In 2005 Massimo Magrini was invited to provide a soundtrack for the M3M art exhibition in Pisa, Italy. The exhibition was based around images of the seaside and river estuary of Pisana area with CMASA airplane factory built there in it's centre. The marvelous seaside scenery mixed with vintage industrial locations, created an unexpected but amazing, nostalgic mood. To sculpture a soundtrack of this scenery Magrini also added treated piano, snippets of acoustic guitars, water sounds and metal samples. This may sound unusual for a BAD SECTOR release but all those new elements are perfectly blended into massive and ambient soundwaves, making CMASA probably the most emotional album of Massimo Magrini to date. The first four pieces on the CD were recorded early 1998 for a 12" vinyl single on which these tracks were supposed to be cut at different speeds (16, 33, 45 and 78 RPM). Due to its complexity of pressing this record was never realised. The fifth and sixth track were originally intended to form a 10" album of a most unlikely meeting by Beequeen and MSBR. Based upon a mutual sound exchange, both Beequeen and MSBR worked independently on their pieces. The label that intended to release this, stopped while both bands were still recording. BBNU provided some of their live improvisations, MCIAA then chose those close to their hearts and laced them with sounds of guitars, space toys & ray guns, wordless singing and alientronics. This CD was recorded in September 2010 at the Babí Léto ("Indian Summer") festival in Prague. Two rising stars of the Czech alternative scene! New Zealander Campbell Kneale, of prolific one-man bliss drone project Birchville Cat Motel, returns to his metallic alter-ego Black Boned Angel. Both projects chase a similar idea from different ends of the spectrum. This work is perhaps Kneale's most obvious combination of the extreme minimalism of his ambient tendencies and the extreme maximalism of his forays into the center of the subterranean metal guitar riff. The album first lulls one into a meditative state of relative calm before plummeting into the chasm created by the vibrations of a single, snarling riff so heavy it could rip a hole in the heavens. Consisting of a sole one-hour track, "The Endless Coming Into Life" sits comfortably alongside the darker end of Kneale's ever-growing catalogue of work dedicated to finding the light (or dark) source of the universal drone. A 40 year retrospective of the work of Ralph Gean, compiled by countercultural maven Boyd Rice (NON). Since the late 1950s Gean has written and recorded his own bizarre variety of Country, off-beat, and Rockabilly songs, which typically feature lyrics about murder, TV shows, weird news items and other "unusual" themes. In the mid '90s Gean was "discovered" by noted countercultural figures such as Boyd Rice (NON), Eric Allen (Apples In Stereo) and Jello Biafra (Dead Kennedys), all of whom would become involved in his career in one way or another; this lead to a comeback for Gean. Disc one of this two-disc set is a collection of the best and weirdest of Ralph Gean's assorted "outsider" tracks, and includes some bonus live material recorded in the late 1990s. Formerly known as Big Road Breaker. "More sub-space transmissions from out of the void, other worldly murmurs and ambiences that shimmer like phantoms then fade into oblivion. Clicks, static and rumbles are allused as devices to convey abstractions of space and time. Layer upon layer of sound, treated to bring out new textures; the musical splitting of an atom" (Bizarre). Released in an edition of 500 copies, though only 300 were ever made available due to a shortage in the printed sleeves. Extremely limited split between BRB>Voicecoil (Big Road Breaker) and Spoils And Relics. BRB's piece was constructed from factory production line source recordings and preconceived situation recordings set up and captured in a Victorian warehouse cellar on Newcastle's quayside which the artists rents. "A filmic piece and an excellent composition from this band which always reminds me of Small Cruel Party... Spoils And Relics' piece seems to be a collage of sound. Banging on metal outdoors, obscured electronics, voice like mumbling, maybe field recordings... a somewhat more crude construction in the domain of musique concrete. Its all a bit loosely organized, a sort of naive charm around it. Its one of those things that leaves me curiously wondering what else it is that they do". (Vital Weekly). Recorded live during a short Russian tour in September 2009, these recordings are unique since the lineup was made of Russian artists and only Roger himself was a part of the common European live incarnation of BDN. The persons behind Anthesteria and LamiaVox joined him in Moscow, while the guys from Bardoseneticube and 414 were together with him on stage in St.Petersburg. The basic parts of the tracks were sent to them all in advance, so they prepared their own vision of this material, thus it was a pure conceived and well-organized collaboration. Both shows were recorded on multi-channel devices, then carefully mixed and mastered, so the final quality is close to the studio sound without losing any of the raw energy of live performance. The result is a very fresh and unexpected look on the well-known BDN compositions such as 'Innerwar', 'Pay Day' and 'Testing' which should be interesting not only for devoted followers of the project but for the wider audience of power electronics / death industrial fans. BRION GYSIN - 'Live In London 1982' CD (Sub Rosa)
"Live In London 1982" is the Beat Generation revamped. Recorded in Brixton four years before the death of Beat legend, this live set features Gysin reciting poems from the late '50s and early '60s, accompanied by a makeshift no wave backing band consisting of Slits bassist Tessa Pollitt (also on cello), Rip Rig Panic, drummer Steve Noble, Penguin Cafe Orchestra percussionist Gile and guitarist Ramuntcho Matta. Most of the texts were written upon meeting Burroughs, at the time of the invention of the cut-up. The influence that Brion Gysin has had on contemporary music may never be taken fully into account. The music is resolutely avant rock: dissonant, provocative, and largely improvised. Gysin called this session "White Funk". Live in London 1982 is an interesting document, which will appeal to connoisseurs of William S. Burroughs and Brion Gysin's legacy.

The second in the series of super-limited 10”s from cincinnati’s basement noise terrorist C. Spencer Yeh. Where "Amelia" showed Yeh’s sensitive side, "WSBC/SSS" goes straight for the jugular with pure distorted punk noise, all rampant high end and a growling analogue core. However what sets Yeh away from so many of his contemporaries is that beneath all the hellish distortion and crushing doom is a sense of harmony and pastoral perfection. It’s not often in noise music that you get this kind of intense-yet-measured collision, but Yeh manages to pull it off magnificently resulting in a 10” which crosses genre boundaries in the most punk-rock fashion imaginable.
