The first offering from this Rome outfit. Originally conceived in 2005, Passione Nera has evolved from a folk-pop creature into a fully-fledged chamber-pop ensemble. The band keeps one watery alcoholic eye fixed on the cinematic tradition, with melodic landscapes that are dusty and melancholy. These scenes are then wrapped up in lush, orchestrated songs with acoustic and electric guitars taking the centre stage, and enhanced by a large array of additional instruments. It is as if the songs were written on the back of 1960s postcards brought back from some imaginary journey into “Americana”, then bred with French-pop, cross-fertilized with baroque-pop, and finally molded into a soundtrack for the broken-hearted, the disenchanted and the misunderstood. PETER REHBERG - 'Kapotte Muziek By Peter Rehberg' MCD (Korm Plastics)
The fourteenth installment in this series is a mini CD by Peter Rehberg (Pita / KTL). For his rework, Rehberg used the recordings of the very first Kapotte Muziek workshop (and concert) held in september 1997, as part of Staalplaat's 'Masterclass' event at the Korzo Theatre, in Den Haag. Moving away from digital computer noise for this work, Rehberg crafted a beautifully soft but outspoken piece of music. Low rumbles at micro levels and moments of silence are interspersed with isolated throbs and shimmering mid-frequency drones. A total playing time of 17:30.
Welcome to the Dance of Overtones! New Zealand's Peter Wright (currently residing in London) has raised a reputation over the last few years with his music built mainly by guitar and field recordings. This 3-piece EP consists of little fluxion-mantras, made by waving guitar-overtones and sounds of air and water, with little additional sounds of daily room-noises. Using source sounds of intense tonal drones supplied by Drumm, the two create a haunted atmosphere that is far removed from noise, exploring minimal junctures, using field recording and clean patient vocals to lead the way. Three years after "State Collapse", the cogwheels of the Puissance warmachine have been fine-tuned and put to work again, in a crushing motion that seems to be as defiant and innovative as ever. Musically, "Grace Of God" could well be referred to as a re-definition of the over-abused "Martial-Pop" term, yet Puissance's own superior combination of sumptuous Neoclassical and Industrial elements raises any potential Pop anthem to an entirely distinct level. Reissue of Puissance's 1999 album. With the Industrial rust of early days properly polished, the Swedish duo would further explore their talent for graceful arrangements set to Militaristic Neo-Classical music. Following the overtly confrontational offerings of "Let Us Lead" and "Back In Control", Puissance were now set to resurrect the ghosts of Cold War and the obsession with all things thermonuclear that haunted the planet - the Mother of Disease, as they would call it - over that period. Brooding hymns to suicidal heroism, devotional praises to a new god that would finally bring closure to the human race, the screeching of metal twisting and melting - all of this would find its place in Puissance's own beautiful vision of the impending apocalypse, that they so ingeniously depict on "Mother of Disease". This fine collection, it has been re-mastered and enhanced with one bonus track, presented in a matte-blue deluxe digipak edition.
