Theodor Bastard is one of the most successful contemporary Russian music collectives, working between genres that can be defined as world music, darkwave and trip-hop. The trademark of the band is the unique voice of Yana Veva and unique sound-production of Fedor Svolotch. Yana Veva has a rare vocal timbre and she uses a special vocal technique that refers to Arabic and Indian vocal tradition. This disc differs from the other works by this band - concerning aesthetics and sound: most of the compositions are far from the oriental theme, that’s been typical for the band, and from the “dark” direction often attributed to the musicians. After attending a Kapotte Muziek concert in Easthampton, USA, Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth) was asked by KM (Frans De Waard, Roel Meelkop and Peter Duimelinks) to expand on the idea of that concert. Moore carried this out in a totally free setting of piano, guitar and small objects, creating the concerts by removing the concert and replacing it by his own playing, where the original recording serves as a score.

TOMAS KORBER / KAZUYA ISHIGAMI - 'Mistakes' CD (Neus-318)
Swiss improviser and composer Tomas Korber works with sounds created by Japanese laptop artist Kazuya Ishigami and vice versa. Utilizing Korber’s guitar sounds Ishigami crafts an intriguing electronic world over two pieces - austere electrics, frenzied digitalia, high pitches, bass drones, melodic waves of feedback and rhythmic pulses. Korber meanwhile begins his piece with a static piercing tone that dissipates suddenly into silence. TONY WAKEFORD - 'Not All Of Me Will Die' CD (The Eastern Front)
Over 2000 years ago, the Roman poet Horace wrote the line "Non Omnis Moriar" ("Not All Of Me Will Die"). Its poignant defiance of human mortality and faith in the transcending power of art rings out down the ages, finding an echo in this new work from Tony Wakeford, founder of seminal English dark folk / Neofolk band Sol Invictus. Wakeford's 4th solo album commemorates the life and work of the Polish-Ukrainian Jewish poetess Zuzanna Ginczanka, executed by the Gestapo in Kraków in 1944. All of the album’s lyrics are based on Ginczanka’s verses. Reissue of two 10" from the years 1998 and 2003. "Daur" (was the very first release of Troum (Ltd x 300, Cohort Records) and it presents very post-rock sounding material with a lot of decipherable guitar parts and a good drive. "Ljubimaya" was released by the Russian label Waystyx (Ltd x 455) and carries you towards a lyrical and touchy eternity of ever-beginning melodies without an end, into the emptiness of existence with all the uterine roar provided by Yen Pox on one of the tracks. The cover features psychedelic image manipulations by Dmitri Chistov (Hum). Ltd x 500 copies.
