L'ANUS SOLAIRE - 'Manifestation I: Orifices' CD (AS)
"(I aim to destroy another myself) First step in body exploration. How to reach the blind level of self-destruction. This record was conceived as an erotic experience, exploding orifices - anus, wound, vagina, mouth - until a final, grotesque revelation. Musically speaking, each piece was built on dephased layers and archaic loops of processed string samples. This is minimal. This is liberation. This is fulfillment." Ultra dark and hypnotic ambient in a nice digipak. Ltd x 300 copies.
L'EFFET C'EST MOI - 'Tomber En Heros' CD (War Office Propaganda)
This interesting music entity rises from Recanati, Italy - the same hometown as Der Feuerkreiner, with whom it seems to share a passion for epic, Neoclassical and Martial compositions. L'Effet C'Est Moi ("the result is me") refers to the concept of Nietzche, identifying between the ruling class and the people. The idea of power and domination, in particular with the splendour of the Roman Empire at its zenith, and also the dark side of its might, that has survived through the ages and formed the totalitarian regimes of the 20th Century. A magnificent world of conquests, armies, battles, emperors and immortality, through excellent orchestral keyboards, epic piano themes and hammering martial percussions. Digipak.
The masterpiece by L’Orchestre Noir from 1999, now remastered, remixed and re-released by Italian label Precordings. L'Orchestre Noir is Tony Wakeford (Sol Invictus), along with Eric Rogers (Gae Bolg), Nathalie Van Keymeulen and Céline Marleix-Bardeau (amongst others), who contribute to this mainly instrumental project - a vehicle for Wakeford's interest in classical and soundtrack composition - with bass, cello, harp, trumpet and violin building a ritual and magical requiem for the fallen of WWI. L.E.A.K. / KOSMOPHON - 'Duochromatic' MCD (Fin De Siecle Media)
The music of L.E.A.K. is sometimes disturbing, sometimes beautiful, but always sincerely present. The soundscapes take you to one of those rare places where structure and chaos are not necessarily mutually exclusive. L.E.A.K. released the album “The Old Tea House” on Cold Meat Industry in 2001. Kosmophon is a side project of weird British cult soundtrack fetishist Caesar Romero. The material presented here is of a very different nature. The sleaze and spaghetti western hints are replaced by minimal and hypnotic analog electro noise experiments. Great split release between these two Swedish acts!

The range of styles contained on "Essence And Infinity" is immensely diverse, stretching from tenebrous experimental ambience to beautiful acoustic ballads, via lush classical orchestrations, darkly energetic post-rock and more. LADY MORPHIA - 'Recitals To Renewal' CD (Surgery)
Debut full length release from this English Neofolk act. Like a flag unfurling in the wind, this album shows strongly where their lineage comes from - the likes of Death In June, In the Nursery, Ostara and Dead Can Dance. Epic Neofolk / acoustic folk and melancholic militaristic beats draw us into an ancient world full of myths and legends. Choral ambiences re-affirm this connection with a more pagan heart and its closeness to nature.

LAGOWSKI - 'Temporary Distractions' CD (Ars Benevola Mater)
Andrew Lagowski (S.E.T.I., Legion) stands as one of the most highly-regarded experimental and cultured artists working in Industrial Music today. With 'Temporary Distractions', he takes his long experience in the world of electronic music and filters them through brilliant, harmonious and deeply involving Electro pathways with sound structures continuously fluttering inside electric spirals of minimal atmospheres, futuristic beats and avantgarde solutions. Ltd x 1035 copies in an outsized textured sleeve with artcard.
This retrospective embraces their first 10 years of existence. Nostalgic cinematic atmospheres and a mixture of neoclassical, minimal ambient and orchestral music make them one of the most sought after artists in the genre. Twelve remastered tracks with some selected from their deleted tapes releases, showing their evolution, with reminiscence of earlier Dead Can Dance releases, In The Nursery, or Les Joyaux De La Princesse. "1988-1997" comes in a beautiful digipak with an extensive informative booklet. Very nice piece.
LAND:FIRE - 'Physical : Mental : Psychological' CD (Tesco Organisation)
Land:Fire is the more clinical technical project of Henry Emich and Frank Merten, the men behind Herbst9. Land:Fire produce ritual technical ambient music, if this is possible. Sound layers of real brilliance which leave no room for a way back to archaic orchestration. This album is a documentation and a reflection of the historical instant of 5:29:45 a.m. on July 16. 1945 when the first atomic device, "Trinity", detonated. Comes in a nice double foldout DVD digipak with extensive booklet.
"Chimney" is the final result of a year of sporadic and inspired sessions of improvised music making by Marc Blackie (Sleeping Pictures) and Lloyd James (Naevus). The instrumentation used ranges across piano, percussion, guitar, synthesizer, accordion, electronic treatments and abused microphones to produce pieces whose styles could be variously described as: ambient, mock-power electronics, exotica... but, for the most part, the pieces here simply defy description. Includes guest vocals from Rose McDowall (Strawberry Switchblade, Coil, Sorrow) and John Murphy (KnifeLadder, Shining Vril, SPK, Death In June). Digipak.

