Jack Dangers JACK DANGERS - 'Music For Planetarium' CD (Brainwashed Recordings)

"Music For Planetarium" is quite a departure in sound for Jack Dangers (Meat Beat Manifesto). "Music for Planetarium consists of eleven tracks commissioned for a planetarium in Budapest, and these eleven tracks most certainly feel like space. These songs are primarily drones, quiet drones, hushed drones, beautiful drones, and they remind me of the wonderful score to 2001. As such, Music for Planetarium is the perfect soundtrack for calm mornings and for quiet nights, and, if you so desire, for star-gazing. (Press Play Record). According to the notes, it was "recorded under a quilt at night in Marin County, CA." Hand-set and printed with lead type by Michael Babcock at Interrobang Letterpress.

Jahrtal JAHRTAL - 'Lichtbuch' CD (Ahnstern)

First album by the Austrian Psychedelic-Folk artist Jahrtal (Ewald Spiss from 80s Industrial act Tyrol. "Lichtbuch" is a unique collection of traditional folk songs from the Alps, musical versions of poems by Joseph von Eichendorff, traditionals from England and Scotland with German translation and even a traditional Tibetan prayer. A wide and balanced instrumentation gives the album a unique touch, with a sad / optimistic mood. Jahrtal uses acoustic and electric guitars, lute, banjo, dulcimer, gzitar, harpzither, psalter, flute, duduk, schalm, violin, organ and bird song. The main influences of Jahrtal are in the end-60s and early 70s with bands like Witthüser & Westrupp, Spirogyra and C.O.B., but a comparison to the most beautiful ballads of Current 93 is inevitable as well. This is an absolutely authentic Folk album with great heart and pure soul.

Janitor JANITOR - 'Qoumran 4-Ever' CD (Tesco Organisation)

This is Janitor's 3rd full-length release. The two masterminds Lina Baby Doll (aka Peter Andersson of Deutsch Nepal) and Benny Nilsen (Hazard) got together again to produce an outstanding mix of rhythms, industrial elektronic soundscapes and romantic tunes. With the distinct voice of Lina Baby Doll, this is a sentimental journey into their world of weirdness. After years of contemplation and research in the monastery caves of Qoumran, Nilsen and LBD found the hidden treasures they were looking for. The dry wind as a tapestry of sand in an elektronic desert, structures and ornaments hidden in the storm of Saudi. Another surprising release from the Swedish duo, presented in a digipak.

Janitor JANITOR - 'Receiving A Flower On A Mother's Day' CD (Tesco Organisation)

Janitor is a project of Lina Baby Doll (Deutsch Nepal) and the Grandmaster of cold audio - Benni Nilsen (Morthond/Hazard). They packed their equipment into an old house in the woods, far from every drop of alcohol and other civilisation, the results came fast - "Receiving a flower on Mother´s Day" is a mixture of dark sound-scapes, futuristic psychedelia and Industrial music. As always, these two always working consciously to develop the post-industrial style and sound, form and theme, this CD is a documentary of that. Nice digipak.

Jarl JARL - 'Breaking Point Syndrome' CD (Autarkeia)

The ninth album of Swedish industrial artst Erik Jarl, also known as one half of IRM. Just like his previous albums, this one radiates the remarkably icy, mercilessly depressing and languorous, as well as claustrophobic mood. To reach the effect, Erik simply generates unique industrial sounds. Each accord smacks of unexplainable anxiety, the feeling of a degenerate future, drug-induced reality, poisoning and exceptionally technocratic character. Jarl music can be qualified as psychedelic industrial / drone, while the album is an excellent example of the Scandinavian mastership in creating a persuasive and visionary sonic landscape. Mastered by Peter Andersson (Raison D'Etre). Digipak.

Jarl / 310808 JARL - 'Out Of Balance Part I – XVII' CD (Malignant Records)

£5 Meltdown Side project of Erik Jarl, member of the revered and immensely powerful heavy electronics outfit IRM (Cold Meat). JARL doesn’t come with the aggression of that project, but it does evoke similar feelings of instability and dementia via more atmospheric means. The disc consists of 17 tracks in total, each flowing into each other, with the early pieces having an almost cosmic heaviness (ala INADE) – pulsing and weighty, the sounds of winds sweeping across a barren land and distant orb. As it progresses, however, the seeds of profound sickness and decay are planted and begin to blossom; the tones and textures becoming more surreal and unsettling, the drones a bit more persistent and penetrating, abandoning listeners in a white walled room to confront their inner demons and degenerating psyche.

