R-A-A-N delivers dark-ambient in it's classic pure-form, at times, conjuring the spirit of Heresy-era Lustmord or vintage Raison D'Etre. Heavy ritualistic drones, sporadic rhythmic accents, and deep subsonics that will vibrate your very core. Thematically, The Nacrasti explores an ancient desert culture that was advanced beyond its time and yet long forgotten by history. Your dark evolving journey into this lost "Nacrastan" landscape is streaked with the warm hue of sun-bleached rock, sand, gold, and fire. A serenely brooding work with a myriad of nocturnal sub-textures. Beautiful packaging.

R.Y.N. - 'Astral Death' CD (Unrest Productions)
RYN is the project of UK drone duo Pete Burn (Marzuraan) and Dean Glaister (Romance). With one previous 7" on Drone Records, this is their first full-length album. "6 long tracks of waving and slowly shifting massive drones, based on guitar, bass, metal and effects. The sounds here are just flooding immensely, there's nothing 'concrete' you can hold onto; the mind and body seem to be washed out slowly by these rustling feedbacking and deeply reverberating overtune-waves. "Astral Death" is a journey into the pulsating, meandering heart of disintegration" (Drone Records).
RADIO KUOLEMA - '10050 Cielo Drive' CD (Ars Benevola Mater)
With closed eyes Radio Kuolema attempts a real documentary, where the tragic events linked to the Manson “family” offer the black humus on which the music ideally sticks the obsessions of homicide mysticism which marked out an enduring trail of blood in the american collective unconscious. “10050 Cielo Drive” is the sound, the image, the memory. In these atmospheres the innocence and the frenzy of a world already on the edge of the abyss find shelter: an abyss where the children stare silent at whole cities devoured by flames, while they are still holding tight long knives in their hands. Ltd x 545 numbered copies in out-sized package.
RADIO KUOLEMA - 'Symphony No. 2 Op. 29 For Cembalo And Dying Children' CD (Ars Benevola Mater)
Radio Kuolema's 2007 album is a journey in seven stages carved in dark ambient landscapes which taste of infinity. Atmospheres suspended in time, true industrial symphonies melting in the sidereal space. Hearts of rust facing the stars. Without possibility of redemption. Ltd x 535 copies in an outsized textured sleeve with artcard.

RAPOON - 'From Shadows Sleep' CD (Essence Music)
'From Shadows Sleep' sees Rapoon visiting ancient temples, moving between shadowy labyrinths of meticulous drones, echoed tones and distant rumblings, building a hypnotic sonic ritual that brings traces from a distant past in form of atmospheric, spiritual mantras of a possessive power. Packaged in an old-fashioned letterpress embossed mini-box with a set of cards printed on quality recycled paper stock, showcasing 11 exclusive paintings by Robin Storey. Simply stunning. Limited edition of 800 copies. Brazilian import.
One of the predicted changes in the weather due to global warming is paradoxically a new ice age which could envelope Europe. "Time Frost" is music based upon this concept and uses tiny fragments / lock grooves of music from an iconic European composition, Johann Strauss's 'Blue Danube'. Imagine that tiny pieces of former cultures survived locked in the ice, waiting for future archaeologists to discover and interpret them. "Time Frost" is an imaginary recording of the mutational process of sound locked into ice and transformed over millennia. Like ghosts of music trapped in an ever-shifting permafrost. A stunning, haunting and hypnotic release. Highly recommended! Limited to 750 copies in a beautiful matt digipak.
Reissue of this Ritual-Noise classic album! RASTHOF DACHAU - 'Prison Poems' CD (Steinklang)
Controversial album from this Austrian project. "Prison Poems" is a conceptual work about the Irish civil-rights movement of the 1970’s. This album deals with the fate of a handful of young IRA hunger strikers, imprisoned for political affairs, but then simply sentenced as criminals. Most of the text on this album is taken from poems written by one of the strikers - on toilet and cigarette paper with the refill of a biro-pen, hidden inside his body in the years before he died. The sounds on this album vary from dark and cold songs á la GalaktHorroe to early SPK-like Heavy-Electronic tracks. All with hard or subliminal rhythms and psychic analogue frequencies. CD version in jewel case.

RICHARD CHARTIER - 'Archival 1991' CD (Crouton)
Throughout his recent work, Chartier has continued to present sound as design - clean, simple design, implying colors and direct lines and shapes; a spotless, modern room; a series of colored screens. His release on Crouton predates this taste, when things were a bit more complex, a bit more intense. As his recent work sucks the listener into white space, Archival 1991 takes you straight into a black hole, in the most comfortable way imaginable. This is a different kind of clean simplicity. The work is beautiful, stunning, and most of all, complexly powerful. The recording is based on two compositions from 1991, using analogue and digital synthesizers. In 2003, these original pieces were used as source material for this new work, resulting in an extremely intriguing revisit, and aesthetically true to much of his work from the same period. Presented in a 6-panel sleeve in a hand-numbered edition of 500 copies.

