IN DEATH'S THROES - 'Infernal Deities Transcending' CD (Live Bait)
(1999) Debut album from this US act, released on the band's own labell. One half of IDT also being the man behind Murderous Vision, one can imagine what to expect here. A difficult CD with dark noisy atmospheres, enriched by deep, serious vocals. Some tracks have an uneasy feeling - drones, noises and repetition have a kind of intoxicating effect on the listener. Reminds me of Megaptera in places, whilst drenched in the saturating noise of other American artists such as Baal or Gruntsplatter. Heavy going!

(2007) Reissue of the massive Death Industrial album from this ARCHON SATANI side-project, originally issued by Staalplaat in 1993. INANNA were at the forefront of a new force in Doom Ambience way back in the early '90s. This is stunningly re-mastered and re-packaged album brings alive one of the classic scene albums - a milestone in ultra grim and crushing death sonics, that paved the way for many Drone and Ritual Industrial bands around today. Mixed by J Havukainen (IN SLAUGHTER NATIVES).
PETER REHBERG - 'Kapotte Muziek By Peter Rehberg' MCD (Korm Plastics)
The fourteenth installment in this series is a mini CD by Peter Rehberg (Pita / KTL). For his rework, Rehberg used the recordings of the very first Kapotte Muziek workshop (and concert) held in september 1997, as part of Staalplaat's 'Masterclass' event at the Korzo Theatre, in Den Haag. Moving away from digital computer noise for this work, Rehberg crafted a beautifully soft but outspoken piece of music. Low rumbles at micro levels and moments of silence are interspersed with isolated throbs and shimmering mid-frequency drones. A total playing time of 17:30.
A collaborative disc from French drone pioneers Ultra Milkmaids and Pure (aka Peter Votava), a Vienna-based artist with previous releases on Mego, Staalplaat etc. Together they have created a mix of stunningly dark flowing sonics, glitchy with elements of light textures and tones sprinkled liberally throughout. Very effective results and a great disc of modern electronics.

RICHARD LAINHART - 'White Night' CD (Ex Ovo)
Back in 1974 (a year before Brian Eno’s first landmark in Ambient-music), a young musician from New York wrote down a fragment of beauty’s hidden story with the minimal vocabulary of sine waves on the young black skin of a Moog synthesizer. This CD features Lainhart’s masterpiece in its original 29-minute version. "...composed and recorded in the fall of 1974 at the State University of New York, Albany in the Coordinated Electronic Music Studio. CEMS was created by my composition teacher Joel Chadabe with design and custom fabrication by Robert Moog and was, at the time, the largest integrated Moog modular synthesizer studio in the world" [Lainhart]. The title came about as a blizzard passed by Lainhart's window whilst finishing the piece: "the snow swirling in the light against the blackness; a moving painting continually drawn."
The first LP by Dutch act Staplerfahrer and also the first LP released by Heilskabaal Records. The A side is the soundtrack to "Treetops for the New Millenium (a film by Mahatma LeRoi)". A 15 minute long Stars of the Lid-esque track - slowly building with lots of hidden tension. On the flipside you'll find "Lullaby (for my Dad)", also a slowly arising, captivating piece, but more staccato. Finally there is "Lover's Breath" - a very open and clear collage-piece of field recordings. Shrinkwrapped, with beautiful artwork.

Originally released on Musica Maxima Magnetica in 1999, this album is now re-issued in a digipak by US label Projekt. Vidna Obmana (also recording as Fear Falls Burning) and Italian sound sculptor Alio Die unite their vision and realised this introspective work of 68 minutes. At times droning and abstract, sometimes ritualistic and ethnic. "Echo Passage clearly lives up to the reputations of Obmana and Musso while offering both ample opportunity to work outside of their ordinary parameters" (Outburn).
