Jääportit JAAPORTIT - 'Voimasuo' CD (Epidemie Records)

The new album from the frosty Finnish project Jääportit. Seven atmospheric compositions blending together dreamy ethereal ambient, cold rhythmical Nordic electronics and melancholy post-rock. The album is thematically dedicated to the world under human kind transformation. Intense, strong and polymorphous album hardly to fit in conventional categories, because it´s kind of a musical labyrinth, definitely worth of exploring. Ltd x 600 copies in a 6-panel digipak.

Jahrtal JAHRTAL - 'Lichtbuch' CD (Ahnstern)

First album by the Austrian Psychedelic-Folk artist Jahrtal (Ewald Spiss from 80s Industrial act Tyrol. "Lichtbuch" is a unique collection of traditional folk songs from the Alps, musical versions of poems by Joseph von Eichendorff, traditionals from England and Scotland with German translation and even a traditional Tibetan prayer. A wide and balanced instrumentation gives the album a unique touch, with a sad / optimistic mood. Jahrtal uses acoustic and electric guitars, lute, banjo, dulcimer, gzitar, harpzither, psalter, flute, duduk, schalm, violin, organ and bird song. The main influences of Jahrtal are in the end-60s and early 70s with bands like Witthüser & Westrupp, Spirogyra and C.O.B., but a comparison to the most beautiful ballads of Current 93 is inevitable as well. This is an absolutely authentic Folk album with great heart and pure soul.

Jahrtal JAHRTAL - 'William Blake - Lieder Von Unschuld Und Widerfahren' CD (Ahnstern)

This is the second album by the Austrian Psychedelic-Folk artist Jahrtal. The man behind Jahrtal is Ewald Spiss, a artist from Tyrol, who started doing electro-acoustic music and sound-installations in the early 80s. Jahrtal today is authentic psychedelic Folk music, maybe only comparable with In Gowan Ring. The lyrics of the second album are poems of "Songs Of Innocence and Of Experience" by the English poet William Blake (1757-1827), translated by Ewald Spiss, as near as possible to the original Blake-texts.

Janitor JANITOR - 'Qoumran 4-Ever' CD (Tesco Organisation)

This is Janitor's 3rd full-length release. The two masterminds Lina Baby Doll (aka Peter Andersson of Deutsch Nepal) and BJ Nilsen (Hazard, Morthond) got together again to produce an outstanding mix of rhythms, industrial elektronic soundscapes and romantic tunes. With the distinct voice of Lina Baby Doll, this is a sentimental journey into their world of weirdness. After years of contemplation and research in the monastery caves of Qoumran, Nilsen and LBD found the hidden treasures they were looking for. The dry wind as a tapestry of sand in an elektronic desert, structures and ornaments hidden in the storm of Saudi. Another surprising release from the Swedish duo, presented in a digipak.

Janko Krul Albanskaj JANKO, KRUL' ALBANSKAJ - 'Ekezhhm, Gyuvel Pyuganlahkh Aektspyud?' CD (Some Place Else)

£5 Meltdown "Janko Krul Albanskaj is the work of the late Heikki Huhtanen a.k.a. Henry Zalkin. Utilizing a collage of disparate sound sources (samples galore: from third world ambience to classical diversions to radio noise... to noise itself, and more!), Janko Krul Albanskaj manipulated the sounds into brittle sonic texts of confusion and chaos... At about the 25-minute mark, classical music slips into focus, the turbulence held at bay. The remainder of the track balances noise and sporadic classical music, masterfully so" (Side-Line).

Jarl JARL - 'Turbulence Colour' 2 x CD (Autarkeia)

"Turbulence Colour" is the tenth album of talented Swedish composer Erik Jarl (IRM), containing two and a half hours of new, never released sound material over two CDs. In terms of music, Erik Jarl remains loyal to his original but dismal style. Very long, hypnotic tracks convey unbearable, depressing and morbid states of human psyche. "Turbulence Colour" is at the same time a journey into the grey matrix of anxiety where the listeners are masterfully taken through the sickly labyrinths of the author’s mind. The latest Erik Jarl’s release is the top class drone psycho-collage. Presented in a stunning debossed 6-panel digipak inserted into an embossed slipcase. Extremely high quality product! Ltd x 500.   Jarl JARL - 'Vertigo Emission' CD (Autarkeia)

"Vertigo Emission" is the twelfth album of Swedish genius Erik Jarl. The composer remains loyal to the style he propagates. Slow, very heavy and dismal sound waves grip the listeners and take them into the colourless, uncanny and morbid world. Like the previous ones, this album reminds a person who could earlier see the colours but became colour blind and in order to adapt to the new situation has to understand familiar yet irreversibly changed signs anew. The aesthetics of Erik Jarl's sonic decoration is like always very austere and merciless, however, it is marked by endless charm resulting from especially sensitive and subtle construction.   Jarl JARL - 'Wound Profile' CD (Autarkeia)

Reissue of the debut cassette album from Swedish electronics genius Jarl (aka Erik Jarl / IRM), now remastered for CD. The album consists of two record sessions: one of them (6 tracks) was recorded in 1999, while the other (1 track) was recorded 18 months later. Those closely following Jarl's music may recognise the early sound of Erik’s compositions in "Wound Profile", reminding of the first IRM records. Clear-cut, abnormal, psychedelic rhythmics, its distorted, massive repetitions, analogous loops of synthetic sound generate the emotions of anxiety, morbidity and degeneration. "Wound Profile" can be characterised by emotional straightforwardness and brutality. Ltd x 500 copies in a digipak.

