Fjernlys is Knut Enderlein (INADE). This album contains 10 epic tracks to reach far beyond trepidation and tranquility, it's not only welcoming with open arms but captivating slowly the listener and remaining breathless till the last sound. "Beyond The Undulant Quiescence" unifies the opposites when the frostiness of the synthesizer sound and the warmth of the melodies are melting one another. The spectrum ranges from melancholic piano compositions to complex and superior song structures with an open commitment to slow motion. In every track there is a cryptic sparkling which is always shimmering but almost stays in the background. It's the multi-layered arrangement in each track which is constantly changing the colours and feature a cinematic coarseness in an audible way. 6-panel digisleeve.
Flatlands (with 2 tracks) are seriously heavy in a stripped-down Isis style, with monolithic, catchy riffs crashing into each other and plenty of screaming. Sunshine Republic (with 1 long track) are on a more experimental tip, reminiscent of House Of Low Culture, though there are elements of doom, post-rock and noise in the mix too. The LP is limited to 330 copies and is presented on heavy grey vinyl and comes with acetate inserts. Offensive and difficult in equal measure.

The second release by Flim (Enrico Wuttke) for Plinkity Plonk. "Flim's music is full of deep sadness. The liner notes explain that the music was composed as an attempt to cope with the loss of a child, trying to find a balance between hope and frustration. To create his music Flim makes use of piano, organ and thoughtful computer processing. Often just single notes are struck on the piano; they keep on resonating and then slowly fade before the next note is played... Other tracks are more drone-related, with acoustic sounds stretched out into warm, hovering fields... a point where pain and beauty converge in fragile and intimate music... An acoustic album from viking folk project Folkodia, which comprises as many as 14 musicians from Germany, Austria, France, Monaco, Switzerland and beyond. The album includes acoustic versions of tracks from previous albums, alongside some completely new ones. The male counterparts have the manly tones that are more than appropriate to translate the Viking story-telling. Instead of a bass, a cello was the chosen instrument. FOLKSTORM - 'Archive Series 5 - The Culturecide Campaigns' CD (Old Europa Cafe)
The Culturecide Campaigns was released in 2000, only available for one month through MP3.com, during which time only 39 copies were sold. After 10 years, these recordings have now finally been restored, redesigned and remastered and features two bonus tracks. This album was recorded back to back with "Victory or death" and carries the same menacing feeling, but with a bit more structure and emphasis on pounding rhythmic industrial noise. If you want rough old-school industrial this is what you need! The campaign continues.
"Folkmusik" is a classic Folkstorm album with its roots firmly placed in the old-school industrial style, but there is a suffocating quality to it that is new. While a lot of the tracks are rhythmic, harsh and ugly compositions as you would expect, there are also a few ones which are monotonous monuments of fear, isolation, despair and tension. Digipak.

FRAKMUNDT - 'Urbarglieder' CD (Percht)
Amazing and unique debut CD of the Swiss Ur-Folk project Fräkmündt, born out of the idea to revive old sagas and nearly forgotten songs and atmospheres of the alpine regions of Switzerland. Performed in alemannic central-Swiss dialect, the songs on "Urbärglieder" simulate a journey through landscapes of the quaint regions of Switzerland. They let you chase through stormwinds with the wild hunt at mount Pilatus or stroll under the paintings of the danse macabre over the Spreuerbridge in Lucerne. One can meet the devil in the Schöllenen gorge and follow the alpine herdsmen during their sad walk down to the valleys in autumn. The album is alternated by two sound-accentuated sagas and two atmospheric pieces, letting one share the horrors of the ghost-house in Stans and the mythical ambiance inside the Mondmilchloch cave. On "Urbärglieder" acoustic guitars, accordion, violin, flutes and various percussion instruments generate melancholic melodies full of nostalgia, but also rousing hymns which invite to dance. "Uufwärts e d’Föuse" (Upward to the rocks) is a conceptual album which takes the listener on an imposing musical journey to untouched Alpine areas. As on "Urbärglieder" all tracks are presented in the typical Fräkmündt Central-Swiss alemannic dialect. After an "Alp-Blessing" ("Aupsääge"), the journey upwards is visualised using acoustic guitars, accordion, drums, hurdy-gurdy melodies and flute. The nighttime track “Höttehock” is a swinging and wild traditional dancing track with a catchy accordion melody and nice acoustic guitars. The last track "Stouz ond frey" (proud and free) is a devotional and powerful song with profound hurdy-gurdy, rhythmic guitar melodies and catchy accordion tunes. The MCD ends with a Dark Alpine Ambient track called "Bärgtröim" (Mountain Dreams) which smoothly leads the listener back to the valley. Francisco López (Spain) and Richard Francis (New Zealand) have created "in de blaauwe hand" upon invitation from Extrapool for a brief working residency in Nijmegen, to develop a collaboration piece for the Brombron CD series. Working with very small seed source sound samples that were exchanged between them, two intermingling compositional paths unfolded in two parallel small studios. In a short (but very intense) period of time a whole world of very delicate and subtle materials arose. The hour-long track merges without mix a dreamy geography of subtleties and complex organicities that is more the result of aesthetic affinities than pre-structured plan. In that sense, this is a composition born from the sound themselves, following the paths indicated by them. Presented in a card-slip-sleeve.

FRANS DE WAARD - 'Vijf Profielen' CD (Alluvial Recordings)
In November 2005, Frans de Waard (Beequeen) spent a week recording and composing on location in the small Dutch town of Vlissingen. A Marine shipyard is located in the centre of the town, but has closed due to regeneration of the area. As part of an exhibition '[Mijn] Domein', Frans De Waard was asked to reflect on this transition. He recorded the remaining activities in the building, where so called 'profiles' are made for use in shipbuilding. In this musical piece things move from hectic and busy (in the first profile) to emptiness (in the fifth profile), although it's one piece. Using mainly recordings made on site of elevators, metal cutting and room ambience, this piece is a strong work of field recordings with minor electronic processing.

Frederic Nogray diverts his rock crystal crucibles from their usual function in the silicon industry to generate tactile music, a music that succeeds as much in making the listener's intellect wander as it does in moving the material itself. Highly conceptual project that combines features of remix, recycling and plagiarism - the re-interpretation of classic album by Asmus Tietchens “Daseinsverfehlung”. All that can be heard on this CD, as always in case of Frans de Waard framework, is made from music that already existed: every sound, word in titles and even the cover picture - all is just processing and manipulation techniques. What Freiband proposes here is 2 sides of radically reworked gamelan. Side A seems to progress through an acid bath and take the magnifying glass to enhance the digital decays, evoking various stages of textural corrosion. Through these aggressive and irreverent treatments, the naturally metallic harmonics are by twist and turns abruptly dismantled and fractured into crunchy, dense and fuzzy fireworks. On side B, through some arcane wiring, some machines end up spitting out shifting binary patterns with a somewhat alienating feeling.
