This one-man German act creates a difficult sound to describe... The vocals are minimal, a hushed whisper here and there, a Viking style chant during one song, but it's mostly left to the music, which is incredibly evocative, it's like some sort of acoustic black metal, mixed with slowed down surf rock, dark languorous krautrock, and a distinct Morricone vibe too. Most of the songs creep and crawl, sometimes behind a curtain of rainfall, the sound of the forest spirits, flickering firelight, fireflies lighting up the canopy overhead. Originally released in 2003 by Fight Muzik. This reissued album is available for the first time in the full 3CD version. A true monument and a masterpiece of ritual-shamanic drone ambient music. The album is devoted to the mysterious death of nine professional hikers on the Holat-Sjahl slope (Mansi for "Mountain of dead") on 1st February 1959. Investigations into the deaths suggest that the hikers tore open their tent from within, departing barefoot in heavy snow; while the corpses show no signs of struggle, two victims had fractured skulls, two had broken ribs, and one was missing her tongue. According to sources, the victims' clothing contained high levels of radiation, but no one from group worked with radioactive objects. Soviet investigators determined only that "a compelling unknown force" had caused the deaths. Velehentor will take you on a sonic journey through the infinite, dangerous and remote Snow-covered Northern Ural Mountains. The 2nd disc is a collaboration with Ad Lux Tenebrae. Viridian Sun is a duo focusing on abstract improvisation, featuring Hypnos founder Mike Griffin, and Hypnos solo artist David Tollefson. Their last studio album "Perihelion" was released a full decade ago on Hypnos, though VS continued to record together and occasionally perform live. The new album "Infinite In All Directions" moves into slightly different sonic material, downplaying synthesizer electronics in favour of guitar and bass guitar, electronically treated and looped. Different types of computer files have been cracked in a sampling software that transforms any kind of files into raw sound. It is possible to analyse the different structures of any type of data as a potential source visible as graphic waveform. ... With implicit aesthetics of failure the structure of the original file is destroyed to its core and reflecting the meta-phorical bug on its way through the hard drive." VORTEX - 'Rockdrill' CD (Cyclic Law)
Vortex is a German project from Marcus Stigleger (Golgatha, Aeterna), challenging the boundaries of ritual and dark ambient music. After the debut album 'Phanopoeia' (2008, Tesco Organisation), 'Rockdrill' continues on the same path and mobilises acoustic instruments, voice, electronics and samples to create a unique and epic sound monument in 11 parts. It is inspired by a sculpture called ‘Rock Drill’ by Vorticist artist Sir Jacob Epstein. The sculpture was built according to his sketches in 1913-14 to symbolise 'the terrible Frankenstein's monster we have made ourselves into'. The concept of this album is to reconstruct the history, mood and allegory of this piece of sculptural art as well as its impact on modern art movements. This truly complex album transcends the frontiers of ambient soundscapes in order to awake a nearly forgotten sense of beauty and grace within modernist avant-garde by using twisted rhythm patterns, pounding industrial percussion and fragile organic ambience. The new Vresnit album was recorded in autumn/winter 2010 in cooperation with Kshatriy, Hladna and Neznamo. A five-part space ambient piece dedicated to the sun and the transformation and dissemination of seeds. VULTURES Vs AMPERSAND - 'Vultures Vs Ampersand' CD (Born In Mind)
This album boasts dark ambient and industrial sounds that recall Italian Futurism in two 30-minute tracks that highlight the unusual instrumentation and varied musical backgrounds of the two projects. Ampersand, led by artist and musician Stephen Oldfield, builds and performs with giant metallic structures created in his Deptford home. Along with the sound sculptures, Ampersand uses missile shell casings, corrugated iron sheets, and a dismantled piano as well as radios, detuned electric bass, and enhanced electronics. Vultures Quartet for this recording features prepared zither, a Korg synthesizer, metal percussion, bowed cymbals, and house hold objects such as pot lids, a wok, table legs, and a CD rack. Many of the acoustic sounds made by the quartet were manipulated and reintroduced into the composition through the live computer processing of member Matt Chilton. Digipak.
This CD assembles pieces performed during the Internet event "Le Placard: Headphone Room", organised by the Buro association (Paris) and transmitted from the art gallery ZDB in Lisbon. Proposing a vast series of concerts, performances and real-time diffusions. 'Randonee 0.06' departs with a series of digital manipulative processes over field recordings from familiar open spaces to crate an intricate and organic soundscape. Nice piece from this act of Portuguese sound artist Paolo Raposo.
