delicate passages that only make the heavier parts that much more potent. Combined with lyrical content based upon the premise that the human race is insignificant compared to the grand power and prestige of nature this is a debut album that should not be dismissed! WERKRAUM - 'Early Love Music' 2 x LP (Ahnstern / Steinklang)
14 progressive and traditional, psychedelic and medieval folk songs and chants of early love. 14 dreamy memories of the merry blue days from early times. With "Early Love Music" the German Folk musician Axel Frank sets a surpassing milestone for the new generation of Folk artists. A year after releasing his quite Martial / Neoclassical oriented debut on Cold Spring (CSR49CD), Axel got heavily involved with Alpine Folk heroes Sturmpercht and found his love in late 60s / early 70s Psych / Prog Folk music, thus changing his own direction, with the highly successful MCD 'Kristalle'. The complex arrangements and large variety of instruments even remind of The Incredible String Band and some early Acid-Folk bands. "Early Love Music" brings 2 cover versions: Donovan's ingenious fairytale "Jabberwocky" and traditional folk hit "The Blacksmith". Features collaborations with Changes, Lady Morphia and Sturmpercht. WHITE HETEROSEXUALS - 'Modern Heterosexuality' SINGLE SIDED 12" (At War With False Noise)
What we have here are three tracks of old-style power electronics, reminds me particularly of Sutcliffe Jugend's "When Pornography Is No Longer Enough" album. Very minimal in places, with periods of lull interspersed with piercing explosions, static bursts, and constant weird, heavily processed vocals. Lyrics are very stream-of-consciousness stuff, and the delivery is bang-on, incredibly jarring stuff. Completely at odds with a lot of PE acts around today who tend to go for the muscular beefed-up US-style approach, this is very much more in the old Come Org vein, aesthetically in the musical delivery. Ltd x 300 copies with old school xerox artwork and lyric sheet. Note: Single-sided vinyl.

WOLFMANGLER - 'Dwelling In A Dead Raven For The Glory Of Crucified Wolves' 2 x LP (Aurora Borealis)
Wolfmangler is the musical vision of D Smolken, a Polish political émigré, formerly of Dead Raven Choir. His music is slow, grim, noisy, black and shambling; a deconstructed hybrid of twisted folk and hinterland doom metal. Bowed double bass, electric bass and violin merge with sinister growls and whispered lyrics as Wolfmangler improvise dissonant doom riffs around lyrics taken from Hank Williams Jr, Georg Trakl and others, rich with the symbolism of life and decay. Wolfmangler create a listening experience at once unsettling, twisted and darkly beautiful. Comes with 2 vinyl-only bonus, previously-unreleased tracks! An album of outsider metal, it's sparse and bleak, but rumblings, clanging and tortured cries erupt violently throughout. Unhinged and dangerous. YEAR OF NO LIGHT - 'Ausserwelt' 2 x LP (Music Fear Satan)
Year Of No Light have recruited two new thirsty mercenaries to their line-up: Shiran, of Uber-doom combo Monarch! and Mathieu, of deviant-electronics act Aeroflot. Out of their cave, they crept into an old theatre to record these 4 tracks, catching every possible vibration of the trembling frame of this enlivened new mansion. All the energy collected there forms "Ausserwelt", the sophomore album of Year Of No Light. Mystical emanations flow out of these riffs colliding into each other to an in ear-splitting shriek. Cranked amps and molested drums hurl their mourning chant as a choir intoning its final psalms at the dawn of the Last Judgment. Year Of No Light follows the path opened by "Nord" towards more sombre psychedelics, creating its own blend of black metal, sludge, drone or any other influence marked with the seal of darkness. An ambiguous electrical network of acting singularities, now ready to afford the collective metaphysical crash to come. Ltd x 500 copies over two slabs of black vinyl in a superb gatefold sleeve.
A rather appropriate unearthing takes place on this record, as Yellow Swans are posthumously paired up with Chicago's Oakeater. First up is Yellow Swans, with a single side-long track that should please fans of their later, brighter more psychedelic sound as well as those of the more rigid, structured and even melodic sound found on their final LP. Masterfully mixing huge guitars, shards of mixer feedback and discreet loops. Oakeater on the flip side performs the funerary rights with three tracks that fall somewhere between a satanic ritual and a cosmic synth trip, with meditative vocals, throbbing synthesizers, and distant piano lines. Comes packaged in a custom offset silver ink on black linen paper. Black vinyl with silver on black center labels in an edition of 500 copies.
