Regarded by many as one of the best Sol Invictus releases, this reissue of "Sol Veritas Lux" comes presented in a Deluxe Digipak together with a 16 page booklet and exclusive bonus material. All songs have been digitally re-mastered by Denis Blackham. "Sol Veritas Lux" was released for the first time in 1990 and combines the first Sol Invictus release ("Against the Modern World" from 1987) with the second release ("In the Jaws of the Serpent" from 1989) together on one CD. At that time, Sol Invictus were Tony Wakeford (formerly of Death In June) with Karl Blake and Ian Read (formerly of Current 93, then to become the sole permanent member of Fire & Ice). A return to the roots of pagan Europe, drums and all. It certainly has heroic, martial qualities but is actually very varied, drawing on three main currents: the classic Sol acoustic folk approach, ambient-orchestral parts and more experimental elements. The lyrics are about life, death and struggle, the transience of human existence, mortality and the death of God. This is signified by the inclusion of Heimgest's Odinic Gealdor - a magical chanting of the runes. The invocation of the runes encapsulates not just the fatalism of wyrd, but rather the totality of existence. Tony Wakeford is joined here by Sally Doherty and Karl Blake. Sol Invictus’s first outing on Dark Vinyl is a nod back in the direction to a more earthy folk sound. Taken from Russian folklore the title track "Steeds For The Devil" concerns suicide, while there are the usual happy Tony Wakeford songs. Two traditional songs get the Sol Invictus treatment - "Twa Corbies" and "Three Knights Came from the West". Philip Larkin’s poem "The North Ship" also becomes the basis for one song. Artwork on this release is from Tor Lundvall, with the first Limited edition coming in a 6 panel luxury digipak.
