A monumental cross-continental collaboration between Canada's prolific neo-doom duo Nadja and New Zealand's pitch black droners Black Boned Angel. The two 20+ minutes tracks contained on this self-titled collaboration have a less accessible vibe then the Jesu-like track on last year's 'Christ Send Light' EP. There are no vocals to be heard. They are comprised in equal parts of Nadja's fuzzed-out, lurching and hazy dream-doom, and BBA's razor-sharp metallic riff-shards. Extended passages of riff-static noise bleeds one track into the next while deep space eerieness looms ever present in the shadows. "Psilocybe Necrophila" refers to a psychoactive mushroom that grows on decomposing flesh. Although recorded mostly in 2007, parallel to last year's acclaimed "Half Born in Half Light", it is quite a different trip. The basis of this work was Niko Skorpio's old cassette tape collection from the 1980's. Containing mostly heavy metal demos and live bootlegs, the dozens of KMs of obsolete tape were sacrificed on the altar of creation. Tape was deconstructed, cut, mangled, eaten and torn apart by a number of malfunctioning cassette players. These emerging mutations were captured, processed and reconstructed, over and over until a new form began to take shape. Carefully chosen and prepared additional ingredients were then introduced to this primal tissue in order to impregnate it with a new kind of energy. Noise Maker's Fifes is an experimental performance group from Brussels. Throughout its duration, "Ligfaerd" relentlessly smothers the listener in layers of ghostly atmosphere, but the decidedly doom-oriented black metal component is still present. Nortt's basic sound is made up of morose synths and piano, barely human snarls, ponderous drumming, despondent fuzzed-out guitars and other string laments - all tied in chains almost too heavy to bear. Nothing has been addressed as a hybrid between Lycia and Raison d'Etre. The American duo merge a healthy dose of Industrial textures with the more ethereal elements provided by monumental keyboard and piano incursions, often with a romantic flavour to them, and whispered mysterious male vocals that turn out quite similar to those of Lycia. The way that the softer and more atmospheric Darkwave elements combine with the harsher tones and intimidating Industrial material proves to be highly original and innovative, especially when they get around to fusing both together. Re-release of the now sold out and deleted MLP from 2008. This is a limited edition (500 copies) re-press of "The Bacteria Magnet" as a picture disc. Before production the printed parts that form the image on the picture disc were signed and drawn upon by Andrew Liles and Steven Stapleton. Some discs are signed by Andrew and others by Steven, others have drawings. It is pot luck which copy you receive. No two are the same - each is unique.