RICHARD CHARTIER / BOCA RATON - 'Kapotte Muziek By Richard Chartier / Boca Raton' CD (Korm Plastics)
The 13th installment in the "Kapotte Muziek by..." series. Chartier's piece takes original recordings of KM from a concert at Garage Festival, Stralsund (August 2004). A quiet, 20-minute low drone piece, with little change. More diversity and adventure comes in with the four tracks by Boca Raton (Martijn Tellinga), who reworks original recordings from a KM concert at Smart Space, Amsterdam (March 2003). Minimal ambient vs atmospheric microsounds, with gentle sensibilities of musique-concrete, electro-acoustics and suchlike.
RICHARD FRANCIS - 'Together Alone, Together Apart' CD (CMR)
"The building blocks of 'Together Alone, Together Apart' by New Zealand's Richard Francis are 'sound moments': sonic interludes of a dozen or so seconds of environmental sound, whose subtle arrangements and cross-contaminations are the springboard for the compositions found here. Given the quiet volumes, sounds at the threshold of audibility are presumably those which have captured his imagination. A soft hiss and variable low end frequency introduce the first untitled track, with small crackles, glitches and echoes sporadically breaking through. The second is considerably more dramatic, with a flapping rhythm emerging from a grounded hiss like a moth's wings beating against glass. The final track is almost undetectable, even with headphones, and strengthens the connections between Francis's work and the reductive strategies of Bernhard Gunter or John Hudak..." [Wire]. Ltd x 300 copies in a digifile with inner sleeve.
Back in 1974 (a year before Brian Eno’s first landmark in Ambient-music), a young musician from New York wrote down a fragment of beauty’s hidden story with the minimal vocabulary of sine waves on the young black skin of a Moog synthesizer. This CD features Lainhart’s masterpiece in its original 29-minute version. "...composed and recorded in the fall of 1974 at the State University of New York, Albany in the Coordinated Electronic Music Studio. CEMS was created by my composition teacher Joel Chadabe with design and custom fabrication by Robert Moog and was, at the time, the largest integrated Moog modular synthesizer studio in the world" [Lainhart]. The title came about as a blizzard passed by Lainhart's window whilst finishing the piece: "the snow swirling in the light against the blackness; a moving painting continually drawn."
RICHARD RAMIREZ - 'Deconstructed Hand Device' CD (Deadline Recordings)
Re-issue of Ramirez's 1995 debut full-length release, originally issued in an edition of 500 copies. "The sounds of tornados ripping and rumbling through, tin roofed shacks scraping together and flying apart, all rendered with low-grade electronics. Abrasive, non-rhythmic, non-ambient harshness...". Two long tracks from the head of Black Leather Jesus / Priest In Shit. Professional CD in PVC wallet.

RISING SHADOWS - 'Falling Deep Within' CD (Twilight Records)
Welcome to the amazing fairy world of Rising Shadows! "Falling Deep Within" is the debut album of this gifted Swedish act. A beautiful journey into the darkness of ourselves and our past. Initially a solo project of Fredrik Klingwall, vocalist Linda-li joined the band in 2004. Stylistically, comparisons could be made to Arcana and Stoa, drawing the listener into beautiful medieval dreamscapes full of nostalgia and twilight darkness. RITUAL FRONT - 'Lightnings Over Crimson Hill' CD (Der Angriff)
The first full-length record of one of the most interesting Russian newcomers to the Dark Folk scene. This album is dedicated to Crimson Hill, or Vottovaara, a mountain in Karelia, considered a halidom by former the inhabitants of these Northern forests. With severe battles on peak during World War II, it gained the new name of Death Hill. “Lightning Over Crimson Hill” is a manifest of resistance against mediocrity and dullness, hypocrisy and hollowness. The complex musical structures incorporate acoustic guitars, passionate voice, strong but ascetic keyboards, beautiful piano melodies and martial drums, making the record something more than just a collection of songs. Comes in a full-colour fold-out digisleeve with a booklet, limited to 300 copies only. Russian import.

RLW - 'Contours Imaginaires' 10" (Drone Records)
Terrific 3-track 10" by the prolific German composer Ralf Wehowsky. The whole composition is based on only few seconds of piano sounds and vocals (the rest is imagination). The track titles and pieces offer strong inter-relations in a complex way. The sounds develop through imagination and decay and appear in the pieces with different emphases. The classical piano sounds and its highly processed permutations are set in contrast with the highly emotional voice material, like entering a convoluted labyrinth of voice frazzles, drones and fragmented, strange micro-sounds. Are these the memories of single cells? The shadow of abrasion processes? The slow decay of imaginations? A fantastic work where conceptual thoughts and emotionally driven acoustics merge in a perfect way. First edition of 500 copies on amber / black marbled vinyl with an inlay.