LAST DOMINION LOST - 'The Tyranny Of Distance' CD (Tesco Organisation)
Project by two former members of SPK! Multi-talented man John Murphy (KnifeLadder / ex-SPK and live member of DEATH IN JUNE) made these recordings with Dominik Guerin in Australia in the early 90s. The music is more or less a follow up to classical SPK - music like "Leichenschrei", hard aggressive screams rhythms and noiseloops with partly an tribal touch, all produced with old analog equipment, if there is a music to be labelled "old school" than here it is! Definitely something that closes a gap!!
With his 8th solo album, French composer Laurent Pernice presents pure electronic music, providing fresh views for academic avant-garde, from the different sides of microtonal music, reductive minimalism and other methods of digital decomposition. Most of the sounds came about through sheer experimentation while trying to distort the use of an instrument. Thus, the first immobile music was based on a double bass using only its extreme high notes and on a zither played with bass drumsticks. The incongruity between the technique and the instrument produced chance music that, in a certain sense, created itself. Ltd x 500. Russian import.
LAURENT PERRIER - 'Downfall Disperse' 2 x CD (Sound On Probation)
Not to be confused with the champagne of the same name, this is the first solo album in a decade by this French artist (member of Zonk’t / Nox and label manager of Odd Size). ‘Downfall’ is a single track which develops ultra slowly, with very low, organic rumbling and hypnotic bass. The composition seems minimalistic but yet complex, absorbing and disintegrating, cold yet organic. ‘Disperse’ is also a singular track, but is more in the vein of concrete electro-acoustic music. Inspired by the compositions of Steve Reich, loops are copied, layered and moved around, so that the listener is under the permanent impression of growing turbulence and spatial buzzing.

LAW - 'Our Life Through Your Death' CD (Triumvirate)
LAW, the creative vehicle in which Mitchell Altum employs his experimental endeavours, has a niche fusion, in terms of technique, between Noise Ambient and Power Electronics - both of which usually sit on opposite sides of the fence, having it's own set of rules to play out. ‘Our Life…” has an open-ended but "governed" approach, whereby the already established rules of Noise Ambient and Power Electronics are reversed, meshed and re-constructed through the use of a regimentally structured, but eclectic mode of assembly.

LAW - 'Vindication And Contempt' CD (Triumvirate)
Mitchell Altum's brand of power electronics is focused and intense. What makes this project so distinctive is the coherence of the work. Layers upon layers of textures and kaleidoscopic drones overwhelm the listener; swarms of corrosive electronics wrap tighten lines of barbed wire around your battered and bruised psyche. This self-titled limited edition album is both an official debut by the project and a perfect introduction to their creative activity as it collects the most intriguing recordings from 2004-2005. "Aryana" was first published as a LP / CD release in 2002, now available again in a new package with a bonus track. On their debut CD, Leger Des Heils present German poetry exquisitely set to unique and fresh sounding Neofolk, with beautiful symphonic orchestration and subtle, yet still highly effective, martial percussion - all of which produce a stunningly bombastic ‘European’ sound. Such poetry of course is not the work of contemporary writers, but Leger Des Heils leave it to the attentive listeners to search in the past for the authors of the verses. Comparisons could be made with Autopsia, Leitmotiv or Upsland, but the music of Leger Des Heils has an eminently German feel to it. Presented in a 6-panel digifile, ltd x 750.

Debut album from this Swedish duo (brothers Daniel and Mikael Tjernberg). The music is neoclassical and leans towards Strauss but also Schumann, Chopin, Liszt, Wagner, Verdi, Brahms, Dvorák, Tjajkovskij and Mahler. But it is not only classical music in the romantic style. It’s also hints of modernism like the masters Stravinsky, Francis Poulenc and Arthur Honegger. Yet with their own style and touch of course. The biggest inspiration for the album is nature.
