Disc one, "Tezcatlipoca", is the actual collapsing of stars. This monstrous soul goes from grumbling angrily to mowing the heavens. Parts even cross into early Swans territory with aggressively fractured pacing. But all roads lead to the final track which is an epic length doom metal anthem of sweating proportions. Disc two, "Quetzalcoatl", diffuses into the air an alien vocabulary of electronic-esque gargles and hums. A soundtrack made from the residue left after a subterranean dowsing for the echoes of collapsing stars. These disembodied post-transmissions form up in a Minerva’s Web of sunken Titanic ghosts, slow moaning as from distant caverns. Both CD’s have been composed so they can also be played simultaneously. If "Tezcatlipoca" is overground and “Quetzalcoatl” is underground their combination must be all things… and no things. Maybe the sound of the end of things. The resultant juxtaposition is a colossal celestial being smiling down on all he tramples. Packaged in a full colour, custom made hardback 10-panel sleeve.
NADJA / BLACK BONED ANGEL - 'S/T' CD (20 Buck Spin)
A monumental cross-continental collaboration between Canada’s prolific neo-doom duo Nadja and New Zealand’s pitch black droners Black Boned Angel. The two 20+ minutes tracks contained on this self-titled collaboration have a less accessible vibe then the Jesu-like track on last year’s “Christ Send Light” EP. There are no vocals to be heard. They are comprised in equal parts of Nadja’s fuzzed-out, lurching and hazy dream-doom, and BBA’s razor-sharp metallic riff-shards. Extended passages of riff-static noise bleeds one track into the next while deep space eerieness looms ever present in the shadows. Finally the whole thing collapses under the weight of its own self-created black hole. This is the end. Digipak.
Talented Italian ambient composer Alessandro Tedeschi runs the Glacial Movements label and plays music as Netherworld. His fascination for polar landscapes and soundscapes makes him close to industrial ambient pioneers such as Thomas Köner, Rapoon, Biosphere and Lull. Icy, windy, droning and deeply 'protomelodic' at once, his music is a poetic translation of the ice floe. Nadja is the drone / doom / ambient duo of Canadian musicians Aidan Baker and Leah Buckareff. Their behemoth of sound is a construction of heat, weight, loop and vapour. Here, they had to break Netherworld's ice and find a way to the red core of Earth. The common track brings heat onto ice, which warms up, crackles and soon melts. As a conclusion, the long piece by Nadja is total heat. This is Nadja 'unrhythmed', which means pure lava. Naevus’ playful self-released debut, "Truffles of Love" came out in 1999. Unavailable for several years, it is now reissued in re-mastered form, with significant sonic improvement on the original release. This re-issue also includes six bonus tracks dating from the same period. These tracks were previously only available on obscure compilations in very limited quantities and are long-since deleted. Over 74 minutes of neofolk 'n' pop, giving a complete picture of the early development of Naevus. Extremely rare album from 1995! NAOS is the one-man Dark Ambient / Darkwave / Industrial Ambient project of Greek artist Magus Wampyr Daoloth (aka George Zacharopoulos of Necromantia). The debut album "The Final Harvest" was recorded in 1993 and released in 1995. The vocals are spoken words and the lyrics are about satanism and individualism. "Mørketid" is a Norwegian term that indicates a certain period in the year when the Arctic winter cold encases everything and the sun doesn’t rise over the horizon. It’s a cold and dark period that distinguishes regions and people living in the Artic. The music here is composed using short fragments of sounds found in the Arctic area. Neuestrasse is the name of street of where Fritz Hartmann, "The Wolf of Hannover", resided in 1920. The idea of "Introspective Black Forms" is based of negative emotional states. NIKO SKORPIO - 'Psilocybe Necrophila' CD (Some Place Else)
"Psilocybe Necrophila" refers to a psychoactive mushroom that grows on decomposing flesh. Although recorded mostly in 2007, parallel to last year's acclaimed "Half Born in Half Light", it is quite a different trip. The basis of this work was Niko Skorpio's old cassette tape collection from the 1980's. Containing mostly heavy metal demos and live bootlegs, the dozens of KMs of obsolete tape were sacrificed on the altar of creation. Tape was deconstructed, cut, mangled, eaten and torn apart by a number of malfunctioning cassette players. These emerging mutations were captured, processed and reconstructed, over and over until a new form began to take shape. Carefully chosen and prepared additional ingredients were then introduced to this primal tissue in order to impregnate it with a new kind of energy. Noise Dreams Machina is the project of Spanish artist Oscar Martin, who explores the possibilities of homemade software with free tools for sound deconstrucion and realtime performance. "In / Out" is his first vinyl release and uses a wide range of environmental recordings which are processed digitally in more "electro-acoustic" ways. This leads to a balance between Drone and Electro-Acoustic where the acoustic potential of conventional reality is enlarged via digital processing. Through intense mutation & deconstruction of acoustic materials a new or previously hidden meaning can be revealed for the blind spot of our perception. Noise Maker's Fifes is an experimental performance group from Brussels. The first side of "Zona Incerta" is based on the choreography "Dyonisos' Last Day" from 2003 and uses material from various live performances. The second side is created from insect field recordings made in Kenya. "Zona Incerta" builds a hazy and foggy dimension.. sounds ebb and flow in and out... water and metal-sounds are recognisable in the sound-field, high insect-frequencies intertwine with all kinds of strange noises and animal sounds. Formed by guitarist Yoshiro Hamazaki and programmer Tomoyuki Akiyama in 1999 in Tokyo, Noism focuses on ridiculously complex and spastic death / grind instrumentals using programmed drums that are cut up and spliced back together into impossible rhythms, a million brain-melting riffs and dissonant shredding, all of which is chopped up and processed into abstract death blasts that defy physics. This twelve-song, twenty-one minute disc features a unique, glitched-out chop shop of Planet Mu-style beats delivered at truly meth'd levels of chaos fused with sweeping technical death metal. Insane. Highly recommended for fans of extreme, way-out avant-guitar spazz and absurdly technical deathgrind. Digifile.

The American duo merge a healthy dose of Industrial textures with the more ethereal elements provided by monumental keyboard and piano incursions, often with a romantic flavour to them, and whispered mysterious male vocals that turn out quite similar to those of Lycia. The way that the softer and more atmospheric Darkwave elements combine with the harsher tones and intimidating Industrial material proves to be highly original and innovative, especially when they get around to fusing both together.
