One of several side-projects to emerge from the Wolvserpent camp, Aelter is the solo effort of Wolvserpent guitarist Blake Green. Aelter explores a similar realm of dark majestic sound to Wolvserpent, with massive downtuned guitar roar and bleak minor key melodies being the common thread between the two projects. But where Wolvserpent blends this chugging Melvins-esque heaviness and haunting slowcore arpeggios with violins, pounding drums, and a propensity for extended hypno-dirges, Aelter dispenses with the drums almost completely and goes for a more cinematic approach using layered keyboards and gorgeous harmonised voices, fused to a malevolent black heaviness. "Before better known as Panicsville, but now moving into the realms of serious music (this new release got some sponsoring from arts councils) under his own name. The octa-thing deals with the number eight, and the three pieces here on this DVD (no images) can be played on a 7.1 installation, if you have such a thing. I only have a 2.0 installation, called 'stereo', but it sounds great still. Ortmann lists a list of instruments - mainly old analogue synthesizers and where he did his field recordings. Just as on the Schimpfluch disc, I'd say this is the small alley where noise is really interesting. Not because it's super loud, although there are points when things are pretty loud, but because of the fine balance between electronic, noisy sounds and the crackling of highly amplified field recordings which are all put together into an interesting collage of sound. Not like Schimpfluch of short and shorter sounds, but through longer pieces which work quite well. Great stuff, both of these releases and if noise is like this, I'd sign up again." (Vital Weekly).

'Mountain' is an artistic collaboration between musicians Anni Hogan, Robert Strachan and Itchy Ear, film maker Bob Wass and mountaineer Cathy O'Dowd. Hogan and Itchy Ear originally worked on a series of piano pieces inspired by Rene Daumal's 'Mount Analogue' and the superior wisdom of mountains, using O'Dowds Himalayan conquests for particular authentic inspiration. Robert and Anni used these pieces and the Himalayan peaks as a template for painting a soundwave soundscape around the piano compositions. Cathy has supplied all the photographs for the album sleeve, beautifully edited by Abby Helasdottir, and Cathy has performed a fascinating and revealing monologue over the piece 'Deathzone'. The 'Mountain' film has been created by Bob Wass from Cathy's original film footage of her Everest expeditions. The film and soundtrack are an experimental 'journey' to explore sonically and visually the nature of 'journey and mountains'.

Numancia was a small castro (Spanish for Celtiberian village). The inhabitants of Numancia fought against the Roman Empire for more than 20 years. In 133B.C. Rome sent their best general Escipion to create a siege and destroy Numancia so they could control the entire peninsula. However, when the Romans entered the village, the survivors decided to kill their own children, set their own belongings on fire and end their own lives. If the Empire controlled Celtiberia they could not control their people. Musically Numancia is a invigorating trip from the magnificence of the village to the final decision of choose to die instead of being conquered. ÀRNICA is a Barcelona based project. The artist's interests are deep rooted in the ancient Iberian culture and traditions. Described by herself as "Female Esoterica", "Sub Rosa" opens a vast space filled with different sounds coming from very far away, as nebulous melodies, whispers, voices and choirs, little clicks and cracks, with soft percussive structures appearing on Side B. The two pieces named "Rosa Alba" and "Rosa Rubea" (white & red rose) have a strong metaphorical alchemistic background, meaning the end point of all alchemistic transmutations. Artificial Memory Trace is the long standing musical project of Czech artist Slavek Kwi, currently based Ireland. Since 2007 Slavek has assisted Francisco López in his Mamori workshops in the Amazonian forest, which is where some of the source material present on this LP originates. 2 sides of 'decomposed and recomposed' landscapes and details, mostly centred around the Boto, also known as Amazon River Dolphin or Pink Dolphin. Just as the Boto is rumoured to undergo human-like transformations, most of this record is about transformation: sounds are isolated, cut, scaled up or down, modified and finally reassembled in a delicate and quite peaceful collage. ASHTRAY NAVIGATIONS - 'Caeduceus & Black Sal' LP (Memoirs Of An Aesthete)
The latest in Ashtray Navigations' the ongoing vinylization of their out-of-print catalogue. This amped-up mindbender was originally released in 2007. One side features a thick dinner of swirling tambouras, electric sitars and synths blasting out of tiny battery amp speakers wrapped in buzzing tinfoil (a description of the methodology here and not just the sound). One side of clubfooted samba rhythms and twin guitar sustain overload which offers a key as to why Ashtray Navigations' set at All Tomorrow's Parties a few years ago was roundly condemned as "Santana" in certain circles. Ashtray at its heaviest and most monolithic. Ltd x 250 copies on bubblegum pink vinyl in a PVC sleeve.

The 4th Asmorod CD is a fascinating, introspective, deep ambient work that distinguishes itself from the mass of uniform dark ambient releases. Niiko (now the only member of Asmorod) used the word Hysope (French word for "Hyssop") as a symbol of spiritual purification. In ancient times, Hyssop was used for the cleansing of lepers (Leprosy may represent sin... but lepers were not necessarily sinful) and used for cleaning sacred places. It is alluded to in the Scriptures: 'Purge me with Hyssop, and I shall be clean' (Purify me from my sins, and i will be clean; wash me, and i will be whiter than snow. Psalms 51:7). ASMUS TIETCHENS & RICHARD CHARTIER - 'Fabrication 2' 2 x CD (Auf Abwegen)
"Fabrication 2" is the sequel to "Fabrication", the first collaboration between Richard Chartier and Asmus Tietchens released in 2007 (Die Stadt). Whereas for the first collaboration the idea developed from the project around reinterpretations of Chartier's "Postfabricated", this time the efforts were directly focused on the reinterpretation of specific basic sound material. This material can be found on the first disc of "Prefabrication 2", which was constructed by Richard Chartier alone in Montreal and Washington, DC. "Fabrication 2" is the reworking of this sonic basis by Asmus Tietchens. Whereas the first CD has traces of subtle dematerialised rhythmic structures, the second disc is a study in minimalism and concentrated sound manipulation. ASMUS TIETCHENS - 'Abfleischung' CD (Die Stadt)
12th part in the ongoing re-release series of all early Tietchens albums between 1980-1991. "Abfleischung" is based on material recorded by Tietchens as early as 1967-1970. These recyclings made in 1989 became the 20 short tracks on this album, which was originally released in edition of 500 copies on Hamster Records in 1989. The CD includes two previously unreleased tracks and comes in a jewel case with full colour artwork and poster booklet also featuring the original front and back cover. Limited edition of 600 copies.
This album is a collaboration between leading Moscow independent multi-instrumentalist, composer, and producer Andrei Suchilin and Krasnoyarsk-based electronic sound-designer Sergei Turko. These two talents draw together the diverse elements of their musical training to conjure up landscapes of modern electro-acoustic and electronic. Warm electronics and textures are woven throughout. The recording is independently produced and published by Suchilin's own Objective Music record label. Russian import.
