The long overdue vinyl treatment of one of Nadja's finest full-length recordings (originally released as an extremely limited edition in 2003, then expanded and re-recorded for CD in 2007). "Ruins Of Morning" shows NADJA in a very experimental and dark poetic mood. Disc one, "Tezcatlipoca", is the actual collapsing of stars. This monstrous soul goes from grumbling angrily to mowing the heavens. Parts even cross into early Swans territory with aggressively fractured pacing. But all roads lead to the final track which is an epic length doom metal anthem of sweating proportions. Disc two, "Quetzalcoatl", diffuses into the air an alien vocabulary of electronic-esque gargles and hums. A soundtrack made from the residue left after a subterranean dowsing for the echoes of collapsing stars. These disembodied post-transmissions form up in a Minerva’s Web of sunken Titanic ghosts, slow moaning as from distant caverns. Both CD’s have been composed so they can also be played simultaneously. A monumental cross-continental collaboration between Canada’s prolific neo-doom duo Nadja and New Zealand’s pitch black droners Black Boned Angel. The two 20+ minutes tracks contained on this self-titled collaboration have a less accessible vibe then the Jesu-like track on last year’s “Christ Send Light” EP. There are no vocals to be heard. They are comprised in equal parts of Nadja’s fuzzed-out, lurching and hazy dream-doom, and BBA’s razor-sharp metallic riff-shards. Extended passages of riff-static noise bleeds one track into the next while deep space eerieness looms ever present in the shadows. NADJA / OVO - 'The Life And Death Of A Wasp' LP (Vendetta Records / Adagio830)
Over the last few dogs days of summer 2008, Italy’s OvO and Canada’s Nadja got together in their adoptive city of Berlin at Einstürzende Neubauten’s andereBaustelle Studio. With engineer Boris Wilsdorf at the board, each duo began two songs and had the other duo finish them, Bruno and Stefania adding heavy, pounding rhythms and harsh, eerie vocals to Aidan and Leah’s ambient textures and bass-heavy drones. The album, while still heavy and still retaining signature sounds of both groups, turned out mellower than either band expected. But this mellowness gives the songs a greater sense of presence and allows for the intricacies and nuances of each individual’s contributions to be properly heard. With a final mastering by James Plotkin, this album sounds simultaneously harsh and lush, aggressive and warm. Having coffee after the sessions in the back garden, a wasp drugged on sugar flew into Leah’s coffee cup and drowned itself, traumatizing everyone at the table. Ltd x 500 copies on black vinyl.

Naevus’ playful self-released debut, "Truffles of Love" came out in 1999. Unavailable for several years, it is now reissued in re-mastered form, with significant sonic improvement on the original release. This re-issue also includes six bonus tracks dating from the same period. These tracks were previously only available on obscure compilations in very limited quantities and are long-since deleted. Over 74 minutes of neofolk 'n' pop, giving a complete picture of the early development of Naevus. Extremely rare album from 1995! NAOS is the one-man Dark Ambient / Darkwave / Industrial Ambient project of Greek artist Magus Wampyr Daoloth (aka George Zacharopoulos of Necromantia). The debut album "The Final Harvest" was recorded in 1993 and released in 1995. The vocals are spoken words and the lyrics are about satanism and individualism. "Psilocybe Necrophila" refers to a psychoactive mushroom that grows on decomposing flesh. Although recorded mostly in 2007, parallel to last year's acclaimed "Half Born in Half Light", it is quite a different trip. The basis of this work was Niko Skorpio's old cassette tape collection from the 1980's. Containing mostly heavy metal demos and live bootlegs, the dozens of KMs of obsolete tape were sacrificed on the altar of creation. Tape was deconstructed, cut, mangled, eaten and torn apart by a number of malfunctioning cassette players. These emerging mutations were captured, processed and reconstructed, over and over until a new form began to take shape. Carefully chosen and prepared additional ingredients were then introduced to this primal tissue in order to impregnate it with a new kind of energy. "Evolution contains elements of music I have recorded over the last ten years as well as completely new material. As the soundscape evolves, rhythmic patterns appear and merge with the crackling of broken records and deep resounding frequencies. Partly based upon Nordvargr's previous attempts to alter sleep patterns, this recording also contains theta / delta waves, but the reason for this is not revealed. No overdubs or post production. Fourth full-length album from Jason Walton (Circadian). A disharmonic journey through the mid-world spheres. Fragments of corrupted melodies melt with post-nuclear tribal rhythms. Quiet semi-silences turn into crystal-clear ambiences, then suddenly leave space to bursts of noise. Shamanic-like chants evolve into caressing violins, then fall into pits of ultra-droning dark ambient. Surreal and ghostly.
NOTHING - 'The Grey Subaudible' CD (Eibon Records)
Nothing has been addressed as a hybrid between Lycia and Raison d'Etre. The American duo merge a healthy dose of Industrial textures with the more ethereal elements provided by monumental keyboard and piano incursions, often with a romantic flavour to them, and whispered mysterious male vocals that turn out quite similar to those of Lycia. The way that the softer and more atmospheric Darkwave elements combine with the harsher tones and intimidating Industrial material proves to be highly original and innovative, especially when they get around to fusing both together. NLC is the brainchild of Julien ASH, a French musician who explores different varied and innovating universes, from industrial chaos to elegant Neoclassicism. His creativity is only matched by his diversity. The 2004 release, entitled "Friesengeist - Part One", is the first volume of a conceptual saga. A great way to celebrate NLC�s fifteen year career. NUMINA - 'Shift To The Ghost' CD (Hypnos)
"Shift to the Ghost," a long-form continuous piece with indexed track points. Each song is distinctly different in feel, but the songs evolve seamlessly into each other. Numina himself states that the album "is about the life and death of the physical self," hence the title. Whatever the concept, this album contains all the elements Numina fans enjoy, from deep and sombre ambient, to twinkling, swirling space music, constantly evolving. It's a long, fascinating visual journey, and it never grows tired. The latest work from ambient "rising star" Numina is possibly his best yet.
Numinous Eye is an improvised psychadelic-cosmic-noise-rock project based around Mason Jones (Trance), and generally featuring the participation of various collaborators. Side A is from a live set in Tokyo at the end of 2005, with Koji Shimura (Acid Mothers Temple, High Rise, Mainliner, White Heaven) on drums and Higo Hiroshi (Friction, Shibusashirazu Orchestra) on bass. Side B was recorded live in the studio with Chris Van Huffle (ex-SubArachnoid Space, Gay Barbarians, etc) on drums. Limited to 490 copies on orange vinyl with insert and sticker.
