PAIN JERK - 'Trashware' CD (RRRecords / Pure)
2nd edition of this 1995 album. Pain Jerk (Kohei Gomi) has been one of Japan's most lethal figures in the harsh noise underground throughout the 1990's, and this 4-track, hour-long exercise in extreme electronic blast cut-up and constantly shifting, dynamic textures is one of his all-time finest works. A hyperspeed collage of spastic feedback, detailed distortion, and seizure-inducing rhythms. Absolutely essential for all acolytes of the Japanese noise movement and fans of fellow psychedelic junk-destruction units Incapacitants, Monde Bruits and Merzbow. PAIN JERK / JOHN WIESE - 'Terrazzo' CD (Harbinger Sound)
"Classic ultra-fucked electrified noise barrage that seems to reflect more on the early-90s pornographic Merzbow sound et al than anything currently beating its head against a rock. Just chaos blurts of white noise catharsis cut up with quizzical gloops down the plughole where you feel like a cartoon roadrunner, still peddling in mid-air while rainbows explode into shards of glass and crystal. A fantastic blast of old school noise from these old school boize: John Wiese (Bastard Noise) and Kohei Gomi aka Pain Jerk. Recorded by mail October 2005" [Volcanic Tongue]. Ltd x 1000 copies.

PANICSVILLE - 'Perverse' Enhanced CD (Liquid Death / Hello Pussy Records)
Panicsville are certainly one of the most notorious noise groups of late, demanding either full attention or none at all. Forging even deeper into the uncharted territories of underground music, Panicsville create a world entirely their own - utilizing a range of electronic devices and their usual level of unparalleled experimentalism. This enhanced CD features a new film by controversial, underground Chicago filmmaker Usama Alshaibi, entitled "Convulsion Expulsion". The film is both beautiful and grotesque... with a soundtrack by Panicsville mainstay Andy Ortmann.

PANTHEON LEGIO MUSICA - 'Per Aspera Ad Astra' CD (Thonar Records)
Marching Drums, enchanting Flutes and Harps, epic Chorals and the strange feeling to live inside a movie which takes place in ancient Rome, somewhere between the legion’s march and the worship of a god, somewhere between Caesar and Marc Aurel, somewhere between the will for absolute power and the intuition of total decay, somewhere between history and imagination, somewhere between here and there is the Elysium of Pantheon Legio Musica and their house for all gods. Split release from Polish Industrial act Paranoia Inducta and the extremely prolific Japanese 'cyberpunk' Kenji Siratori, featuring two different musical genres. The surprising album that they made together is made up of grim dark ambient, with lots of Japanese culture influences, instruments and sounds and filled with songs made by Kenji in his native language. Cold soundscapes filled with the soul of a Japanese warrior give this album unique feel! Released in an A5 foldout sleeve with 3 inserts, featuring Japanese-style graphics.
PAUL BRADLEY & CRIA CUERVOS - 'Moraines II' CD (Small Voices)
Moraines II is a radical re-working of the limited release Moraines. The original recordings have been augmented, re-worked and newly mixed into an entirely different piece of music. The final result is a far heavier and more substantial work that creates a light and dark relationship with the original release and is much more than a simple 'remix' of Moraines. Glacial drones melt to liquid and degrade to static. Andrew Liles also contributes a track which that takes elements and unique contributions to twist the work into his own personal sound world. Packaged in a textured digisleeve.

PENITENT - 'Among The Sleepless' CD (Hydra)
The 11th official release from Norwegian act Penitent (aka Karsten Hamre) since 1994. Penitent continues with very varied ambient puzzles, creating a pure dark collage, based around the themes of graveyards and death. An orchestral touch appears now and than while a few other cuts move into more explicit experimental fields. Diverse ambient soundscapes are lead by a repetitive rhythmic background. Overall, agreat illustration of all the knowledge and maturity of this project. Penitent remains quite faithful to its established style and sound. Hydra is a division of the Salvation Group.

PENJAGA INSAF & VESTIGIAL - 'Of Earth And Of Fire' 12" (Power & Steel / Loki Foundation)
The German Penjaga Insaf delivers enigmatic, ritualistic soundscapes built from layers of percussive, deeply meditative patterns, interwoven with original field recordings made by the artist during extensive travels through Indonesia. Italy's Vestigial presents an immense stream of pitch black ambience infused with dark tectonic upheavals and voice fragments that boil forth from a seething flood of magma before sinking back into the molten stew. The ancient sounds of the Earth as scorched by devastating waves of brooding Fire.
Mark Warren (ex-Zoviet France) moves in the opposite direction of Robin Storey's Rapoon in favour of more sonically simple, minimalistic electronics that take their time to develop. New textural fabrics are woven from everyday field recordings sourced from the Skandinavian peninsula. Primarily dark Ambient, with analogue-synth sounds, minimal techno loops, electronic drones and sweeping backdrops.

PER ASPERA - 'Nil Desperandum' CD (New Nihilism)
Third release from this Polish artist. Unifying a vast array of elements, Per Aspera once again achieves remarkably introvert but vibrant style. Eerie industrial atmospheres seamlessly blend with serene harmonies of an almost orchestral form. Cinematic, monstrous drone formations morph into a pulsating abyss of dissonant disturbances and uncompromised sonic experiments, overlaid by subtle beauty of human voice and minimalist acoustic instrumentation. Ltd x 500 copies in a DVD-size digipak.
PETER REHBERG - 'Kapotte Muziek By Peter Rehberg' MCD (Korm Plastics)
The fourteenth installment in this series is a mini CD by Peter Rehberg (Pita / KTL). For his rework, Rehberg used the recordings of the very first Kapotte Muziek workshop (and concert) held in september 1997, as part of Staalplaat's 'Masterclass' event at the Korzo Theatre, in Den Haag. Moving away from digital computer noise for this work, Rehberg crafted a beautifully soft but outspoken piece of music. Low rumbles at micro levels and moments of silence are interspersed with isolated throbs and shimmering mid-frequency drones. A total playing time of 17:30.
The debut release of Polish-born artist Szymon Tankiewicz, 'Submerged' is a dark ambient tour de force. Visually and sonically enveloping, this is an album of space and texture, slowly revealing a psychoactive soundscape of majestic, arcing timbres, circadian buzzes, and expansive drones. Heavy, and cosmically weighty in the beginning, 'Submerged' evolves into something more minimalist and serene, radiating a celestial beauty, yet becoming even more bleak and suffocating as it progresses over it‘s 66 minute time frame. A must for dark ambient purists. 6 panel digipak, with artwork by K. Enderlein (LOKI). Mastered by Thomas Garrison (Control). File next to Yen Pox / Lustmord / Inade / Caul.

POETS TO THEIR BELOVED - 'Embrace The Fool' CD (Equilibrium Music)
Debut from this German / Dutch duo who conquered physical distance through proximity of hearts.Their first opus gathers 13 songs, written over the four year period that followed since the duo's first meeting in Ireland, when Saskia Dommisse and Marcel Schiborr travelled there to attend a Brendan Perry workshop. On the verge of Neofolk, the album presents a unique atmosphere built on stringed instruments such as acoustic guitars, cello, violin and bass. Although a romantic tone is found throughout most of the disc, the compositions also often possess a ritualistic essence where male and female voices rise webbed to the pulsating percussions. Singing of love, loss, forlorn tales and old rituals, Saskia and Marcel invite us into the bleak forest of their soul, where an uncharacteric sense of optimism shines through the treetops to shed some light upon the shady path. Released in a beautiful digipak, including a 12 page booklet with all lyrics.
