ECHRAN - 'Echran' CD (Small Voices / Ebria Records)
Echran is the duo of Davide Del Col (Ornament) and Fabio Volpi (Otolab). Echran's music is a form of post-industrial ambient mixed with analogical echoes of the 70s and the 80s, all combined with cold digital sequences and an obsessive metronomic minimalism. The whole work sounds intense and compact, closing to a sort of song composition, a good use of melodies mixed to a great amount of noise. The French vocal themes are a sort of a self-confession, bright and crazy: scars of reality in an ocean full of nasty and unhealthy fanaticism. Ltd x 500 copies.

ECHRAN - 'In Offret' CD (A Silent Place)
Echran is the project of Davide Del Col (Molnija Aura), teaming up with Fabio Volpi, who has worked over the last few years with the Milanese audio / video collective Otolab. Starting in 2003, the project joins two different kinds of experiences: one is gloomy ambient oriented, the other is more noise-based with a psychedelic attitude. Echran's dark electronic soundscapes are not that easy to pigeonhole: there's a constant metronome-like pulse which could be compared to Pan Sonic or some minimal techno, but at the same time isn't really ambient or droning.
Norway, 1994. Lasse Marhaug has yet to start working under his own name. An obscure short lived project just before that, titled Egoproblem, releases one 20 minute tape and performs one live gig. This CD collects those materials, presenting the most straight forward industrial / power electronics works of Lasse Marhaug. 40 minutes of simple but effective works full of hard tones and metal banging. Tape/Exit/Kill from original DAT tape, live recording with decayed and crude industrial-noise attack! Includes liner notes by the artists. Limited to just 200 copies!!

ELECTRIC URANUS / X-NAVI:ET - 'Voices Of The Cosmos' Enhanced CD (Beast Of Prey / Eter Records)
This Dark Ambient album contains original extraterrestrial sounds captured from space by radio-telescopes (pulsars), sounds from space missions and space itself. Each artist created 3 tracks that form the 40 minutes album. Instrumental tracks played and recorded in rhythm with tones of "space sounds", are made manually with use of electronic and acoustic instruments, making this project very unique. "Voices Of The Cosmos" is electro-acoustic dark ambient. We watch the sky and the stars, heavenly bodies, other galaxies. All that fascinates us is beautiful and colorful. But those are not environments kind to us. They are terrifying, cold or extremely hot places. And this how this album is. It can take you out there but it can scare you too. Eliwagar's second release "Fjellfolk Saga Fra Forntiden" ("the legend of the mountain-folk from the past time") tells about a legend written by Runahild herself years ago, but songs are also full of metaphors. The music is more rustic pagan folk, taking the listener away into a wooden cabin at the heart of nature, while a snow storm is raging outside, or while a sweet sun raises at the dawn of a spring. Eliwagar's music is meant to give a positive feeling, reminding of a good feast between family and folk or a calm moment near a fire on an enjoyable evening. EMME YA - 'Atavistic Dreams & Phallic Totems' CD (Cold Spring CSR127CD)
40 minutes of dense astral emanations and magickal paradigms transmitted through the ritual mantras generated by Emme Ya. Emme Ya's "Atavistic Dreams & Phallic Totems" is based on the mysterious African Dogon tribe and their secret oral tradition. In the 1930s two anthropologists gained their trust enough to be told these remarkable secrets. The Dogon seemed to possess advanced astronomical knowledge beyond their means, without any instruments. They revealed that the star Sirius was orbited by the 'smallest and heaviest of all stars' and drew its elliptical orbit, which spans 50 years. This white dwarf (Sirius B) is so invisible that the first image was only obtained by scientists in 1970. But the Dogon also told of a third star in the system named Emme Ya (now Sirius C). This was only discovered in 1995 and only with the use of advanced infrared imaging. The Dogon say that their information was given to their ancestors through contact with beings from the star system of Sirius, calling these beings Nommos or 'the monitors of the universe'.
EMME YA - 'Beyond The Secret Flame (The Aiwass Manifesto)' CD (The Mercurius Collective)
Ritual ambient soundscapes combined with some tribal influences and completed by spoken words from Aleister Crowley's The Book of the Law. This album is the enlightenment path... a magickal portal veiled through the gnostic dissolution of our most in deep essence... a voyage to inner transcendence beyond nothingness. Based on the three chapters of Liber Al Vel Legis sub figura CCXX, in which is revealed through diverse audial soundcapes and atmospheres, the revelations of Aiwass in Cairo, Egypt. When dictating the Book of the Law the three chapters converge in its own enigmatic message dressed through codified phrases and symbolic structures. The whole album is a dedication not to the Scribe (Crowley) but to the vast entity known as Aiwass-shaitan and the totality of experience beyond the complex current 93 and The Thelemic Trinity. 51 minutes of music over 3 lengthy tracks. ERIC LUNDE - 'A World Of Hurt In The Kingdom Of God' CD (HCB Records)
The new admonishment from Eric Lunde (Boy Dirt Car). "A World Of Hurt In The Kingdom Of God" derives its name from a series of engravings Lunde did in 2004, the original title being "A World of Hurt in the Kingdom of Gosh". It is primarily a product of the concerns Lunde has (and expressed in his book "Prison Sex", from which the majority of the text on this album is taken from) with the latent cruelty of humans in regards to their alleged relationship with a fabricated supernatural being and how is it that religious people have to prove nothing, but the atheist ones have to prove everything. So what's there to be found in Lundes' dragnet this time regarding these issues? A dish of sober mischief noise served cold, bubonic industrial and irate sound poetry created in the detrimental corners of the mind where the proof reproduces the intimate bonds of brutality that men create between themselves.

