ABNOCTO - 'Simon Magus' CD (Waerloga)
This is mainly occult-inspired instrumental music - sacral with hints of great dark temple halls, demons, mystical rites and churches. Instruments like piano, farfisa organ, dark ritualistic drums, harps and various string instruments were used and this sound will appeal to followers of Arcana and the medieval / neo-symphonic genres. Abnocto is Simon Kölle (Musterion, Za Frûmi) and Simon Heath (Atrium Carceri, Za Frûmi). Recorded 60 meters below the centre of Stockholm in a long forgotten chamber among the tunnels.

ACID MOTHERS TEMPLE & THE COSMIC INFERNO - 'Ominous From The Cosmic Inferno' CD (Essence Music)
What this powerful Japanese quartet delivers on their 6th album, "Ominous From The Cosmic Inferno", is a nothing short of amazing. A super wild, punishingly dark slab of experimental psychedelic hell where fuzz blasted, ultra riffing and hypnotic speed guru guitar chaos (courtesy of Kawabata Makoto) meet early Amon Düül-influenced druggy, acoustic, mantric folk experimentalisms and eastern drones from below. The scent of sulphur fills the air and brings on the Japanese psychedelic inferno! Presented in a deluxe, sturdy gatefold mini-LP package featuring cosmic artwork by Jason Killinger and including a striking pop-up! Ltd x 1000. Brazilian import.
ACID MOTHERS TEMPLE & THE MELTING PARAISO U.F.O. - '41st Century Splendid Man Returns' CD (Essence Music)
Finally make available on CD (original released as a picture disc on Tumult) is one of the most captivatingly beautiful recordings from The Melting Paraiso U.F.O. line-up! Motorik krautrock rhythms work side by side with interstellar signals, ghostly female voices and analogue synths. Bursts of damaged psych brilliance and free guitars open and seal the album, healing the aural wounds for / from the mammoth droney, mysterious and transcendental ambient experience of the title track, built with the aid of a non traditional array of instruments, like sarangi, sitar, zurna and Tibetan trumpet. Definitely not of this world. Guest stars Tatsuya Yoshida (Ruins). This extended CD edition features two extra tracks and new artwork and comes in a deluxe, miniature LP gatefold packaging! Ltd x 1000.

AD OMBRA - 'Rites Of Genesis (Equinox Tremendum)' CD (War Office Propaganda / Rage In Eden)

AKAMATSU / INAMI / ISHIGAMI - 'Split' CD (Electr-Ohm)
An incredible performance of 16 different tracks by three Japanese experimental laptop artists, each one working a piece by themselves. Akamatsu has intriguing, minimalist tableaus, each working off of a pattern of eventual change but from small places. The sounds of each piece are completely different. The Ishigami pieces are similar but even more stripped-down, with greater changes in volume, at times descending into mechanical concrete, like a robot playing with a mechanical cricket. The Inami pieces are thick compared to the previous; drones that begin a slow-motion whirlwind of sound, faraway basso utterances, the slow throbbing of an engine wall, receding, receding into a blank, misty vacuum of clouds. Imaginative and varied.

AKITSA / PRURIENT - 'Split' CD (Hospital Productions)
Canadian artist Akitsa creates atmospheric yet shredded minimal and monolithic guitar and drum mantras with inhumane, spiritual vocal abandon. Complete with bombed out morbid organ and Noise intro, wrought with anxious anticipation of the primitive natural vortex that follows. Prurient presents a massively decayed, fetid live sound collage titled ‘Fossil’. Patient, miserable, synth wails and howls under churning field recordings, tapes, electronic distortion and the inevitable vocal fallout. Roughly 30 mins from each band creating a long and drizzly haze for isolated depressives.

ALETHES - 'Aletheia' CD (Glass Throat Recordings)
Arising from the verdant soils of Cascadia, Alethes bring us their epic debut album "Aletheia". Originally conceived as ritual, these are five timeless compositions comprised of mournful and warm acoustic guitars, shamanistic percussion, classical strings and deeply ancient vocal harmonies, with guest percussionist Markus Wolff (Waldteufel, Blood Axis). Digging deep into the Earth and reaching ever higher to the Heavens in the eternal quest for illumination. Alethes emerge from tradition and disappear into Nature's shadows, yearning for a time past, or yet to be, where the ancient fires burn bright and the cycles of life are awarded their proper respect. ALEXEI BORISOV & KK NULL - 'Xenoglossia' CD (Insofar Vapor Bulk)
This is a wise pairing between the two completely versatile and experienced electronic manipulators. There are a host of totally warped sounds like I’ve never heard from either KK Null (Zeni Geva) or Alexei Borsov. Sticky electronic pitter-patter leads way to tinkling sine tones and cryptic foreign terrain. When they integrate some guy mumbling, it truly sends me back to the seminal sound of lost souls that became Throbbing Gristle. But this is not all-dark cerebral jargon, there is a lighter, almost frustrated techno lurking just below the surface. Slim cardboard sleeve with artwork by KK Null.

ALFREDO COSTA MONTEIRO - 'Epicycle - Metallic Brown Cover Edition' CD (Etude Records)
Portuguese minimal-electro-acoustic artist Alfredo Costa Monteiro surprises with "Épicycle". The steady-state, relatively drone-ish character of this 38-minute piece of work is much more fluid than his earlier work and is also based on sound recordings of his voice, although processed virtually beyond recognition. "Épicycle" fluctuates from roars to barely perceptible pings, often with an abruptness that initially startles but on second listen seems entirely natural, like a cloud suddenly blotting out sunlight. It’s a fascinating, chillingly beautiful journey; you never feel quite safe but always have the sense you’re in capable, acutely sensitive hands guided by a deep musical imagination. Comes in an outsized sleeve with metallic brown cover.

A Belgian group produced by Tony Wakeford (Sol Invictus). Strong female vocals in French, a folksy acoustic medieval style, haunting ethereal melodies, weaving strings, and a busy acoustic guitar all characterise Algiz's debut (and to date only) release. There’s a lovely Eastern European feel to the album that suggests twirling gypsy dancers, dark eyes and tambourines, cavorting around a campfire on full moon nights. Includes a cover of Death in June's "Fall Apart."
