After their debut album "Gnoia", Finnish band Umbra Nihil present "The Borderland Rituals: - 5 long obscure, frosty compositions of hypnotic doom metal. The album was inspired by the brooding horror novel The House on the Borderland. In order to achieve a suitable claustrophobic sound and eerie, forbidding atmosphere the album was recorded in an isolated and quarantined abandoned house, sullenly crafting the band's sound into a more organic and gelatinous direction. As the troupe's sound went through changes amidst the locale of rural decay, so did the initial Hodgsonian concept of the album - turning from a mere literary reference in lyrics into a much more personal account of borderland existence.

UnicaZürn are: Stephen Thrower (CYCLOBE, COIL) and David Knight (ARKKON, SHOCK HEADED PETERS). Both are also members of The Amal Gamal Ensemble. Composed from recordings and improvisations made between 2004-2009 by the banks of the Thames and the East Sussex coast, "Temporal Bends" is aquatic, coastal music, connecting an experience of the rivers and seas of England with the micro-waterways of memory and the mind, through decompression and dehydration to full flood and saturation. Knight is renowned for his pulverising fretwork in Shock Headed Peters, and his cavernous guitar treatments in Arkkon; Thrower's reed playing provided a distinctive 'free-melancholy' in Coil and emerges as electro-acoustic texture in Cyclobe. To this duophonic arrangement, UnicaZürn add analogue synthesizer, mellotron and piano, with influences echoing back through early Tangerine Dream to the VCS3 days of Roxy Music. Features special guest vocals by DANIELLE DAX, who also contributed the front cover painting on the digipak. With "Temporal Bends", UnicaZürn offer a deeply immersive music which hovers at the brink of abstraction, seeking to conjure at that threshold fantastical coastlines and subterranean narratives in the mind's eye.

Ur was born from the collaboration between Federico Esposito and Mauro Sciaccaluga, both hailing from the hardcore-punk scene. The two joined in 2003 to create a new entity. Andrea Ferraris joined the band in early 2005. Ur's music is mostly based on improvisation that usually starts with drones or samples (with no pre-defined structure), over which they superimpose layers of electro-acoustic noisescapes coming from objects, field recordings, analog and traditional instruments processed using a load of pedals and effects. Ure Thrall (Asianova, ex-Voice Of Eye) is an American artist from Houston, Texas, who is long active in the more atmospheric, transcendental experimental US-scene. His first vinyl release contains two long tracks with an organic, filmic and sublime quality, using echo-flutes, bass, e-bowed guitar and restrained percussion underneath. The whole 7” is a personal statement about the politics of the USA after this tragic day, which is expressed also in the cover artwork and the liner notes.
