This is the stereo version of a sound installation presented at Montreal's Studio Cormier in December 2004. The piece is based on the recording of 'silences', i.e. the recording of sound produced in spaces with no human presence. The sound of an 'empty' Studio Cormier was used as the material for the production of this piece. The sound takes were done during the quietest moments of the day, by means of microphones placed strategically throughout the Studio by the artist. The sounds gathered were then amplified and their frequencies accentuated to the extreme. The result of the experiment, as presented here, constitutes a genuine drone odyssey playing on fullness and emptiness, presence and absence, 'speak' and 'non-speak'. "Age of 369" was originally released on cassette in 1984. The lesser known "Chant 2" is also from this period and complements the sonic intensity of the other. Of further importance is the influence of Maurizio Bianchi (MB) and the mail art that was integral to the industrial underground. These reissues document significant works from Japan's Noise master. Made with a cheap tape recorder and a lot of tape loops, which were then manipulated by hand. "Lowest Music 2" was a very early example of that. Then Merzbow mixed more tape loops with more harsh noise. "Age of 369" (Mlroku No Yo) and "Chant 2" are the finest early examples of that. The Japanese title of "Age of 369" was inspired by the Omoto Cult, founded by Onisabura Degughi. One of the earlier lap top style releases from Merzbow, more gentle than many of his releases. "Collapse 12 Floors" is a blistering, hypnotic float down a river of scrap metal. Three long tracks recorded in early 1999 of digital computer sound manipulation, with more emphasis on ambient and mysterious sounds then harsh noise.

This is the stereo version of a sound installation presented at Montreal's Studio Cormier in December 2004. The piece is based on the recording of 'silences', i.e. the recording of sound produced in spaces with no human presence. The sound of an 'empty' Studio Cormier was used as the material for the production of this piece. The sound takes were done during the quietest moments of the day, by means of microphones placed strategically throughout the Studio by the artist. The sounds gathered were then amplified and their frequencies accentuated to the extreme. The result of the experiment, as presented here, constitutes a genuine drone odyssey playing on fullness and emptiness, presence and absence, 'speak' and 'non-speak'. One long track full of subtle movement and enlivened with underlying currents. Limited to 500 copies in a textured sleeve with inserts. Mondes Elliptiques is a division of Angle.Rec, Canada.
