Two tracks from early cassette releases. Side A is an alternative version of "Terrain" by Jackman and Sanderson, originally released on the "0 Degrees North" cassette (Aeroplane 1982). With Jackman overdubbing low guttural growls on a steel strung cello and Sanderson programming coffee-percolation on a drum machine, "Terrain" is a lo-fi production that finds its companions in the work of Throbbing Gristle, Hunting Lodge, and the Broken Flag camp of noise. Side B is a solo piece by Jackman, originally released on the 'Adrift' cassette (Snatch Tapes 1981). It is similarly lo-fi with a hypnotic loop of a monochromatic guitar topped with clanging metals and samples from orchestral swells, which have been drained of all color and replaced with a swampy din. Those readers familiar with the world of experimental music will know the name David Jackman, primarily from his work under the name Organum. As Organum, Jackman has created some of the finest, most haunting drone recordings of the last decade. This CD is a reissue of a 1996 cassette-only release that appeared in an edition of only 61 copies. Perhaps slightly similar to the sampling work of John Wall, here Jackman has taken found recordings of orchestras, and overlaid them to create two eerie collections of string ensemble collage. Dialing In is the ecstatic roaring psychedelic drone project of Seattle based sound artist Reita Piecuch. Released on CD on UK act Dual's label CEE, this full length album comprises six tracks over 48 minutes and is an accomplished release of pure unfettered energy bursting to the seams. Forever bringing the sounds clearer to the front and then demolishing into pure nothing. Crackling interference and bubbling rhythms compound from a foundation built of syncopated static and whispers leaving the spinning clicks and tones to gyre and tumble beneath. A gem for collectors of minimal electronics and drone.
As always, all the sounds on this release are derived from the guitar and this second full CD release shows UK act Dual exploring rhythms and percussion coaxed from the guitar while applying various treatments and manipulation. Although some traditional methods of playing the guitar have been employed on the recordings of this album the finished mixes show no real sign of a plucked guitar string. Drones and textures are interwoven with clicks, pops and buzz from the electronics with subtle bass rhythm to create a soundbed of drifting melancholic ambience.
Part 4 in the Sol Invictus archive series. "Marseilles" features Tony Wakeford (guitar, vocals) and Matt Howden of Sieben (violin, vocals) in an extraordinary live performance, recorded in Marseille in 2000. Ltd x 1000 copies in a slim card cover.

While stumbling around a dark and dusty used bookstore in Manhattan’s Lower East Side, Carlos Boll stumbled across a book of poetry by John Clare. Not being familiar with his work prior to this encounter he was taken aback by the beauty of Clare’s words. While maintaining a rather personal and reflective nature, the poems invoke a walk though the forest on a wonderful spring day. Being struck by such inspiration Carlos knew at once he should set some of his favourite pieces to music. Enhanced by the dulcid tones of vocalist Isabella Piombo, Carlos purposefully kept the music in the realm of traditional British folk, in homage to Clare’s homeland, although modern influences certainly crept in during the recording sessions. DVT - 'DVT' CD (Cranial Fracture Recordings)
Starting with thick, richly saturated rhythms and bellicose samples, then moving to aggressive "in your face" power electronics from this Australian act. A straight up powerful confrontation with hard vocals; no compromise. Samples burst and crushing noises collide as declarations echo in the distance... then comes the death winds, the obscure voices and the high pitched scraping, testing the eardrums (and speakers)!
This is a collection of Norwegian improv noise collective DEL's live performances between 1998 and 2000. The seven man unit seems to use all manner of junk, and drums, guitars etc and created vaguely rhythmic experiments, that often combine to create sounds that can be gentle and excellent drifting ambience, or even gel to create SKULLFLOWER / RAMLEH workouts. Remixes from Lasse Marhaug, John Hegre (both members of Jazkamer / Jazzkammer) and Jon Birger Wormdahl (KA).