ERNST KAREL - 'Heard Laboratories' CD (and/OAR)
Heard Laboratories is a sonic ethnography of scientific research environments at Harvard University, made using Schoeps cardioid mics in ORTF stereo configuration and a Sound Devices audio recorder. The sounds of equipment, devices and activities draw attention to the physical processes underlying scientific research, the work underway which provides a ground for our highly technological society. In the name of human progress, enormous resources are devoted to and consumed by such activities, which are both hidden and taken for granted. Heard Laboratories brings this background to the fore. Heard Laboratories is a largely abstract soundscape, consisting of edited sequences of unprocessed location recordings. The liner notes list edit points, along with descriptions of the research each laboratory is engaged in, so that the listener may follow along and know what kind of laboratory they are hearing at any given moment. ESTHER VENROOY & HELEEN VAN HAEGENBORGH - 'Mock Interiors' CD (Entr'Acte)
Electronic composer Esther Venrooy and pianist Heleen Van Haegenborgh’s collaboration explores the synergy of acoustic piano with electronics and digital sound processing. Their compositions aim to draw the listener into the inner workings of the piano. Employing a battery of microphones, resonating elements and tiny inaudible mechanical sounds are captured, manipulated and magnified through electronic means, resulting in fragile textures where the boundaries between electronic and acoustic sound become blurred. Ltd x 300 copies in the usual Entr'Acte heat-sealed sleeve.
Singular work from this Dutch-born Belgian composer who isolates elements from The Conet Project’s macabre collection of secret shortwave "number stations" and assembles them in massively brooding late night dronescapes, repeat tone clusters and flashes of phantom electricity. Something supremely disconcerting about the mechanised voices and occult number calls and put in this context the whole piece takes on a bizarre / surreal almost Nurse With Wound air. "This third album sees Ethereal continuing the evolutionary trajectory they initiated with "In the Forest of Arden", which led them here towards an even heavier sound. Yet, while we hear rumbling frequencies and a rhythmical approach that are commonly associated with Death Metal, this duo retain their characteristically Doomy and melancholic sound, offering plenty of sorrowful harmonic melody and keyboard-driven magic. I am reminded at times of Decomposed, although Ethereal Woods is musically richer and more classically-influenced. The nature, mysticism and sylvan fantasy themes present in their previous two albums take here an explicitly Elizabethan turn. One is inevitably reminded of the sensibilities of a Sir Philip Sidney, although Blackmetalised and in much simplified form"(AK-47).

EYELESS IN GAZA - 'Summer Salt & Subway Sun' CD (Ambivalent Scale)
Originally, the intention was to put together a double album, centering around an escalated excitement with the idea of cities as new, blank texts – contrasted with the kind of sense of alienation and loss evoked in such works as J.G. Ballard’s Concrete Island. "Summer Salt & Subway Sun" works as a kind of survival or synthesis of these ideas. It neatly encapsulates two key aspects of the music Eyeless in Gaza (Martyn Bates & Peter Becker) are presently creating - a balance of atmospheric / acoustic material and sprawling, rhythmic / semi-improvised spidery electric pieces. This has resulted in a blend of song based material juxtaposed with a distinctive brand of kaleidoscopic, “cityscaping” filmic music. Eyeless In Gaza continue to display a characteristic fierce independence of style and attitude. Ltd x 1000 copies.