Jarl JARL - 'Wound Profile' CD (Autarkeia)

Reissue of the debut cassette album from Swedish electronics genius Jarl (aka Erik Jarl / IRM), now remastered for CD. The album consists of two record sessions: one of them (6 tracks) was recorded in 1999, while the other (1 track) was recorded 18 months later. Those closely following Jarl's music may recognise the early sound of Erik’s compositions in "Wound Profile", reminding of the first IRM records. Clear-cut, abnormal, psychedelic rhythmics, its distorted, massive repetitions, analogous loops of synthetic sound generate the emotions of anxiety, morbidity and degeneration. "Wound Profile" can be characterised by emotional straightforwardness and brutality. Ltd x 500 copies in a digipak.

Jason Crumer / 310808 JASON CRUMER - 'Hum Of An Imagined Environment' CD (Ignivomous)

£5 Meltdown Jason Crumer of North Carolina is known from the projects Now In Darkness World Stops Turning, Aluminum Noise and Amazing Grace. “Hum” was recorded during 2003/4 at a time of an unprecedented personal crisis. Jason says “It reflects that time well”. This is the supposed audio blueprint of the safe area created in an abused child's mind. Slow, mounting, composed junk noise. Power Electronics and Harsh Noise only for the toughest of listeners.

Jason Crumer JASON CRUMER - 'Ottoman Black' CD (Hospital Productions)

"Ottoman Black" is an album of midnight drones and true noise. Using powerfully clear electronics as a base for declarative noise bursts, Crumer manipulates the sounds with a resounding animosity. In the vein of Pedestrian Deposit and Air Conditioning, Crumer yields his mean streak to an array of silences over the course of the album. The theme here is personal relations; tracks like "Betrayal After Betrayal" have a conversational quality, both the screams and the muffles, the physicality. "Where Were You" is an actionist-influenced piece of torture. There's nothing not painful here, especially the quiet; the peaks are almost a relief. Ottoman Black is a stern and unforgiving universe. What a great title! Jazkamer / Jazzkammer is the joining of two Norwegian composers / musicians: John Hegre and Lasse Marhaug. "Balls The Size Of Texas, Liver The Size Of Brazil" follows in the landscape of "Panic" (2006); slow-moving passages of weeping guitar, overlapped with textures of turntable surface-noise and distant location recordings. 'Le Bruit Du Toit' is a rare meeting between two stalwarts of music - Seijiro Murayama, founding figure of numerous seminal avant-rock outfits during the 80s/90s such as Fushitsusha (on drums) and Absolut Null Punkt; and Jean-Luc Guionnet, a veteran and a revered artist in the musical constellation of sound art / composition and improvised music.   Jennifer Gentle / Kawabata Makoto JENNIFER GENTLE & KAWABATA MAKOTO - 'The Wrong Cage' CD (A Silent Place)

Re-release of "The Wrong Cage", the superfreaky, acid rock album that introduced Italian psych-pop mavericks Jennifer Gentle to the rest of the world, leading to their subsequent Sub Pop signing. Originally self-released in 2002, "The Wrong Cage" saw the young Italian quartet join forces with Kawabata Makoto (Acid Mothers Temple) for a live album that captured the band at it's most ferocious. Over 30 minutes of wonderful sonic carnage: two long, ultra-heavy guitar freakouts plus a eerily beautiful solo sarongi track played by Kawabata. All in all, a must for all fans of heavy, guitar-driven psychedelic avant-rock. Inlcudes a bonus track - an 18-minute long version of "Bring Them" from another night of that tour. Digipak.

Jesus Of Nazareth / 310808 JESUS OF NAZARETH - 'The Shame Of Being A Child' CD (Dotsmark)

£5 Meltdown Second release from this US (mostly) extreme Noise / Gabber unit. Beginning with punishing drill n' bass breaks and blastbeats with monstrous psychotic vocals and HARSH noise, "The Shame Of Being A Child" progresses into ghostly drones and white noise. Add in some Merzbow-meets-Boredoms insanity, mashed up grindcore debris, heavy machine beat action underneath swirling drones like ala Troum or Final. Overall, this album falls somewhere around the intersection of Discordance Axis, Muslimgauze, Japanese Noise, Nasenbluten and Winterkälte (!). Highly recommended to avant-grind and heavy noise fans. Also features a stunning, very creepy cover of "Willow's Song" from The Wicker Man! 20 untitled tracks with bonus live action (Washington DC, 2004). Japanese import.

John Duncan JOHN DUNCAN - 'Da Sich Die Machtgier...' CD (Die Stadt)

Asmus Tietchens sent processed recordings of himself reading excerpts from two texts by E. M. Cioran. Duncan worked on and manipulated them, creating three pieces. There is little of Tietchens remaining in these abstract creations. Speed-altered voice tracks are stacked, swirling electronic sounds in the background providing proof of deeper processing. "Freih zein hoem macht..." ranks among Duncan's harshest pieces to date, while "Aber..." is more "typical" Duncan: a drone derived from the sound source but from which the sound source has been obliterated, and yet makes its ghostly presence palpable.