Jason Crumer JASON CRUMER - 'Ottoman Black' CD (Hospital Productions)

"Ottoman Black" is an album of midnight drones and true noise. Using powerfully clear electronics as a base for declarative noise bursts, Crumer manipulates the sounds with a resounding animosity. In the vein of Pedestrian Deposit and Air Conditioning, Crumer yields his mean streak to an array of silences over the course of the album. The theme here is personal relations; tracks like "Betrayal After Betrayal" have a conversational quality, both the screams and the muffles, the physicality. "Where Were You" is an actionist-influenced piece of torture. There's nothing not painful here, especially the quiet; the peaks are almost a relief. Ottoman Black is a stern and unforgiving universe. "The title of this Jazzkammer (Lasse Marhaug / John Hegre) release is a very nice reference to their tactics: they create sound out of music. With the help of electronic equipment and a guitar, they blast their way through definitions of the term that shocks so many. This little disc leaves no questions about Jazzkammer's intentions: they want noise and they'll make it happen. In twenty minutes time they offer the whole spectrum of the genre as we know it: fierce rumbles, glitches, hisses and piercing tones. Originally self-released in 2002, "The Wrong Cage" saw the young Italian quartet join forces with Kawabata Makoto (Acid Mothers Temple) for a live album that captured the band at it's most ferocious.   Jennifer Gentle JENNIFER GENTLE - 'A New Astronomy' CD (A Silent Place)

Official re-issue of the ultra rare 2005 Sub Pop release (Ltd x 100 copies), now in a digipak. This album is dedicated to Giovanni Paneroni, amateur astronomer and misunderstood genius. "A new astronomy" is probably the most eccentric and out-there JG release to date. Recorded mostly in Marco Fasolo's bedroom on a 4-track cassette machine, the album was conceived as the imaginary soundtrack for some of their most bizarre, vivid dreams - obviously interspersed by the occasional nightmare. It's made by grainy, hallucinated musical scores trying to depict the beautiful, the scary, the annoying and the simply absurd inhabiting dreams. It runs the gamut from ghostly ambient drones to brain-damaged acoustic sketches, covering everything in between - furious guitar freak-outs and a homage to British 60's producer Joe Meek included.

Jennifer Gentle / VinylLP JENNIFER GENTLE - 'Live In The House Of God' LP (A Silent Place)

Recorded in an empty, deconsecrated church in summer 2003, this LP is another instalment in an on-going series of records documenting the weird life of Jennifer Gentle in the foggy plains of Northern Italy. Basically the sound of JG's mainman Marco Fasolo going wild with an old, battered electronic piano and a bunch of sound effects, "Live at the House of God" is a side-long improvisation sharing the same spirit of those 20-minutes keyboard freak-outs Sun Ra used to record in the late 60s. Alternatively spacey and noisy, the piece is a dark, often unnerving exploration in sound, shimmering all the way through with a distinct Krautrock / early Cluster vibe. The new owners of the church were horrified and outraged by the sheer loudness of the performance, but God liked it a lot. Single-sided white vinyl in a deluxe spot-varnished sleeve with insert. The concept of aurally conveying the horror of a gas chamber was realised through field recordings in an abandoned electrical power station in Brisbane in 1992. The only thing the listener can know for sure is that the music won't be in one place for long. 17 minutes of music dissected over 37 tracks.

J Coleclough / A Liles / VinylLP JONATHAN COLECLOUGH & ANDREW LILES - 'Torch Songs' 2 x LP (Die Stadt)

Coleclough and Liles met in October 2004 when they both performed at Intergration 3 in Preston, UK. Liles subsequently reworked the recording of Coleclough's solo performance from that evening. He went on to add, subtract, multiply and divide further live recordings supplied by Coleclough, and the eventual result was this double LP. 'Torch Songs' is packaged in a heavy gatefold sleeve featuring 'I Dreamt I was a River', a poem composed and painted by Geoff Sawers during a performance with Coleclough in Geneva in March 2005. The sound of Geoff's brush painting this lettering can be heard on side B of 'Torch Songs.' Ltd x 300 only!

Joy Of Life / Apoptose / VinylLP JOY OF LIFE / APOPTOSE - 'Warrior Creed' LP (Tesco Organisation)

In 1988 British post punk group Joy of Life released their song 'Warrior Creed'. 20 years later 'Warrior Creed' is back - seen though the eyes of Apoptose. The voice of Joy of Life leadsinger Gary Carey has matured and the rhythm section is reinforced by an entire band of drummers, the Fanfarenzug Leipzig. Now the music sounds even darker. This LP celebrates the return of that classic song. It features two new interpretations by Apoptose, both sung by Gary Carey, alongside the original Joy of Life version which has been unavailable for more than a decade. The vinyl-only release is limited to 600 copies and is packed in a deluxe gatefold sleeve with metalic bronze embossing.
